It means you have to make a decision as to whether or not you will eat it. Basically, there isn't a test that can tell you that there is 0ppm gluten, only tests that can tell you that there is less than Xppm gluten. Tests can get more accurate, but that usually means more expensive or bigger or more difficult or less reliable. So, the test that they...

Just so you know, there are styles of physical yoga practice that are much like this as well. You might consider looking into "restorative yoga", originally developed by Judith Lassater, or other forms. But I know a people who greatly enjoy tai-chi as well.

ARCHIVED Soy Shakes
tarnalberry replied to deena647's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
A lot of soy milks have a lot of sugar. Even unsweetened silk has more sugar than soy protein powder, and most people hate the taste of that stuff. ;-) (More for me! :-) ) -

ARCHIVED Soy Shakes
tarnalberry replied to deena647's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It is a plant. One species of it is grown (illegally in the US) for marijuana because it has high quantities of the psychoactive chemical THC. Other species are grown commercially (primarily in Canada or Europe, due to legal restrictions) for textiles (ropes and fabrics) and food. The species grown for food have virtually no THC, and smoking those plants... -
I too can't figure out why you couldn't do an elimination diet just because of a wheat allergy.

ARCHIVED I Survived Gall Bladder Removal!
tarnalberry replied to a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'm glad to hear you're feeling well. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery! :-) -
eh... I use my Open Original Shared Link most of the time anyway, unless I'm making two stir-fries. (Best pan ever! And Amazon still has them for $25, instead of $170!! I can't believe it!!! Get one!!!! Really, it's a *fabulous* multipurpose pot... the only thing I don't cook in it is soup, because I make more soup than it will hold.) the recipe...

check my recipes post? ;-) basic premise: make your vegetables and meat around the same size. cook your meat first, and cook your vegetables in the order of which ones can stand the head the longest. here's a very simple one: cut up boneless chicken thighs into cubes (about four slices across the long way, and then into cubes) cut up a red bell...

ARCHIVED Protien Powder
tarnalberry replied to VydorScope's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The one's I've seen at various places: Whey (dairy - but you're doing that again, right?) Whey & Egg (probably don't want that one in the house) Rice (couple different brands, might have to go to a health food store) Peaceful Planet's Millet/Qunioa/Amaranth (nasty green color, but slightly sweet taste, can be hard to find) Hemp Protein (nasty green... -
another reason I don't mind that my husband likes stir-fries so much. ;-) meat/veggies/rice, all in one spot. or beef stew. or chicken soup. or salads with meat. (that and we're too lazy to wash lots of dishes.)

do get some fat and/or protein into you with the carbs - you've got a lot of carbs again. depends on what your stomach will tolerate, of course. (this is why I keep the bags of frozen, precooked shrimp around. can't stand the smell of canned tuna when I'm sick, and don't want to deal with raw meats/eggs, so that's my meat choice.)

ARCHIVED Questioning If Diagnosis Is Correct
tarnalberry replied to tinkerbell's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
A positive result on that test means that your body is producing anti-gliandin antibodies. That's an immune response - antibodies - against gliandin - the protein in wheat. That means your body is reactice to wheat. I'd say that means that you shouldn't be eating it. Not everyone gets diarrhea or bloating - many many many people do not manifest with GI... -
On the gluten-free diet, you surrounded yourself with foods you could eat easily. Have you done the same for this diet?

ARCHIVED Soy Shakes
tarnalberry replied to deena647's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Too much soy bothers me, so instead of soy protein powder (I make my own smoothies, who needs to have all the wacky ingredients when you can just use whole foods), I use rice or hemp protein powder. (I can't have dairy either.) -

ARCHIVED Getting A True Diagnosis......
tarnalberry replied to Carolann1217's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
So if the blood test is negative, you're going to ignore the very positive results from your dietary test? The gluten challenge itself IS a valid diagnostic test. 6 weeks is probably a little too little, but possibly not since you've been cheating *every* weekend. Give it a chance, do your tests, and go from there. Regardless, assuming you have the blood... -
ARCHIVED My Wierd Story...
tarnalberry replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you got the genetic test, it may mean that you have the gene, but it hasn't been triggered yet. Call back and ask for the specific test results and clarification. -
ARCHIVED Rice Cakes
tarnalberry replied to whitball's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I also get Lundberg Farms. Where you will find them depends upong your location. Here in Seattle, I can get them at the Safeway or QFC across the street. In Southern California, I had to head to Whole Foods, Wild Oats, or Trader Joes. -
ARCHIVED It's So Hard Sitting In A Restaurant Not Being Able To Eat
tarnalberry replied to Green12's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It was isolating for me, until I made the mental shift to say "I'm going to come along for the company" and really really mean it. Now, I don't even have food slowing me down from the conversation! Haha! :-) -
in cases like that, you might consider drinking your sugar - orange juice or gatorade or the dari-free I know you've got around ;-) drink in little sips, just a little tiny bit at a time, just like you've got the stomach flu. yeah, it sucks, A LOT. but, for me, liquid sugar works well enough to get me able to get actual food in, even if it's just something...

ARCHIVED I Cant Even Take A Bananana Anymore
tarnalberry replied to Lister's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
yep. many of us regular yogis even think that the inflexible may be getting more out of the physical practice than the uber flexy folks. :-) -
I agree, it doesn't sound like your meals were very balanced. The key is balanced! :-) Think of those old time scales, only with three arms instead of two. Balance, balance balance. :-) You don't want to avoid all carbs, you just don't want to overload on them either.

I'd keep the beef out - pork and lamb are two options. No on the kiwi, though, as that is a potential bother for many people. I would also leave out the milk - the thing is that you don't know what's contributing to problems or not in a complicated system such as a diet, so leaving in something with as big a problem as milk is tricky. Now, if you've been...

ARCHIVED Why On Earth Am I So Sick Right Now?
tarnalberry replied to penguin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'd vote that either you're sick, or a dairy thing. (BTW, you can have one person able to fight off a food poisoning bug and another unable, though that's less common. Particularly if you're doing this bad. It's worth talking to your doc with D for this long, however.)
