ARCHIVED In Need Of A gluten-free Laxative
marciab replied to sparkles's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
All laxatives tear me up for days, so I use a glycerin suppository when I get that bloated, tense feeling in my colon and I haven't gone in several days. I use the Fleet for children from Walmart. It usually only takes 5 - 10 minutes to have a BM and there are no after effects. I can't use enemas either because they cause they make me cramp for hours. ... -

ARCHIVED Fat Intolerance
marciab replied to emcmaster's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've had trouble with fats for a long time too. At it's worst, I would burp up any fat that I had just eaten. Like the butter on popcorn. I don't throw up, it just hangs in my throat and keeps coming back up on me. It was that way with all fats though, not just butter. Sorry, TMI I'm digesting all the healthy fats easily at this time. EVOO, flax... -

ARCHIVED Is Anyone Else Having Problems With Tasting Cans Or Dyes ?
marciab replied to marciab's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm a super taster and a super smeller. It is embarrassing to have to run out of a room when some one is breaks out the Pinesol or that Orange cleaning product. I can only handle the vanilla or cinamon scented candles, etc too. I like the cinamon brooms. Has anyone tried the taste bud / dye test ? I'm really not sure what a tongue is supposed... -

ARCHIVED Is Anyone Else Having Problems With Tasting Cans Or Dyes ?
marciab replied to marciab's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yep, what Rachel said about toxic overload and not being able to handle them anymore makes a lot of sense. I was a junk food junkie too. My sensitivities have definitely increased over the last year. Any ideas of how to undo toxic overload ? I have seen some info on detoxing, but haven't pursued it past adding a few detoxing herbs and foods... -

ARCHIVED White Bumps On Tounge.....tastebuds That Hurt!
marciab replied to angel-jd1's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I get these from time to time too, but I have never figured out why. At one point I thought it was from walnuts, but I eat those all the time now and so far so good. And I thought they were from eating too much citrus, but I haven't retested that one. But, they do hurt. I used orajel in the past and tried to leave it alone until it healed. Usually only... -

ARCHIVED Is Anyone Else Having Problems With Tasting Cans Or Dyes ?
marciab replied to marciab's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Rinne, My taste buds definitely have been awakened / changed since going on this diet. But, I noticed all this before going on this diet. The taste doesn't stay in my mouth. It just hits me when I eat certain foods. I can taste freezer burn right away too. And smell mold on bread or oranges before most people. I can find articles on... -

ARCHIVED Is Anyone Else Having Problems With Tasting Cans Or Dyes ?
marciab replied to marciab's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am in between a normal and a super, but I had a tough time with the test. I could have gone with any of the three depending on my mood and the restaurant and the people I was with. This actually feels more like a chemical reaction than a food preference. I get a strong metallic taste if I eat something from a can. But, I haven't always been this... -

ARCHIVED Is Anyone Else Having Problems With Tasting Cans Or Dyes ?
marciab replied to marciab's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
GFP, Thanks for the article - I copied part of it in - "Scientists now know that not all people experience tastes in the same way. This is mainly down to the number of taste buds on your tongue. The more taste buds you have, the more intensely you perceive tastes, especially bitter ones. People who are particularly sensitive are called supertasters... -

marciab replied to marciab's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Chelse, I noticed that lipsticks taste gross. And those flavored chapsticks ( I snunk one of my daughter's thinking I was going to get something good) tasted nothing like was it was supposed to. How r u doing ? I always think about you when I am choking down my iron and baby vitamins. Marcia -

ARCHIVED Is Anyone Else Having Problems With Tasting Cans Or Dyes ?
marciab replied to marciab's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Rinne, Any ideas on why we are tasting chemicals while others are not ? I have no idea how to look this one up on line Tasting cans is a pain, because I miss buying canned beans and tomatoes. The others I gave up a long time ago. Peas, corn, asparagus, etc have been tasting funny for years. Rachel, I am just beginning to realize how food... -

marciab posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi All, Has anyone else noticed that canned foods taste funny ? I think I am tasting the can. I noticed that foods with dyes in them taste funny to me too. I have finally figured out why I never liked red velvet cake. While everyone else was talking about how great it was, I was always sheepishly looking for a garbage container. It never dawned... -

