  1. I don't know how tall you are. But 130 pounds isn't fat, unless you're very short! You need to eat more, you're underweight right now. My youngest daughter is 5'9", and weighs nearly 140 pounds, and she is very slim, nobody would ever guess her weight. A lot of people who have celiac disease are always hungry and have to eat a lot, because their intestines...
  2. Hi, and welcome to this board. First of all, if you tested positive a year ago, and you know that gluten makes you terribly sick, there is absolutely no reason to be tested for celiac disease again. And yes, if your doctor wants you to have a biopsy, you will have to eat at least four slices of bread a day for at least six months to a year, to even have...
  3. Hooray, you've finally decided to take your head out of the sand! Now go ahead and shake it out of your ears etc., too, and get yourself going in the right direction! I agree with Fiddle-Faddle, you know perfectly well what you need to do. So, just make the decision and do it! And DON'T look back, just forge ahead. You'll be fine. And might actually...
  4. Autumn, the problem comes from your villi healing. Before going gluten-free, your intestines weren't absorbing a lot of things, including other foods you were intolerant to. Plus, your gluten intolerance was likely much worse than the others, and the reactions to gluten sort of overshadowed the other reactions. Now that you have started healing, your body...
  5. 1. How long have you known you’ve had Coeliac Disease and what is your age (age-optional)? I've known about it for a year, and I am 53 years old. 2. Is it hard to cope with this condition? No, not really, as it was much harder being so sick and not knowing why. 3. Do you understand what is wrong and what it’s doing to your body? Yes, I d...
  6. Well, I get vision problems with glutenings, as well as tearing, burning eyes. So, yes, I'm sure it will get better soon. Amazing that you still did well on your test!
  7. Congratulations, that is worth celebrating for sure!
  8. I hope you're feeling better soon. Have you tried taking supplements like essential fatty acids, especially omega 3s? I don't mean just when you have your period, but consistently. It would take about two months before you would notice a difference. There are other supplements, like primrose oil that are supposed to help.
  9. That's a very good point you're making. I am doing the same thing with my chiropractor and therapist. Because the cause of my chronic lower backpain (which was helped, but never quite alleviated by chiropractic) was celiac disease! When I went gluten-free, that pain went away about 80% within a couple of weeks, and only comes back when glutened. And of...
  10. Okay, I guess you won't need little tracksuits, either. But as I said, shorts or shortalls are easy to make if you sew. I like overalls/shortalls for little kids anyway, because I don't like their pants falling down and their bellies hanging out (or unbrushed hair or dirty faces, for that matter..........typical German I guess ). I hope the testing...
  11. Dave, the rage, the cravings etc. are obviously caused by an addiction to gluten, and are withdrawal symptoms! They could last for up to two weeks, and giving in to them is not helpful. You need to stick it out and go through it, just like you would have to if you'd be withdrawing from street drugs. Once you get through the withdrawal stage, that's...
  12. Yikes, what a shock that must have been! Good thing you went to see the doctor when you did. Jacob, that's great that your levels have gone up so quickly! They're not perfect yet, but I am sure they will be soon. Keep up the good work with being gluten-free.
  13. I think it would be a good idea to let the doctors know, and to send a brochure as well, that points out why so many people remain undiagnosed. Also, it should have a list with all the possible symptoms of celiac disease, as most doctors will only look for two of them, weight loss and diarrhea. If you don't have those, you 'can't' have it, in their opinion...
  14. I don't know what Scott charges for the ads on the side (Bob's Red Mill always has one going), and if you could afford that. But that would be one way of doing it. Or having a special event (like a sale), you could then advertise it in the calendar on this board.
  15. Hi Kevin, and welcome to this board. If you want to be sure whether you have celiac disease or not, the Enterolab tests would tell you. If you'd get the whole panel, you would also know if you have any of the genes they've identified so far. I had an irritable bladder for many years. Going gluten-free didn't help (at least not with that particular problem...
  16. Yes, giving it a good six month try is a good idea. With little kids you usually see amazing results a lot sooner, if they really have celiac disease, probably within a week. Also, with all his intolerances, I wouldn't even try substituting with anything that has soy in it. It is too likely to cause a problem as well. Overalls are cute on little...
  17. I am sorry that your little one has those problems. I have had alternating constipation and diarrhea all my life, unfortunately, that can very well be caused by just celiac disease. But it can't hurt to try eliminating other possible culprits, to see if something else is causing it. I do have my doubts though, that watered down apple juice would be causing...
  18. Okay, here is that amazing list: Rikki Tikki(50), mickey(65), Nanjee(51), vir(39), sabree.k(24), Mountainman(36), detox(27), celiacat35(40), Caitlin(17), justsc(51), Thx4noticingMe(39), Marcus(40), Jack's mom(31), Shaggy(40) Happy Birthday to everybody! Especially to Rikki Tikki, who is turning 50 (remember what Victor Hugo once said:"Forty is...
  19. Nancy, this is not supposed to be a gluten-free diet, just a wheat-free diet, because many people can't tolerate wheat, even if they're not gluten intolerant. So, on a wheat free diet, oats are fine.
  20. Oh, finally! I am glad you're both okay. And 18 biopsies, that's great, hopefully they didn't miss all the bad spots then (if there are any). It sounds like they knew what they were doing, anyway.
  21. I am not sure I understand. What kind of supplement are you looking for?
  22. Oh, Julie, that is too funny. Yes, I am sure I got those looks many times for doing something that looks totally insane to others, but makes perfect sense to a person with celiac disease.
  23. Okay, sorry about that. I guess they definitely are using a different measurement. It says for women, the normal range is 115 - 155 g/L. Meaning, according to this, your hemoglobin had gone down to 80 once, which is obviously pretty bad, but not deadly. And now it's 146, which is even better than mine (mine is now 144). Oops, my thinking is unfortunately...
  24. Well, there you see that I only have experience with one terrible chiropractor, and two fabulous ones. I didn't realize that some chiropractors will demand that you should commit yourself on a plan, before you even know how much damage you have, and how often you need to go. My chiropractor will first take x-rays and do a throrough spinal exam, take your...
  25. That can't have been your hemoglobin, or you would have been dead. I am sure it was your ferritin (which was bad enough). Normal hemoglobin levels are from 115 - 155. Or that's what the guidelines are, anyway. I was anemic with my hemoglobin at 120, and was pale, with blue lips, and not enough energy to stand up many days (that is when my ferritin count was...
