  1. My poor twin! I hope as the day goes on, you'll feel better. If you were an ostrich, you could just bury your head--maybe that's why they do it--headaches! And now a word about Susan's skin--(in keeping with the theme of the thread)--Is it getting any better? The things we do for beauty...
  2. Hi Donna, Sorry that the doctor wasn't more help. That is about what I'd expect from a doctor, too. They don't even entertain the thought that food could cause these things. I have several tubes of Rx steroid and cortisone creams. I had eczema on my eyelids that went on for about 12 years. Tried everything, Rx and OTC. Got opinions from a few doctors...
  3. I'm just seeing this this morning--went to bed early last night! My intolerance to corn, as well as most of the others, showed up after I was on the gluten-free diet for about 5 months. I had been doing very well on the gluten-free diet, and then a lot of my symptoms came back, and I was almost as sick as I was before I was diagnosed. That was when...
  4. Relax --I have read several times on this board that people use Garnier Fructis--and that it's safe. I don't use it myself, but yesterday I was at CVS, and checked the label of their basic shampoo. I found no gluten containing ingredients on the label. Read the label of the bottles that you have--if necessary, call the 800 number to the company on Monday...
  5. The thing is--they're corn. Corn is one of the foods that I'm sensitive to. If you're ok with corn, you should have no problem at all Grab your syrup and have at it!
  6. Hi Toni--welcome! You've come to the right place for advice/support with the gluten-free diet. Read over the old posts--there's a ton of information here. Anything you can't find an answer to, feel free to ask!
  7. Hi and welcome Before testing, you need to consume the equivilant of 3-4 slices of bread a day for 3 months. 2-3 weeks won't be enough time--also, be sure that they run the Complete Celiac Blood Panel. Best of luck!
  8. Celia--Try butter, salt and pepper. I know you tried butter--did you use enough salt? Another thing that is delicious is cheese grits--stir some cheddar cheese into hot grits, salt, pepper and a dash of garlic powder. Yum! Or try maple syrup and butter. I love grits, they don't love me back
  9. Hi, According to Dr. Peter Green, in his book "Celiac Disease--A Hidden Epidemic"-- "In a study done by the Mayo Clinic in 2003, approximmately 20 percent of patients diagnosed with Celiac Disease were overweight; many were obese, effectively eliminating the definition of Celiac Disease as a "wasting disease"." In my own case, I was always about...
  10. I just love it when you speak French to me Actually, your thought probably got through fine, it was my fogged brain that didn't catch it! How is everything today? All going well with the kid's house? I just thought of something--Susan may have a chat-thread of her own going here. Wherever we all land, it's a party!
  11. Hi Sparkles! I'm so glad you had the test and found out about the cancer at an early stage. The same thing happened with my dad when he was 50--he's 80 now, and doing fine. Anyone afraid of this test needn't be--a little bit of discomfort is worth catching the disease while it's still curable.
  12. Sounds great--you got the job! I don't believe we have any illustrators or calligraphers in our town... Hi Julie! Nice to see you Another soda idea--I, on occasion, drink Boylan Cane Cola. It's sweetened with sugar, and really good. It is milder than Pepsi or Coke, but you can taste the cinnamon and vanilla that's in it. Best part--it's marked...
  13. I'll be right over! Welcome
  14. I have a hard time with breakfast--between my food intolerances and the fact that I'm not too hungry then. What is working well for me now is--I slice a banana into a bowl, add blueberries and sliced almonds. You may have to experiment with different combinations/foods to see what sits best with you
  15. They're ears must have been burning!
  16. Nantzie, That is so great! Congratulations
  17. Sorry, I didn't see it--busy morning.
  18. Yep--Steelers Wheel did "Stuck in the Middle With You". It was a big song when I was in high school. They did have a follow-up song called "Star"--which I actually liked better.
  19. Hey! You moved some of the party over here and no one told me Well, I found you anyways! Susan, this cream sounds too strong for you--are you using it every night? I know that with a lot of the stronger "peel" type creams, you start out very slowly--like once a week. If the peeling and burning persist, you probably need something else....
  20. I don't think I've ever been constipated in my life. Seriously. My problem is very much the opposite--imagine my surprise when the gastro found internal hemmorhoids during my colonoscopy last year. When I get glutened, or eat certain foods that I'm intolerant to, I get the same burning and itching. I don't use anything for it, I find cool/lukewarm...
  21. Hi Mango--Quiet night in R'ville! Darn the luck about the tea You'd think that at least tea would be trouble free! Nice to see you
  22. Hi Susie, The Dr. Pepper is gluten-free. I don't know about the Light Butter product. I had that exact feeling in my throat before I was diagnosed. It was awful--I got to the point where I hated to eat all alone in the house because I was afraid I'd choke. After being on the diet for several months, it gradually went away. Every once in...
  23. B--We completely understand. You've been through the wringer lately, and no one can blame you for being frustrated! I'm also so thankful that no one was injured--I did hear that the death toll could have been huge. Such a sad, terrifying state of affairs. How are you feeling today--any better?
  24. Brown rice, in and of itself, plain brown rice is gluten-free. It it's part of a rice mix, where other ingredients and flavors are added, you would need to check. If the brown rice is used as an ingredient in a product, you would then need to check the gluten status of the product itself. Brown rice and wheat are two completely different...
