ARCHIVED New Member... In So Much Pain...
Nancym replied to krumbling's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You might want to look into a paleo sort of diet. Very simple food like veggies, fruit, meats. None of this processed nonsense that always seems to get us into trouble. I've found a number of other sensitivities on my own by creating a "basic diet" (meat, veggies, a little fruit) then adding in suspected foods. I've found that nuts and seeds, dairy... -
ARCHIVED Ever Shared A Fridge With A Seitan Eater?
Nancym replied to Mango04's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I like to pronounce it "satan". -
I read a review, and went to, "The better half". Restaurant is excellent, small, nice atmosphere, but pricey! Chef comes out and talks to you about gluten free, seems very knowledgeable.

ARCHIVED Which Comes First - The Celiac Or The Diabetes?
Nancym replied to AliB's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Which type of diabetes? Type 1 is autoimmune and celiac disease is connected to almost every autoimmune disease. Type 2 is probably due to diet, eating too many refined carbohydrates which increases insulin production, then your muscles start to ignore the insulin because there is too much of it too much of the time (insulin resistance) and your blood sugar... -
I'm reading a very good book written by a pediatric neurosurgeon, Dr. McCleary, called "The Brain Trust Program". He writes about how he has helped people recover brain function after traumatic illnesses or injury and recommends a variety of supplements and activities for restoring brain function. His major focus is age related memory loss but he deals...

You might want to get checked for diabetes. It can affect eye sight and the bad taste could be ketosis.

It is linked to thyroid problems. You might want to look into that.

ARCHIVED Diabetic ?
Nancym replied to dollamasgetceliac?'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you're concerned about your blood sugar (and you probably should be, about 1/3 of people are running blood sugars that go too high) then you can always discover this yourself. Here are instructions on doing your own glucose tolerance test: Open Original Shared Link Here is a web site with really good information: Open Original Shared Link You don... -
ARCHIVED Vitamin Deficiency Neuropathy
Nancym replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You might as well get started on supplements. I think your damage can probably be repaired, I've heard of other folks doing it. -
ARCHIVED Struggling To Think Of Work Lunches!
Nancym replied to Aussie Peg's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Assuming you have refrigeration and microwavation you could take any sort of left overs. I also used to take big salads to work and just put the dressing in a separate container. If you don't cook, sounds like you should learn! I recommend watching cooking shows on TV. I learned tons from them. -
ARCHIVED Seems Like A Lot Of People Are Having Trouble With Sleep Lately...
Nancym replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I heard an MIT student had this problem so she invented a clock that rings loudly and rolls off your nightstand so you have to get out of bed and search for it. Isn't that clever? Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Ahh! I Dont Want To Starve!
Nancym replied to LuvMoosic4life's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't eat processed foods at all and I don't starve somehow. The vast majority of the foods I eat never contained gluten so I don't need to find substitutes. Anyway, I'm not gloating, just trying to explain that there's lots of things to eat that are very healthy and naturally gluten free, if you want to consider changing your diet a little. -
ARCHIVED Going Gluten-free Made Things Worse?
Nancym replied to thumperhm's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Although there seems to be some controversy over it, the latest reports I've read said oats are not safe for celiacs. Even ones that are certified to be gluten free have a protein in them that many celiacs respond to. It's something I think you're best removing from your diet. Add it in later after you've gotten accustomed to things. -
ARCHIVED Ulcerative Colitis Vs. Gluten Sensitivity
Nancym replied to paulstefano's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
From Dr. Fine's site: I think his own daughter had microscopic colitis which cleared up on a gluten-free/CF diet. -
ARCHIVED Reintroducing Dairy
Nancym replied to scottyfeelsick's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Dairy gives me constipation, it used to counterbalance the dairrhea that wheat gave me, most of the time anyway. Anyway, nowadays my symptoms from dairy are excess mucus production, stuffy nose especially at night and weirdly enough, muscle spasms especially in my neck and shoulder area. I seem to be ok with butter though. -
ARCHIVED Grilled Apple Slices
Nancym replied to bakingbarb's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You can always buy replacement grill parts for your grill too. Like the part you actually grill on. -
ARCHIVED Going Gluten-free Made Things Worse?
Nancym replied to thumperhm's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'd encourage you to give it more time. Our bodies react strangely when we take away things that they're addicted to or even things that are harmful. But if it doesn't go away consider that you might have other foods issues too. For instance, I've finally figured out that nuts and seeds give me intestinal issues. And it seems like taking away other things... -
ARCHIVED For Those That Avoid Legumes

I think you're okay with Cassia type of cinnamon: It comes from the bark, just like Cinnamon does. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Self-diagnosed And Afraid To Tell Family Doctor
Nancym replied to ellen123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Why do you feel you have to share this info with your doctor? First off, they'll discount your self-diagnosis and they almost certainly won't diagnose you based on that. They'd probably want to take blood tests and do endoscopy, which will be negative most likely since you're gluten free. Just save yourself the hassle and anger and don't involve your doctor... -
I'd say 1 or 3 is doing it. Sesame does evil, evil things to me. I went crazy on sesame oil for awhile and had the WORST gas and terrible diarrhea. Later I found out they use it as a laxative in Chinese medicine. Oops!

ARCHIVED Is Gluten Intolance The Same As Celiac Disease
Nancym replied to lacy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you want to self-diagnose then a dietary trial or testing through Enterolab should be fine. I'm not a fanatic about "gold standard" Celiac testing because we've run into a lot of folks on these forums that have tested negative but had amazing health turn-arounds from removing gluten from their diet. So, IMHO Celiac disease is just one form of gluten... -
ARCHIVED New To This And Hungry All Of The Time!
Nancym replied to ShayFL's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I find protein and fat are the two best appetite suppressants available. If you're meat adverse I'd recommend things like macadamia nuts and avocados. Yum! -
ARCHIVED Too Scared To Get Tested - Hemophobia

Have you ever been to a neurologist? It sounds like you might have narcolepsy. -
ARCHIVED Can You Be "intolerant" To Dairy Even If You Don't Have Any Gi Symptoms?
Nancym replied to CuriousOne's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Some people I've talked to have reported depression or psychological things as side-effects of dairy. For me it is sinus and muscle cramping mostly, secondarily constipation. So yeah, give it up for a couple of weeks and see what happens. Hopefully the withdrawal symptoms won't be too awful. I'm sure I don't have to tell you though... that much... -
I had some gum issues and lots of tooth decay. But it's all gone away since I've adopted a Paleo diet. My hygienist tells me my mouth is now in amazing condition. Frankly, I think it was the grains, sugars and sticky sweet things like raisins and dried fruits that were causing the problems. I hope you find your solution!
