Nancym replied to abigail's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
In San Diego the Gluten Free dining group went to that restaurant once. -
ARCHIVED For Women..re: Blood Test Ca125
Nancym replied to debmidge's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
It's not all that reliable I have heard. Search on it on the Internet and read up. -
ARCHIVED Please Please Please Please Help
Nancym replied to Chris E's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, a couple of ways. First pain can be referred, so it might be coming from another source but because of how nerves are laid out it can show up there. Another thought is osteoperosis, if you're not absorbing calcium and vitamin D from food. Lastly, celiac disease can injure the brain and nerves (B12 deficiency and brain lesions). And finally, you... -
ARCHIVED Study About Biopsies - False Negatives Possible
Nancym replied to zarfkitty's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Just because your villi haven't been ripped out of your gut yet doesn't mean they're not going to be eventually! Light-celiac... what a joke. -
You need to be tested for autoimmune diseases, they should run CRP ESR the tests for lupus and whatever else they can think, you should be checked for thyroid antibodies too, it is possible to have both Graves disease and Hashimotos at the same time, that could be causing some of your symtpoms. Lots of autoimmune diseases attack the eyes. And you should...

Pet food with wheat? Bird food containing wheat? It could be something completely unrelated. Lots of autoimmune diseases have brain fog and fatigue as symptoms. Perhaps you should talk to your doctor?

ARCHIVED Enterolab Results
Nancym replied to Woolygimp's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Are you going dairy free too? Looks like you've got a pretty strong positive on dairy. -
My doctor only gave it to me for 3 days, but it worked! Same dose, 3x day 200 mg I think.

Hi Jami, I'm single and haven't really dated in quite awhile. I think what might be a decent plan is to pick out some restaurants yourself, in advance. Ones you think you can trust. Steer your date in that direction. I'd probably get the Celiac condition out on the table early so if someone thinks they can't handle it, they can bail before anyone gets...

ARCHIVED Negative Blood/ Positive Biopsy?
Nancym replied to tmk's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Someone posted something recently that unless you have total villious atrophy there's a 33% chance your blood work will be negative for EMA and TTG. -
ARCHIVED Getting Pregnant But Not On The Diet
Nancym replied to KatieB's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
If you are deficient in nutrients your baby will be too. Just taking supplements isn't going to fix it, because you won't be absorbing them properly either. You need to correct your diet and get as healthy as possible before you conceive so your baby will be a little bundle of perfection. Being overweight doesn't mean you're healthy or have proper... -
ARCHIVED Articles On Seronegativity
Nancym replied to Kottemamman's topic in Publications & Publicity
This is great! I'll attempt to translate to lay-man's terms. There's a very good chance (33%) of false negative blood tests unless your intestines are in horrible shape. Never be put off by simply negative blood tests, insist on endoscopy. -
ARCHIVED Reaction To Breastfeeding
Nancym replied to Fleur's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You CAN pass gliadin in breast milk, I just saw a study about this from the late 1990's. It's something I think I hear doctors saying can't happen, but that isn't the case. I would suggest going on an elimination diet to see if you can narrow down what your baby is reacting to. -
Wow! I'd consider suing them for withholding that information from you. I'm not suit happy but this is egregious! 5 years of suffering because they didn't tell you.

ARCHIVED Ok, So What Is Going On With Me?
Nancym replied to jabberwife's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You might have an IGA deficiency which would cause your negative results to tests yet positive results to the diet. And you probably have form of gluten intolerance that affects the brain more than the gut. Diary products can cause constipation, perhaps that is still lingering in your system? -
ARCHIVED Any Experience With Www.foodintol.com?
Nancym replied to jnclelland's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
You might want to google "Small bowel bacterial overgrowth". Sometimes intolerances to starches and sugars can be caused by that. Treatment is pretty simple, just a course of antibiotics like rifamixin. -
ARCHIVED I Guess I Should Be Tested...or?
Nancym replied to Kottemamman's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Most autoimmune diseases are connected to Celiac as well. There's a high percentage of people without total villious atrophy that will test negative to ttg and ema. And there's a high percentage of people that are negative on biopsy that do well on the diet. IMHO the diet should be tried regardless of testing and you should go on that result. -
ARCHIVED Some Symptoms Need Help With - Skin Related
Nancym replied to Glutenfree isfinewithme's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Dairy is being implicated in a lot of acne related issues recently. You might consider trying a dairy free run of a couple of weeks and see if that helps. -
ARCHIVED Family Acting Weird
Nancym replied to natalie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There's a lot of fear and ignorance. I remember my Dad getting defensive when it was suggested that my brother might have inherieted his tendency to alcoholism. He seemed to feel we were blaming him somehow. Although, I suppose parents can't help but feel responsible for the things that happen to their children, so perhaps it is just a defensive mechanism... -
Lipoma Or Angiolipomas? Or Lypomas?
Nancym replied to cyberprof's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Give the paleo diet a try. It is a very healthy diet and certainly can't hurt. It does seem to help lots of people with autoimmune diseases. -
ARCHIVED Intolerance To All Grains?
Nancym replied to alamaz's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I also found out I've got a problem if I eat too much fiber. I have been using coconut flour which is basically just fiber, it is low carb and low fat. If I have it two days in a row, I'm a mess again. I tried some out two days this week and I'm back to the bad poopin'. Hopefully it'll go away soon. -
ARCHIVED No One Will Believe Me!
Nancym replied to JENinMICH's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Only a percentage of those without total villious attrophy will have positve blood tests. If you need a doctor diagnosis you'll have to insist on an endoscopy and ample biopsy samples. And they might be able to see the damage while they're looking. Or... you could give up on the testing and just trial the diet. But you can't do both at the same time... -
ARCHIVED Teen - Blood Test High Gliadin Iga
Nancym replied to Judee's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I just read that without total villious atrophy 30% of blood tests are negative. More doctors are starting to become aware that IGA *is* indicative. -
Word of warning, don't cut out the gluten before your testing, you may heal enough to become a false negative. On the other hand... 30% of biopsy proven celiacs without complete villi atrophy have negative blood tests. So either way you might have a negative blood test and still have celiac disease.

ARCHIVED Ordered Tests From Endolab
Nancym replied to Sandi's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Doing the Enterolab sample thing for me was vastly funny. I took my sample... all wrapped up in 18 ways and disguised, with me to work and stored it in the freezer there until I could drop it off at the DHL place. I was sweating bullets someone would find it and investigate it, thinking it was a treat...
