  1. I am still new at this gluten free life, I also have UC and have found that gluten triggers it and the D is severe. The last time I was travelling and being new at this, I got glutened several times in restaurants who said ,that my food was gluten free... At the end of my trip I not only had horrendous D but also blood! I've been back on strict gluten-free...
  2. Hi ButtercupSarah, I am not sure... I am not a doctor , maybe someone else will be able to chip in with this? Or you might want to ask your doctor more specific questions about this test. Hope you get to the bottom of this soon!! Cheers
  3. Hi again, here is a link to an article on IgA deficiency and ulcerative colitis- it is a bit specialised but jut go to page 8 and you will read how patients with this deficiency are very likely to develop celiac, colitis, etc... Open Original Shared Link
  4. I am glad I could help! With me it happened the other way round ... I have had severe joint problems all my life and i have always been trying to keep a reasonable weight to protect my knees- always on a low carb diet, not eating bread, restricting pasta, no cakes, etc. I even went on a ridiculously strict high protein diet called DUCAN and wondered why...

  7. Hi there, the symptoms you describe: extreme bowel urgency, almost constant diarrhea for years, blood in stool, gas, worst is the few accidents I have experienced (ONE IN AN AIRPORT!!). I have been hospitalized twice once with extreme pain, vomiting, diarrhea (no diagnosis, just pain killers)] ... sound like you have ulcerative colitis. I have had this...
  8. You said you had blood in your stool? Please don't forget to mention this to your GI when you meet him next!! I have ulcerative colitis as well as celiac and this is one of the first signs of a flare up- you really have to watch what you eat to minimise your D , because if it develops further the D will get so bad that you will not be able to hold anything...

  12. Hi there, I do get the blisters around and inside my mouth as soon as I ingest the tyniest amount of gluten.... First, intense tingling, like electric currents flowing around my mouth.. FIRE and an explosion of watery blisters around my mouth ( I generally get them on my top lip),, on the inside part of my lip inside the mouth, ion the palate and around the...
  13. Hi there, I think it is absolutely fab that you have decided to grab this opportunity of a lifetime- I also travel a lot for work and I am already crapping myself with worry about the ins and outs of international travel- I do feel your worry, especially if you happen to be among non celiacs, it is tricky. However, I am also in Europe - well, live in...

  19. I agree with BARTFUL here, I don't take any chances her anymore- I have learned this the hard way.... I have been gluten-free only for two months now and I keep glutening myself precisely in these situations... Foods that should be naturally gluten free but are produced in shared facilities ( for example arepas with corn flour), gummy bears from my daughter...
  20. I am reading these stories and I just want to cry....! I have felt like a space cadette all my life, I am now old and have just been diagnosed- I also never went to the doctor for these issues as I thought they were part of my personality. I am in UK and use a brand called Dove,s Farm which is great, they have all sorts of flowers (gram flower, rice flower, gluten-free bread, buckwheat, etc.) which I use for different things I make. I just make the mixture up - and on it goes onto the waffle maker...
  22. I am not great at eating in the morning- but I absolutely need to have my cup of coffee... Then I have fruit, usually a mixture- melon, apple blueberries. A bowl of natural yoghourt and maple syrup- on weekends I often make waffles or drop scones for breakfast, again with maple syrup. Eggs and bacon. .... Cooking gluten-free is the easy part, CC and eating...
