  1. I had my records sent from dr 1 to dr2. He basically said he had nothing to offer that dr1 didn't, without having the courtesy to see me in person. I wouldn't want to see him now, even if he would. I shouldn't have to apologize for my choices and am highly offended that you suggest I should apologize to doctor 2. Why? He should be apologizing to me. Why...
  2. I was thinking the same thing, somehow I've been classified as a bad patient and now nobody wants to see me. So I guess I just figure stuff out through the internet now, eh? Thank god I have this forum.
  3. I sent my Dr. 1 records to Dr. 2 prior to the appointment time. I apparently hurt his delicate feelings by not following up with him and his overpriced lab. How could I know how much emotional investment that he had in cramming a tube down my throat? Maybe he'd been fantasizing about it for weeks and I denied him.
  4. I got the most unusual call today after scheduling an appointment with another GI after my last Bad Doctor experience. I had seen Doctor 2 after Doctor 1 diagnosed me for a number of reasons: doctor 2 was closer, doctor 2 was supposedly *the* celiac guy here and I just didn't like Dr. 1. Dr. 2 said I needed an endoscopy, just as Dr. 1 did, but when...
  5. Don't hold back. Please name the restaurant with the evil manager. That is entirely unacceptable.
  6. I spent a few months on the diet - it temporarily resolved my symptoms, but then I got glutened while trying to add foods back in, so I kind of got screwed up in trying to figure out which ones are bad still. It does seem restrictive, and I had to finally balance the perfectionist desire to heal so well that I had perfect bowel movements every day (not...
  7. Plenty of information Open Original Shared Link if you are in the USA.
  8. Last night I was at one of my safe places, Buku in Raleigh, and had the honor of meeting the young chef who is responsible for them having a full gluten free menu. He was so sweet, I had to stop myself from giving him a bear hug, and only thanked him profusely. They have separate facilities and ingredients for gluten-free items because he is celiac and has...
  9. Try nuts.com, seriously.
  10. I had really good luck with Open Original Shared Link - it comes with C, B12, Folate in it, and the pills aren't big.
  11. Ditto what Cara in Boston said - everyone's reaction varies. I ate half a bag of cookies thinking they were the nearly identically labeled gluten free version and they were the regular kind, and I was tired for a day and had some diarrhea but was otherwise OK. Of course, the immune system was probably silently eating away at my small intestine, but it had...
  12. I was sick as a dog after mine for days. Stomach pains, I felt like I couldn't swallow - it felt like someone had tied a knot in my esophagus and/or was stabbing me in the chest. I also had a headache. But, do be on the lookout for any fever - there was a rash of endoscopes last year that were still contaminated after being sterilized somehow. A bunch...
  13. I suffered several nights of agony with stabbing and burning pains. My endoscopy showed only mild gastritis, H. Pylori negative. But the doctor insisted I try that purple pill. I took it for a week, it helped a bit, but then I quit taking it because I was concerned that the acid reduction would do more harm than good. The GI never said I had GERD, oddly....
  14. That sounds truly awful! I can't imagine a ferritin of 0. I was really messed up when mine got to 10. It sounds like the original diagnosis was wrong indeed, at least via the blood test. Did they do a biopsy back then? I really hope you went to a different doctor than the first one. Hopefully a doctor who is better! I've found out through numerous...
  15. The most annoying one for me was GoodBelly's berry flavor, and others, contain barley. Why do they need barley in a fruit juice???
  16. Your post made *me* laugh so hard I almost fell out of my chair! Seriously - doctors can be such jerks. They think they know everything, but they're actually quite helpless. This one was sure that I had IBS (very common in women so he says!) I went to a different doctor who knew more about celiac, but went back to this one for the endoscopy because...
  17. Does anyone have any recommendations for gluten-free corn tortillas? I wanted to make fish tacos, and the only ones I could find at Whole Paycheck that didn't have quinoa was this brown rice one and oh my god, was it horrible. YUCK!!!
  18. I had my first follow up with the Gastroenterologist yesterday and I left the office in tears. I was really disappointed with his attitude. First, he refused to re-test my antibodies. I was looking forward to seeing some improvement, but he said, well - if it's still positive or if it's now negative, will it change anything? (aghast, I said well, it would...
  19. I put on my big girl pants weeks ago. I've been going to work out just about every day, stomach pain or no, D or no. I've finally decided to give up on the exclusion diet for a while, just keep track of what works and what doesn't. I just cannot live on such limited options. Last night I went out for sushi to a place I trust and had a great time. Dear hubs...
  20. Thank you all so much. DH made it the weekend without asking me how I was, and it seemed to help. He does tend to get hyperfocussed on one thing, and it helped him stop a bit. I do feel lucky to have him, but he's more fun to be around when not sad and fretting I ate a few different things this weekend and was fine, until I had a nut bar that had...
  21. Are you in the USA? Surely keep an eye on him, and consult an attorney re: AWDA - they aren't allowed to discriminate.
  22. "Wanting to fix everything"= exactly! He's good at fixing things - bikes, plumbing... but not me I guess! He just wants the doctors to do the fixing for him, but all they seem to want to say is "give it time", and that's just not acceptable. :-/ I suppose we both could learn to be a little bit more patient.
  23. It's true, I am really lucky to have a supportive spouse who went gluten free (when home) out of sympathy and who cares. I just wish I could stop having these issues so he doesn't have to keep on worrying. I swear - when I went to the GI doc I had some diarrhea that was annoying, but otherwise I felt fine. I juiced, ate healthy etc. Then when I gave up gluten...
  24. Since my celiac diagnosis, my DH has been really stressed out and worrying about me constantly. With every new obstacle, he dotes even more, asks me how I'm feeling like every 10 minutes to the point that I had to ban him from asking me that. I mean, it's not as if I'm dying - I just feel like crap sometimes. I still work out, I still live life (except for...
  25. Oh surgery is never fun. I hope you feel better soon. I think I may have gotten something from the chicken - I felt icky right after eating it.