ARCHIVED A Kinder, Gentler Iron Supplement?
marciab replied to penguin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
ChelsE, I'm really disappointed that your doc isn't going to order an iron iv for you. But, you have a lot of good ideas for iron loading. At my pre-op this morning the nurse told me to use a cast iron skillet for cooking my meat in. She said that you will pick up some iron from the skillet. Sounds weird, but I bought one while I was out anyways... -

ARCHIVED A Kinder, Gentler Iron Supplement?
marciab replied to penguin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
ChelsE, I'd be right there with your mom. The pharmacist at Walmart had no idea what I was talking about either. I got my prescription baby iron from CVS. But, I did see some Poly Vi Sol with iron at Target yesterday. I was comparing prices. BTW, it is cheaper at Walmart. Both companies keep the baby vitamins in with the kids vitamins. Poly Vi Sol... -

ARCHIVED Mouth Blisters
marciab replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Rachel, Sooo, when you get these mouth sores does the whole inside of your mouth feel swollen ? I'm not sure if I actually have mouth sores or if I am just biting the insides of my mouth because it is swollen. Salt appears to be a problem for me too. But not on any regular basis. Marcia -

ARCHIVED A Kinder, Gentler Iron Supplement?
marciab replied to penguin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
ChelsE, I don't want to alarm you, but those numbers are very low. How is your hemoglobin ? My iron is an 8 and they are concerned. The normal range for iron/ferritin is 10 - 232. My hemoglobin is 11.1 and I have been told this is not good for me either. Of course, I am losing blood on a regular basis too, so we have that to worry about. ... -

ARCHIVED Poly Vi Sol Is Gluten Free And Good For Adults Too
marciab replied to marciab's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I tried to edit my post and lost it. Anyways, I just checked out the generic Ferrous Sulfate Elixir I've been using. The pharmacist said it was gluten free, but I wanted to see it in writing. THe company is Morton Grove Pharmacueticals and their website says it is gluten free ... My doc has me on 1/2 tsp diluted into appr. 4 oz of juice or water... -

ARCHIVED Poly Vi Sol Is Gluten Free And Good For Adults Too
marciab replied to marciab's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
ChelsE, I couldn't handle the childrens chewables either. I am starting with 1/2 dropper of the Poly Vi Sol mixed in water. The dosage is 1 dropper for infants, but I have to go really slow on anything new that I introduce. I am planning on taking it twice a day. Which reminds me, I need to go take it. I have to eat a cracker or have a little... -

ARCHIVED Poly Vi Sol Is Gluten Free And Good For Adults Too

Hi All, Got this from Enfamil this morning. "Thank you for contacting the Enfamil* Resource Center. All Mead Johnson vitamin products, Vi-Flor* and Vi-Sol* Drops and Fer-In-Sol* Drops, are gluten-free." My doctor has me on the baby iron, because my tummy is sooo sensitive. Three weeks now and so far so good. A little gas and chest pain,... -

ARCHIVED Tooth Discoloration
marciab replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Shannon, I stumbled onto this while looking to see if Poly Vi Sol is gluten free. I see where you asked this back in March, but I don't know if you ever got an answer to your question about tooth discoloration. I am currently taking Ferrous Sulfate, generic for poly vi sol iron for infants, and my teeth will turn grey if I don't reduce... -

ARCHIVED Disappointed With Wild Oats Market
marciab replied to marciab's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Cassidy, I went to the one in Melbourne, FL. They told me that it has been there for 8 years. Tiffany, Chili sounds good. I've just re-introduced meat into my diet, so I'll have to modify my recipe to eliminate onions, etc. And I am guessing Mc Cormicks chili mix is out. I got my gift card today. And they gave me my money back... -
I've done this my whole life, but only for a few days at time. I force myself to eat when I am like this. Lighter foods, like potatoes, apple sauce, cream of rice, and plain fruits and veggies are easier to digest when I am like this. Also, eating very small amounts roughly every 30 - 60 minutes helps too. Spoonfuls of any nut butter are a good source...

ARCHIVED Has Anyone Tried A Colon Cleanse Product ?
marciab replied to marciab's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hey there, Thanks for replying. This is interesting. I thought I would save you some time, since I had checked out the Drnatura website: "Elimination should be complete, fast and easy. The stool should be light brown in color, long and large in diameter, “fluffy” in texture and floating on top of the water. There should be no offensive odo...
