ARCHIVED Garlic Ginger Pork Stir-fry
codetalker replied to Mistilyn's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Eating some right now and typing with my mouth full. Nice change of pace. I was looking forward to this all day. Thanks! -
A bit extreme but I've started using horseradish on vegetables. In addition to Celiac Disease and reflux, I now have lectin-intolerances. Food choices are very limited and overwhelmingly bland. Horseradish brings back some eating pleasure.

ARCHIVED Cds Who React To All Grains (incl. Rice & Corn)
codetalker replied to 92Aotearoa's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Would you mind sharing the specific reactions(s) you experience? As of about a year and a half ago, I've started to react to other grains. In these cases, the reactions are tightness in my throat and something on the right side of my neck under the jawbone that swells up. I'd be very interested in knowing if other people experience similar reactions... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Have An Issue With Poultry?
codetalker replied to Anonymousgurl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I sometimes have problems with chicken, although it is not clear why. Beef is OK but my face feels greasy for a day or two afterwards. Overall, I do better with fish. Be careful there due to contaminents (heavy metals, etc.). For the past 15 months, I've been having reactions to additional foods. At first, I just scratched my head because I could see... -
At least it is just celiac disease. A celiac can successfully date, albeit with an understanding person. Add in food allergies, such as lectin intolerance, and one might as well be an extraterrestrial that lives on tree bark. Eating together is no longer doable. That sabotages a primary form of social interaction. One of you goes to a restaurant for...

Yerba Mate Tea?
codetalker replied to UR Groovy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Several years ago, my company had branch offices in Uruguay and Argentina. The first time I went there, I spent a month in Uruguay and remember quite well yerba mate. It was quite a social activity. Everybody had their mate and the things that went with it. I remember quite well the sipping spoons. The bowl was a sieve that held the mate and the handle... -

ARCHIVED Coping With Severe Gas
codetalker replied to arch8's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Keeping a log might help. For a couple of days, list everything you eat/drink along with quatities and time of day. If you want, post each day's info. I'd bet that after a couple of days, you and the members on this board would have some very good insights on the specific cause(s) of the problem. Just a suggestion. -
I would second Kaycee's comment about getting enough iron and would extend it to include all vitamins and nutrients. I spent most of 2006 on elimination diets to figure out that I had developed new allergies to soy, chick peas, corn, diary and nuts. Just over a month ago, I happened to assess my vitamin and mineral intake and realized I had no regular intake...

ARCHIVED Constipation

One other thing about my previous post that I just remembered about the yoga exercise I mentioned in my previous post: Pregnant women should NOT do this exercise. Apologies for the omission. -
ARCHIVED Constipation
codetalker replied to hathor's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There are two other things to consider trying. The first is water. I'll put a glass of water in the microwave to warm it up before drinking it. The result is therapeutic. Drinking warm or hot water from the tap is inadvisable. The second is a yoga exercise I read about that can be used for this problem. It is primarily for ab strength but has a... -
ARCHIVED Does This Ever Happen To Seasoned Gluten-free People?
codetalker replied to spunky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've learned to watch out for food combinations. Nothing to do with a celiac reaction. Just a poor choice of what is eaten with what. Early on with this diet and with so many things disallowed, I'd find myself still hungry and/or unsatisfied after a meal. Searches of cabinets and the frig would produce odd, sometimes inadvisable additions to the original... -
ARCHIVED I Feel Great!
codetalker replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
When I eat similar things I get the craving for soy sauce too. I realized a long time ago though that it goes a lot deeper than just craving soy sauce or fatty foods. There's also a craving for certain textures as well as there being a missing emotional element. I miss the taste and texture of hot, buttered popcorn. With corn and dairy allergies now... -
ARCHIVED What To Do About Other Allergies
codetalker replied to rutland's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
It might be good to have the advice of a nutritionist regardless of who else you see. I spent most of 2006 doing this myself. It took about 10 months to identify soy, chick peas, canola oil, corn and dairy. Have no idea how those all suddenly started causing problems but they did. The point here though is that although eliminating all of these made... -

ARCHIVED Struggling For A Diagnosis
codetalker replied to aussiegirl17's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Years ago I heard something on the news that made me just shake my head. Back when West Nile virus was showing up here in the U.S., nine people in New England had been DX'd so the CDC reportedly issued a nationwide alert to medical professionals. Think of that. Nine people prompted a nationwide alert. On the other hand, estimates for prevalence of Celiac... -

ARCHIVED Maybe Eating Boxed Cereal Isn't What We Should Choose.
codetalker replied to bluejeangirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Sounds delicious. My breakfasts are usually very simple, such as: Brown rice, cinnamon and raisins. Sweet potatoes, raisins and honey. Boiled eggs and boiled potatoes. If time permits, waffles or pancakes. Occasionally, poached fish and boiled potatoes. -
Best wishes to everyone for the Holiday Season! Congratulations, Rusia, for passing your one year gluten-free anniversary.

ARCHIVED Maybe Eating Boxed Cereal Isn't What We Should Choose.
codetalker replied to bluejeangirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Cereal boxes being more nutritious than the cereal inside is a well-known urban legend. It was featured in an episode of the show, Mythbusters. Of course, that does not mean the tests were not actually performed. Personally, I stopped eating processed cereal a long time ago. There are a lot of better, tastier and cheaper things to eat in the morning...
