  1. Yes, I get those little blisters on my fingers. If I don't open them they'll dry up, and get to be painful sores. When it gets to that, I have to rip them off, sometimes several times, before they stay away. If I don't do anything they spread. I've had that problem since 1978 (I know that, because it first appeared when I was in Montreal for a year). But...
  2. You know, much of the literature on celiac disease still claims that in order to be considered for celiac disease you have to have diarrhea and be losing a lot of weight. But those are only two of the possible symptoms of celiac disease. Two other possible symptoms are constipation and weight gain, the exact opposite of the first two. The majority of doctors...
  3. Apparently, a new member tried to post a reply and hit the report button instead of reply. Here is her reply:
  4. I absolutely cannot eat Hershey's chocolates, they make me feel terrible. Why exactly? I have no idea. But I avoid their products.
  5. Robin, I agree with Fiddle-Faddle, it could be the artificial sweetener that is causing the trouble. Also, you are not getting enough fat. The fats nobody should eat is trans-fat (partially hydrogenated oil) and hydrogenated oils, as those are deadly. But saturated fats are NEEDED for the body to function, every cell is dependent on them (as well as essential...
  6. They claim the same in Germany. I was (well, still am, I guess) a member of a German celiac forum. Many of the members said they weren't getting any better, even though they were 100% gluten-free. I suggested they'd cut out any products with wheat starch to see if it made a difference. The people who were part of the bigshot celiac disease organization in...
  7. Now that your intestines are healing, and your body is capable of absorbing nutrients again, it wants REAL food! If you keep eating gluten-free junk-food rather than good wholesome food you can't get healthy. Plus, you will lose weight on meat, veggies and fruit, but gain on gluten-free junk food. People with celiac disease suffer from malnourishment while...
  8. Yes, that is very possible. When my oldest daughter still ate things the twins were intolerant to, they'd have terrible rashes on their diaper area, sometimes totally raw. When she stopped eating nightshades, they stopped having that severe reaction (but still had issues with the diapers themselves, just not as severe).
  9. Marlene, you're right in suspecting the Primal Defence. Personally, I'd be very leary of anything containing barley and oat grass, and wouldn't take it. If you have felt like being glutened since you have been taking it, it is likely the problem. See if the symptoms improve if you stop taking it. If they do, you have your answer. There are lots of probiotics...
  10. Yes, that is very logical, I should have thought of that, too.
  11. Hi, and welcome to this board. Yes, all your symptoms point to possible celiac disease as well as casein intolerance. IBS really isn't a valid diagnosis. If your bowels are irritated, there is a cause that can be eliminated. I say the cause in your case appears to be gluten and casein. As has been mentioned, you have three choices: Just decide to try a...
  12. Hi Janie, and welcome to this board. You've gotten excellent advice already. I want to add that you absolutely need a new toaster if you're going to eat gluten-free bread. You can't clean your old toaster well enough to be safe. Here is the link to Nini's website, where you'll find the newbie survival kit (scroll down to the bottom), it will give you invaluable...
  13. Hi, and welcome to our board. Actually, anything the mother eats will pass through the breastmilk, including gluten. Meaning that if the baby has a gluten intolerance and the mother eats gluten, the baby won't thrive. Others here will tell you their stories of how their babies got better when they themselves went on a gluten-free diet. Your doctor appears...
  14. Angie and Pauliina are right. 2 - 3 months gluten-free would definitely mess up your results, your doctor is very wrong (what else is new, another clueless doctor). I would trust the Enterolab results and stay gluten-free. They seem to be the only ones out there who know consistently what they're doing.
  15. If you want an official diagnosis, but don't want to go back to eating gluten, the best alternative would be testing through Open Original Shared Link. It will still be accurate up to a year after giving up gluten. It is also more sensitive than the current mainstream testing. You have the very same symptoms I've had for most of my life. Unfortunately...
  16. Have you tried eliminating dairy as well as gluten? Soy could be a culprit, too. My migraines were mostly caused by tomatoes (eliminating the nightshade family might be a good idea, potatoes cause almost the same symptoms as gluten for me). It could be that you have other intolerances besides gluten. You may need to do an elimination diet to find out what...
  17. I suggest eliminating gluten and dairy for a while to see if this brain fog won't lift. There is plenty of evidence that this has helped many kids like your son. It certainly would be worth a try.
  18. Yes, unfortunately gluten can be in things like shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, bubble bath, toothpaste......really anything. Look for things like wheat germ oil, barley extract and oat bran. Vitamin E may be derived from wheat germ oil, too. I break out externally from those things. But you will also end up with 'eating' some of it. If you wash your...
  19. Elaine, gluten is not just in wheat. It is also in rye and barley, and oats are not recommended, either. So, just eliminating wheat (and that includes ALL wheat products, whole wheat as well as white flour products like most pastas) won't help if it is really celiac disease. If you're reluctant to wait for testing, and just want to try diet intervention...
  20. I understand why you're upset. Do they think anybody who has a health concern can just stay home every time a challenge comes up? Can't she imagine how Ryan will feel if he is left out? I hope that he won't get glutened, though, by sharing other kid's treats.
  21. It could be gluten causing it, or other intolerances. It is also possible that she needs to see a chiropractor. I know several people who had bedwetters, and the children stopped bedwetting after being adjusted by a chiropractor. My oldest daughter would wet her bed (or pee wherever) because she was a sleepwalker and wouldn't wake up. It would be a...
  22. Well, I usually eat stir-fry for breakfast (like the other meals I have). Who says you have to eat 'breakfast foods' for breakfast? I just tried for the first time cream of buckwheat (Bob's red mill), which suddenly our local health food store has (plus a ton of other things, last year she hardly knew what gluten-free meant), I put cut up apples and some...
  23. I have read in several places that celiac disease can effect male fertility as well. So, yes, I think it goes both ways.
  24. Just be aware that some of his problems could stem from intolerances, not allergies. Intolerances can be just as debilitating, but won't show up on allergy testing. Also, anything that causes delayed reactions won't show up, either. That's why for soy and milk, enterolab testing is probably the best choice. I am only saying this, because if he shows ...
  25. Hi Valerie, and welcome to our board. Have you tried Amy's pizza? I heard it's good (I can't eat it because of too many intolerances). To find out about which candies are gluten-free, check out Nini's newbie kit. Here is the link to her site: Open Original Shared Link. Scroll down to the bottom to get to the links for the newbie kit. It will be incredibly...
