  1. I like "really" agree with this post. If two meals had to be prepared every time in our house I don't think the marriage would last. There is nothing wrong with having naturally gluten free meals for everyone. Whenever one family member is forced to eat something different it just "singles" out the person even more. The thing about children is if they are...
  2. The more I think about it the title is wrong. Celiac Disease is not on the rise. The "diagnosis" of Celiac Disease is on the rise. The disease has always been here. I's time for more people to realize it. Tom
  3. In my case I have learned two things. One is that food is only "fuel". The other is eat to live don't live to eat. Tom
  4. That was exactly what the lab report I am looking at right now indicates. One test had normal 0-3, one test had normal 0-4 one test had normal 0-9 and one test had normal 0-5. On two of the tests there were weak positive ranges of 4-10 and 6-9. After being on the gluten-free diet for 15 months my value for each of the tests was the same number. It was a ...
  5. In the beginning of my diet back in May 05 I had so much anxiety I could not fall asleep. I would lay awake for hours and just stare at the clock. After about a week of this I decided I needed some help. I tried Ambien with no success. I finally tried a .5 mg of xanax to relax me and a 100mg of Trazodone to help me sleep. This worked to the extent that I...
  6. I went to my home page and on the search box I typed in 3 words ( Celiac Disease news ) and came up with a lot of news articles in the US including the one by NIH in July of this year. I don't think I ever did a search like this before. There is a lot more awareness than I previously thought. Tom
  7. I see a lot of posts about attempts to get others to a least try a gluten-free diet. Has anyone been able to convince a family member or friend to try the diet and actually have them stick to it. I'm still looking for my first success story. Tom
  8. Nicole, Interesting about the Chinese. I don't know how much one would have to ingest to get raised levels of the anti-bodies. I had negetive levels and had no symptoms so I was not surprised. There are a couple of tests (tTG IgA and tTG igG) which have a level which is defined as a "weak positive". I wonder if this is the beginning of a problem. I think...
  9. Hi Nicole, I think you are doing everything ok. I had a positive biopsy only. To me it does not matter if you use a blood test or biopsy because either way you still have to respond to the diet. I did not have a blood test until 15 months into the diet. The only resason I got it was to make sure I was not getting any gluten in my diet. I must not be getting...
  10. Hi Joanne, I was Dx'd via biopay last year (May 05). I don't know how badly my villi were only that I was able to get a positive diagnosis. I only waited two weeks on diet to try dairy because all other symptoms went away in about 2 days after starting the diet. I had no problem with milk or cheese and continue to eat dairy to this day with no problems...
  11. Cathy, Do you have any info on O'Brien Brewing? Saw from website they have a gluten-free beer. I also saw they will be doing something in Sydney on Sept. 29. Maybe someone could try the beer and give an opinion on it's taste. Tom
  12. Debbie, I admire your honesty. When reading all the posts on this thread one thing keeps coming to mind. The money for the medical profession in Celiac is in the "diagnosis" not the treatment. Whether it is via blood test , biopsy, or positive response to diet the treatment is still the same. The longer one goes untreated the more money can be made until...
  13. I don't know if this could be a response to gluten/wheat. You could try not eating gluten/wheat and see if it helps. To me that would be the easiest thing to try. Tom
  14. My guess is unless you live in the Midwest the supplies are limited for now. Even if it becomes available in your particular area it probably won't stay in stock very long. I liked the product but have only been able to get it once. I live in Virginia and had to get mine in North Carolina. Maybe the rumor that AB is going to produce a gluten-free beer is...
  15. This is what I have noticed when talking to family or relatives about Celiac Disease. They mostly seem happy I am feeling ok but don't really care about the details. I think the biggest hurdle to getting someone to consider whether or not this may be the answer to their health is how it will fit into their lifestyle. For the most part it will never be Celiac...
  16. Yes they are gluten-free. In the beginning I had one every day for the first month or so on the diet. My choices were choclate or strawberry. Tom
  17. Sure it could. I just think going gluten-free is easier and it doesn't require medicine or anyone's permission to do so. If it works fine. I won't hurt you if it does not work. That's the beauty of the diet. It either helps or it doesn't. The main thing is to give it an honest effort and see what happens. If you do decide to do the diet and then get the...
  18. I do recall having stool tests during the IBS phase of my Dx. Not sure what tests were requested from the lab but at that time Celiac Disease was not brought up. My thinking is that the doctor was looking for some type of infection or virus as the problem with my irritated bowel. I had no problem with that. Last year was the first time I had ever sought...
  19. I can tell you firsthand that not eating gluten can make IBS symptoms go away. I had chronic diarrhea for years before positive Dx for Celiac Disease. As a matter of fact my condition was diagnosed as IBS shortly before testing positive for Celiac. This is why Celiac Disease is misdiagnosed for so long as it is similiar to IBS. If you were the type of person...
  20. I had both done. I thought the procedure including the IV was fine. The IV actually relaxed me. I had to edit this post. I must be suffering from ADD. I had completely forgotten about the wonderful beverage necessary for a "clear" examination area. Tom
  21. Are you saying you don't think gluten causes IBS type symptoms? Tom
  22. Hi, When I went in for my dual scope last year it was serious! I was "wasting away" for no apparent reason. I had never heard of Celiac Disease or knew that it could be the source of my condition. It appeared I was malabsorbing but I had no pain. I had my wife, brother, sister, and mother present expecting the worst. I did not know of this website or what...
  23. Lilla, Reply not meant to be harsh. I applaud you to inquire about your options. Not sure what the word "insipid" means. I found this website after I was diagnosed so it could not help me avoid the unpleasent symptoms that I experienced. I wish I had known I could have gone on the diet. Once I found out about the gluten-free diet I have been on it without...
  24. Lilla, I like this option. If you could get extra money from your government is one thing but I don't think I would want to go through a lot of pain and possible damage if I could get the same results with a diet change. The only difference between me and someone who did not get a biopsy but still went on the gluten-free diet is I had to pay a lot of...
  25. Hi Karen, Are you having Celiac type symptoms? Why did you get a blood test? Have you been on a gluten free diet at all? Tom
