  1. You should always get your test results in hard copy so you know exactly what they are. There have been some recent studies showing a TSH > 1.0 is connected with a significant increase in heart disease. Meanwhile the "normal" range goes up to 5 in some practices. Open Original Shared Link
  2. I was diagnosed with AS a couple years back. I have had good luck controlling my symptoms with diet. It might sounds strange but one doctor found evidence that a certain type of pathogen that is found in the intestines secretes something that is very similar to a protein made by the gene HLA B27, which is common (but not always) in AS patients. Anyway...
  3. Good for you, getting your test results. It's a shame doctors don't report these to us, so always best to look for ourselves. Liver issues can be caused by lots of things, alcoholism, celiac disease, Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (probably caused by eating too much sugar and starches), some drugs, some autoimmune disorders.
  4. If you've got metabolic syndrome you might find avoiding all grains and starches and sugars are really helpful to controlling it. I know a lot of insulin resistant people, and diabetics, all controlling their disease using various low carb diets. Personally, I'm sold that The Paleo diet is very healthy. It has helped me immensely with my autoimmune...
  5. How about coconut flour?
  6. IMHO substituting just makes quitting it harder. I instead opted to go for a more Asian style of diet that doesn't include dairy at all. Good food too!
  7. The "normal" type of doritos does contain gluten, it's just some of the other flavors that don't.
  8. We don't know what every gene in the human genome does. Also, there are cases of celiac disease where the patient didn't have either of the two known genes for celiac disease. So doctors are being stupid if they think what little is known about genes explains celiacs completely. I know there's another disease out there they just found 7 new genes associated...
  9. It's still got gluten in it. There's no evidence that it is safe for celiacs.
  10. I personally have given up hope that he'll publish. He's been saying it for a few years now and still hasn't.
  11. I learned recently that people with hypothyroid have more fibroids and/or endometriosis. So you might want to have your thyroid checked. I suspect I have endo, I know I have fibroids. My thyroid condition has been undertreated for probably 20 years.
  12. That could be too high of a dose for you. For me, any time I have an adjustment to my thyroid meds I get a little "hyper" feeling for a couple of weeks, but then it goes away. So the other option is to let it ride for a couple of weeks and see how you feel. Those symptoms are tough to bear though. Even though my T3 tends to be low, I didn't like taking...
  13. Acne is very common in dairy intolerance. Loren Cordain wrote a book about it. I get muscle spasms, light acne out breaks, and nasty post-nasal drip.
  14. Any bread containing wheat, rye, barley is going to have too much gluten for someone sensitive to it.
  15. Yeah, the ANA test is one they use to check for Lupus. I think there are followup tests if it is positive.
  16. Have you considered looking into Dr. Bernstein's diet? You probably need to concentrate on getting your calories from fat instead of carbs. I know a lot of diabetics either using Atkins or Bernstein's diet to control their diabetes. Some manage to get off drugs altogether. 17. Anything is a problem with getting health insurance, if you are just getting your own. You could have had a hang-nail 10 years ago and they'd deny you. Seriously, it really sucks.
  18. Blood tests are negative sometimes when there isn't total villious atrophy. Also, blood tests don't tell you anything about gluten sensitivity without villious atrophy. For that, you'd need a test like Enterolab.com does.
  19. Are you getting proper treatment for the hypothyroid? That sure can make you feel miserable if you don't get it treated properly. Here's a good site to read up on that: Open Original Shared Link But yeah, it takes an average of 11 years to get a celiac diagnosis. If you want to get on with it, just try out the diet and forget about all the doctors...
  20. I recently stumbled on a recipe that I love. Basically you stir fry whatever you want, marinate your meat in this: 1/4 Cup Wheat free Soy or Tamari Sauce 1/4 Cup of water 1/4 Cup of sweetener (such as honey, if you use it) 2 cloves of garlic 1-2 Tbl of Cornstarch mixed with water to thicken marinade later. At the end I pour in the left over marinade...
  21. I'd do what I'm already doing, eat my proteins, nuts, veggies, fruits and skip all that starchy, sugary, gluten containing stuff.
  22. Do you drink carrot juice? When I was a kid my Mom gave us carrot juice every day and our palms turned kind of orangish.
  23. I know lots of people with improved neurological symptoms. Some swear that taking B12 (methy sort, not cyano) helped them recover faster.
  24. If you want some support with your Paleo way of eating I'd recommend this message forum: Open Original Shared Link Lots of recipes and people that would probably have many ideas for you. Eating too much meat can make you anorexic, I mean we're talking like more than 30% of your daily calories (assuming your calorie intake is normal). There's only so...
  25. How about nuts and nut butters stuffed in celery or apples?
