ARCHIVED I Miss My Thai Food!
Nancym replied to imsohungry's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I am a nut for Thai food and found some resources that might help you. First off, I found not just a good Asian market but one that had lots of Thai ingredients, they can be hard to find. But if you can't find one you could order online from various places, I have used importfoods.com and like them. They have recipes there too. Another good resource... -
ARCHIVED Diagnosis
Nancym replied to parkerrmmc's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
A few things pop into my head. One is that your child is getting gluten from cross-contamination if the rest of your family is still eating gluten. Another is that your child might have other sensitivities. Consider dairy and nuts and possibly eggs too. A good elimination diet might help you figure that out. Gluten is also passed in breast milk. ... -
ARCHIVED Should You Thank The Catholic Church?
Nancym replied to Alexolua's topic in Publications & Publicity
I am a former Open Original Shared Link. That church was totally unreasonable in it's wheat demands on the congregation. -
I'm pretty certain the cholesterol hypothesis of heart disease is dying a slow painful death. I do think cholesterol has a role to play, but the tests they currently use to detect it are not the ones they should be using. They should be using the VAP or NMR tests and looking for small pattern LDL particles. Anyway, I found this doctor's blog to be...

ARCHIVED It's Not celiac disease, So What Could It Be?
Nancym replied to threedee's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Vit. E gives me gluten symptoms something fierce from some sources. I suspect it has wheat germ oil in it. -
ARCHIVED Grain Free Diet?
Nancym replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm not a believer in candida but I think the diet is very healthy. You don't need grains to survive. Mankind rarely ate grains during much of it's history until the agricultural revolution about 10,000 years ago. In some places grains have only been eaten a few thousand years... and in some places, only a few dozen years. The Inuit for instance. And... -
ARCHIVED Having Trouble Accepting The Diagnosis Of Celiac And Allergies To Food
Nancym replied to applecore's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Applecore, would it help you to follow a plan of sorts? I follow the Paleo Diet, which is pretty flexible in many ways. Basically it tries to return one's eating to how we ate for 100's of thousands of years, before the recent introduction of grains and dairy products. You'll find lots of meal plans and recipes. I've modified it for myself to include... -
ARCHIVED Possible Symptoms Of Gluten
Nancym replied to little d's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Actually, I found dairy products do this to me. I get terrible muscle spasms if I start using dairy products. -
ARCHIVED What Sweets Do You Eat When You Can't Eat Any Of The Things You Love?
Nancym replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I make myself treats out of unsweetened no-milk chocolate using eggs, sweetener, chocolate, butter. Or little microwave cakes with similar ingredients but use unsweetened cocoa powder instead. Yum yum! The first one is like this (I never measure) About 1 oz of chocolate 1 Tbl of butter or other fat Put it in a large coffee must, Melt in the microwave... -
ARCHIVED I Think My Children Are Trying To Poison Me!
Nancym replied to ruthla's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You could always send them outside to eat the gluten. Sort of like smokers. 2nd hand gluten kills! -
I found taking Vit D3 supplements (oil based cholecaliferol) helped me sleep. I take about 2000 iu a day. Another woman I know of found D3 helped her too.

Whoops! Sorry about that. I hope your friend is able to find something that helps! This disease can be SO painful and debilitating.

ARCHIVED Anybody Ever Have This Symptom?
Nancym replied to Rpm999's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Definitely! Hyperthyroid and you eat a lot, hypothyroid and you don't have much appetite but still gain weight on what little you eat. Hypothyroid makes you sleep a lot, hyperthyroid gives you insomnia. You might also have peripheral neuropathy which can be caused by diabetes or a B12/Folate deficiency. Many people who are celiac get this because... -
ARCHIVED Guys - Peripheral Symptoms? (don't Read If Easily Shocked)
Nancym replied to gfp's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Oftentimes ED is the first sign of vascular disorders. Get checked for diabetes or blood sugar issues. That'd be an A1C test, which tests your average blood sugar. You might also want to read this guy's blog. He discusses heart disease and has non-medical ways to treat it, including using l-arginine, which produces Nitrous oxide, which is something that... -
Smelly gas was always one of my symptoms.

I was diagnosed with AS but my symptoms disappeared when I started following a paleo diet and taking vitamin d3 supplements. The forum Open Original Shared Link is good for AS patients. Lots of people have relief when following a low-starch, or no-starch diet.

I had a lot of luck improving my health (and autoimmune diseases) using The Paleo Diet. It is something you might want to look into.

ARCHIVED Elimination Diet Gone Wrong?
Nancym replied to misdiagnosed6yrs's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If it were me, I'd eat nothing but meat and veggies. They seem to be least responsible for food intolerances. Then I'd slowly add in other things. -
ARCHIVED Trader Joe's Products
Nancym replied to ruthla's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think it's something we all have to figure out for ourselves. I use them but occasionally I'll find one that just doesn't agree with me and then stop using it. -
ARCHIVED Blood In Toilet
Nancym replied to sansglutengrl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Open Original Shared Link about anal fissures. What an odd thing to blog about, but it is very funny. -
ARCHIVED Blood Sugar Crash While Sleeping?
Nancym replied to sansglutengrl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Are you eating a lot of starches and sugars? If so, you could be on the road for diabetes. Cut way back on them and concentrate on eating proteins and fats, meat, non-starchy veggies, eggs, whole fruits (not juices) etc and your blood sugar will thank you. What happens is when you eat a big load of starches and sugars your body releases a lot of insulin... -
ARCHIVED Symptoms Improved After Going On Atkins?
Nancym replied to TDMB's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I actually got worse when going on a low carb diet because I was buying the low carb products like bread that are filled with wheat gluten. Gluten is protein and thus low carb! If you guys need any support on your diet there's a great low carb message forum at Open Original Shared Link BTW: Lots of us over there figured out we are gluten intolerant... -
ARCHIVED Sweating, Blushing And Increased Appetite
Nancym replied to Jesse E's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
A big insulin rush can also increase adrenaline, which will also cause those symptoms. Does this happen when you load up on starches and sugars? -
ARCHIVED Finally...maybe It's A Good Thing ?
Nancym replied to jamamar's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you intend to have further testing done like an endoscopy it is important that you keep eating the gluten. In large quantities too. -
I love green, but this isn't working for me. A lighter background with a darker font would look much better.
