  1. There's a wonderful web site called bloodsugar101.com where you can learn a lot about how to control your blood sugar. I believe she also has a book out too. Anyway, I think she was voted diabetes educator of the year last year. Check it out! This isn't just for diabetics but for anyone having issues with blood sugar, including hypoglycemia.
  2. Osteoporosis is really common with celiacs, even in children. You definitely should push to get this diagnosed.
  3. Nicely put, "brutality of the medical system". It can be very brutal. You gotta look out for yourself and your children. Trust your instincts here.
  4. Sure, I can understand not wanting to cook everyday, but the cool thing is, you don't have to! I cook some major things about twice a week, freeze some, live off left overs the rest of the week. I used bagged salad greens to throw together really fast meals in a bowl (add chicken, olives, cheese if you eat it, nuts, whatever you want). That's one meal...
  5. I'm sure these procedures are probably good money makers for GI's and hospitals. I can think of lots of reasons not to have them done, the biggest of which is their unreliability and of course there's always a risk of death, bowel puncturing, infection and so on.
  6. I have to imagine that guys have a much harder time dealing with this because they're not used to thinking about or preparing meals (many guys anyway). For some reason there seems to be a stigma that being concerned with food is unmanly. Anyway, I think if you can ditch that and learn to cook you'll have a MUCH easier time dealing. Plus, trust me on...
  7. My body doesn't really like grains either. I just avoid them.
  8. I found it best not to try to substitute around cheese, just give it up. The cheese substitutes are loaded with things I'd rather not put into my body.
  9. I learned early on that trying to talk to people about gluten in fast food restaurants is like trying to talk to a 3 year old about particle physics.

ARCHIVED Should I See A Doctor?

I guess it depends on your symptoms, you didn't mention what they are. But probably no, your doctor won't really be able to do much to help you. They might have anti-diarrhea or anti-spasmodics but you can get those OTC too. Some people use various remedies and claim they help. Maybe they'll chime in.
  11. Untreated diabetes can also cause gastroperesis as diabetes damages nerves too.
  12. You know, if those doctors used a computer they could diagnose their patients a lot faster... sheesh, what a bunch of Luddites.
  13. Do you eat dairy products? I find dairy makes me quite constipated, especially cheese. I exclude it for a few days and everything gets back to normal.

ARCHIVED Group Letter to Dr. Fine

There are web sites out there where you can create petitions, you might look into utilizing one.
  15. High triglycerides are often connected with blood sugar being high. If you're eating a lot of starchy or sweet things, especially with HFCS in it, that could account for your triglycerides being high. Maybe your intestines weren't processing your food right before and that kept your triglycerides lowish. The very best treatment for high triglycerides...
  16. I knew exactly what I was getting when I ordered my Enterolab test. If you spend a few minutes reading the FAQ and the other materials he provides he says exactly what it is and what it isn't. If anyone thinks he diagnoses celiac disease then they've been lazy or careless and haven't read up on what he offers.
  17. Many Type 2 diabetics are using low carb diets to control the disease, some are able to get off meds entirely. There's a book called Dr. Bernstein's diabetes solution a lot use. Another forum I recommend is Open Original Shared Link. Type 1 diabetics also use the diet to reduce the amount of insulin they have to use. If you're a celiac it isn't any...
  18. Not eating fat is a great way to give yourself gall stones. The bile gets sludgey in the gall bladder and eventually crystallizes. You're likely to be low on B vitamins of all sorts, vitamin K2 as well as protein. Hope you get it worked out!
  19. I had a period where dairy products would give me muscle spasms. Before I went gluten free I had pain in nearly every joint but now I only have pain where there is osteoarthritis.
  20. Old eggs peel vastly easier than fresh ones. So whenever possible make sure those eggs have been around for awhile before you HB them. My technique for cooking them is kind of cool. My friend raves about my eggs and loves the way I do them. Perhaps they don't get overcooked, I dunno why they're so good this way. I put the eggs right out of the fridge...
  21. Enterolab makes no bones that they don't diagnose celiac disease. He does have a lot to say about gluten sensitivity though. I'm miffed that he hasn't ever published but I don't doubt he's got a good way to detect if gluten is causing an autoimmune reaction.
  22. He's published other stuff, so it isn't like he doesn't know how to do it. Open Original Shared Link
  23. I read somewhere that 30% of people who go gluten free will have remission from thyroid disease. Pretty nice if it is true! I know that thyroid diseases often do go into remission anyway, but it sounded like being gluten-free made that number higher.
  24. I like using caller-id and just not answering if I don't recognize the source of the call.
  25. The Hashi's can certainly do that to you. Talk to your doctor and get some thyroid meds, or get an increase. The "normal" range is way too wide, tell your doctor you want to be closer to the bottom end of the TSH range (closer to 1). Other things that can do this are sleep apnea and there is narcolepsy.
