  1. Having a food log will help a lot. If it isn't clear which foods are causing a problem, the trick is to gradually eliminate one item at a time from your diet. This is harder if your diet contains lots of processed food. For example, soy and/or corn are in just about everything. Nonetheless, the idea would be to keep simplifying your diet until the problems...
  2. I've been through Miami several times and you're right about the limited choices.
  3. Goat cheese worked for me, too. Tried it once just as an experiment. The best I could tell, there was no problem.
  4. I've considered the same thing to explain my additional intolerances, which like yours all started at the same time. The thing that bothers me is that I've been gluten-free for 10 years. If I have leaky gut now, then my gut must not be healing. I recently saw a post that suggested the opposite. Untreated celiac disease can cause malabsorption and...
  5. The question about the dry mouth has me wondering. When this happens, I also have difficulty swallowing. That always seemed strange because the thing in my neck that swells up is outside my throat. I'll have to pay more attention next time. Maybe I have difficulty swallowing because my throat is dryer than normal. In regard to the other question, the...
  6. I have a problem with corn but it is part of a bigger issue with a specific reaction. As of about 2 yrs ago, something in the right side of my neck swells up if I eat corn, soy, legumes, nuts, dairy, eggs, potatoes, chicken, cinnamon and most oils. Until several months ago, there was no apparent connection between any of these. Then, I stumbled over the...
  7. My only experience getting gluten by breathing was once when I stripped wallpaper and got sick. I learned after the fact that wallpaper paste sometimes contains wheat. Once I knew that, I checked wall paper pastes and did see wheat listed on a couple of them. Based on that experience, I believe it is possible to take in gluten by breathing. I have...
  8. I occasionally have these exact problems and have seen several opinions about how to treat them with vitamins (E, B-12, D) and/or minerals (calcium, magnesium). I take a multi-vitamin and a calcium supplement. These problems usually occur only when I am not taking the supplements regularly. I don't have any experience with what vitamin and/or mineral...
  9. I'm in the same boat. In my case, I have both a medical and a self DX. The first DX was at Johns-Hopkins where the DX was celiac baby. Shortly thereafter the same doctors that DX'd me decided I had outgrown the condition and put me back on a normal diet. After 40 years of untreated celiac disease and ever worsening symptoms, I basically had to do a...
  10. When the prescribed medication contains gluten, an option sometimes is to use a pharmacy that does its own compounding. An example is Stokes Pharmacy in Mt. Laural, NJ. I attended a support group meeting in Cherry Hill where the pharmacy owner talked about the process. They can check the medication and identify which component contains the gluten. If...
  11. I have the same issues of being underweight and not being able to gain. I have found that loss of appetite sometimes can be dealt with by making sure I have enough B vitamins. Not megadoses, just 100% RDA. It just takes a day or two of supplements to kick my appetite back into gear. Of course, a good appetite is of little value when food choices are...
  12. You're right. Florida has it all. Reefs. Fish. Springs. Manatees. Wrecks. Treasure ships (if you're among the lucky few). Nobody could ask for more. A long time ago I stayed with friends in Key Largo. The house was on a canal with its own dock. One night we made a quick dive in the canal. I heard some cracking sounds and made a calculated grab...
  13. For me, soy is one of several intolerances that cause something in the right side of my neck to swell up as well as difficulty swallowing. The reaction happens within several hours and takes 3-7 days to subside.
  14. I can second this. I use their products and am very satisfied.

    ARCHIVED Poll

I avoid eating out as much as possible, mostly due to additional intolerances.
  16. I had a tooth crack. It was during period when I had ribs crack on 3 different occasions. Probably due to calcium problems due to celiac disease. I also have gum recession for as yet unknown reasons.

    ARCHIVED Rice

I've been eating rice 1 to 4 times a day due to additional food intolerances (soy, legumes, corn, potatoes, eggs, dairy, chicken, nuts, certain oils). I usually take two bowls of rice to work and eat them mid-morning and lunch-time. For flavor, I usually add dried cranberries although sometimes I just eat the rice plain which is not all that bad. ...
  19. Another option is Kirkman, which I have only seen mail-order. I buy direct from Open Original Shared Link I switched from the usual choices available in stores for a couple of reasons: 1) The Kirkman products are hypoallergenic. I have additional intolerances now and their supplements are the only ones that I have found that are compatible with my...
  20. I might be experiencing something similar. For about a year and a half, I've been working under the assumption I have a soy intolerance. I haven't bothered with an official DX because I have given up with doctors. They are useless with this sort of thing. The beginning of last year, I suddenly started having a problem where something in the right...
  21. Here is a link to info in Wikipedia. Sounds like the original form is available on a very limited basis. Open Original Shared Link
  22. I agree with this poster. Taking a "just say no" approach is the only thing that has worked for me. I have given up hoping other people will understand.
  23. First, be wary of advice from the Internet. It could be a recipe for disaster. Do whatever feels right for the relationship you have. Thinking back to the two times I was married, I think what I would have liked would be for my spouse to just let it go. I think dealing with accidental stuff probably caused more trouble than it resolved. It is a slippery...
  24. I would echo all the above. It was a huge relief to know why I was so sick. The incredible improvement after going gluten free made me thankful I had something that did not need surgery, drugs, radiation, etc.
  25. I would second Argentina and would add Uruguay as well, especially if you eat meat and fish (emphasis on meat, which is delicious in both countries).
