How about using the word "absolutely" far too much when a simple "yes" would do nicely?? -
ARCHIVED Pet Peeve Regarding The Slaying Of The English Language.
jerseyangel replied to Imanistj's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'll have you know it's work to fracture the language the way we do over there! I'm normally very particular about my spelling, grammar, and punctuation so I usually have to go back through what I have just typed to "silly it up". It's fun, though, and can take the edge off of a bad day Come join us! -

ARCHIVED Skin Care Need To Be Gluten Free?walmart Products
jerseyangel replied to horsefarmer4's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Laurel, I can't use Bare Minerals either--it makes my skin itch. What I attribute it to (and this may be true for you too) is the bismuth that they use. I switched to Everyday Minerals, which do not use bismuth. There is a mammoth thread here about the line. https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.ph...eryday+minerals This is their site--... -

That kale recipe looks great, Liz. I'm going to try it. I tried fixing kale once, but I just sauteed it for a few minutes in olive oil and garlic and it was just too tough--I also didn't know to "devein". Do you just remove the large center one?. We liked the taste, though so I want to try again. -

Liz, it's so good to hear how much better you feel these days. I have to tell you that this is almost exactly what I usually eat for breakfast! Sliced banana, a couple spoonfuls of almonds I've chopped in the food processor, blueberries, plain greek yogurt and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Really good and filling!! -
ARCHIVED I Actually Found A Cake I Like.
jerseyangel replied to Imanistj's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I hope they decide to order it for you! My favorite gluten-free cake mix is "Cause You're Special". It's harder to find, but the Lemon is to die for and I add spices to the white and it makes the best spice cake I've ever had--gluten-free or not. Thought I'd mention is case you ever see it -

Definitely use plastic wrap to roll out the dough.....the first time I made it, I made the mistake of flouring the counter as I always had with wheat flour and ended up using a spatula to get it off. Also, it's a bit more crumbly after it's baked than what you may be used to but it's really good and worth the extra attention, in my opinion -

Rae-schell--Once upon a time, Mark and I were shopping with our 2 little kids--the younger one was about 2. This kid was an ideal child--sweet, quiet, well behaved, didn't cry or carry on excessively.....a little joy. He was slow to walk, and had only been mobile for maybe 6 months at this point. He was right there with us and his brother, when we... -

Grrr-rrr-rrr (((Hugs))) I'm sorry hubby is being a fart. I would probably ask him what it's like to be perfect As for yer MIL.....when I was your age it would have really bothered me but now I have no patience for mind games. I have the utmost respect for people to believe as they wish, but loathe when they use it to try and shame others. ... -
Ok, I get it now I guess if the mother is set against you sharing her kitchen it would be very difficult for you to stay safe from cross contamination--no matter how well intentioned they are. It's too bad she can't meet you halfway, but in the end it's her home..... I see there are others who will be on-campus for the holiday. Making dinner for...

ARCHIVED Pasta Variety
jerseyangel replied to Alphawave's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Enjoy!! A couple tips--use a large pot and bring the salted water to a full, rolling boil before adding the pasta. Stir often while cooking, and begin checking for doneness several minutes before the label indicates. I don't rinse--I find the pasta stays hotter and whatever sauce I'm using sticks better. -

And posts afterward I dunno Em..... You could saute onion and peppers, throw in some pasta sauce and the chicken and serve it over some rice or pasta. I love to do big salads--wif lettuce, chicken, olives, veggies, crumbled bacon, cheese....etc. I like that so much I always make too much chicken -
Yes yes yes!! It takes a little planning, I'll grant you, but why should you stay alone for the holiday?! I quoted Mtndog since I have the same advice--make your own safe meal for Thanksgiving dinner (doesn't have to be elaborate, but something that you love), and then go food shopping while there and ask that you can share the kitchen for the rest...
