Wow, Christian, you've had some terrible, and some great things happen to you this last while! First of all, Congratulations on your engagement! How exciting, and you can be gluten-free together! Of course, you must realize that it's very likely that all of your kids will have celiac disease as well, right? How about posting a picture of you and Angelle...

ARCHIVED Tmi Question - But I've Gotta Ask !
Ursa Major replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, I found that the same thing happened to me. For the first two weeks or so (don't remember exactly) I'd have bms every few days that looked like sewage sludge, pretty gross. I figured that my bowels were getting rid of garbage, too. It stopped within three weeks, if I remember correctly. I don't believe it's anything to worry about. -
ARCHIVED Does Anystill Eat Gluten?
Ursa Major replied to uhmanduh's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
What caused you to be diagnosed? You must have some problems for your doctor to suspect celiac disease, even if you don't have obvious gastrointestinal problems. If you keep eating gluten, you will likely end up with osteoporosis at a young age, and will probably die of cancer before your time. Not to mention all the many other autoimmune diseases you... -
ARCHIVED Brr... My Hands Are Frozen...
Ursa Major replied to Kody's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Cold hands and feet can be due to adrenal fatigue, which can definitely be caused by celiac disease. I am being treated for that now (by a naturopathic doctor), and my hands aren't cold as often any more. My oldest daughter used to have absolutely frigid hands and feet all the time, and when she started being adjusted regularly by a chiropractor (once... -
ARCHIVED Down To 97 Lbs.what Is The Name Of Generic Imodium That Can Be Used?
Ursa Major replied to Anne AMP's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Anne, and welcome to this board. I also get diarrhea from potatoes (besides all the foods you listed), so there may be intolerances there you haven't figured out yet. Besides, three weeks off gluten isn't very long, and some people take longer than that to start feeling better. Plums act like a laxative, and might be part of your problem. Green beans... -
ARCHIVED Pain, Daily Sweats
Ursa Major replied to Budew's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Budew, and welcome to this board. Have you seen a naturopath? Have you had allergy testing done? Eliminating all animal products doesn't sound like a great idea to me, as you aren't eating anything that contains any protein at all. Your body needs protein, or you'll never get better. One excellent enzyme is wobenzyme. I'm not sure if you can just go... -
I am afraid there is no other way for the specialist to look at your vocal cords. I feel it is very important she look at your vocal cords, the other doctor wouldn't really have known what to look for. Are you sure that other intolerances aren't causing you to lose your voice? I constantly lost my voice before I went off all the foods I am intolerant to...

I might get hives from stress, which will usually show up in only two or three small areas, looking more like one or two mosquito bites, and are intensely itchy. Food intolerances may cause me to have bad hives (the combination of grain and fruit is the worst, but no problem now, since I had to eliminate all grains, and most fruits), but will not necessarily...

Congratulations, Grant! That's great, that nobody even noticed the cake being gluten-free.

ARCHIVED Body Rejecting Food..
Ursa Major replied to Mahee34's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I agree with Carla, Evie and Tiffany............it sounds like other food intolerances. All of the foods high in lectins will do the same thing as gluten to me (possibly without the villi damage, but not necessarily). The other day I got SO utterly sick of being on such a restricted diet, that I caved in and ate egg salad on gluten-free bread sticks (which... -
ARCHIVED Why Are My Icons So Big?
Ursa Major replied to DingoGirl's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
Now THERE is a great idea! On the other hand.............right now I am taking a web design course, and was up until 5:00 this morning, trying to get an assignment right, and finally went to bed in utter frustration, because SOMETHING wasn't working. But I am sure it wasn't my computer, but me, who did something wrong.........if only I could figure... -

I found that my migraines were caused mostly by tomatoes (I am intolerant to the nightshades, and tomato is one of those). Gluten wasn't helpful, and since going gluten-free I get even less migraines. So, if going gluten-free won't help your migraines, you could have other food intolerances that cause them. Also, fatigue and lack of sleep can cause migraines...

Hi Claire, and welcome to this board. It sounds like you're doing fine. Too bad we all have to figure out things on our own, but it can be done. Yes, buying a new toaster is a must. If you're using a plastic colander for pasta, you need a new one, too, as even in the dishwasher it won't get clean enough (glue is often made from gluten, hence the name ...

That's great, Jenny, now you won't be afraid to go again.

ARCHIVED Hoping For A Dx's
Ursa Major replied to vampella's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Char, and welcome to this board. Poor little Emmah. Yes it sure sounds like celiac disease to me. If her tests come back negative, you might want to put her on the gluten-free diet anyway, and maybe have her tested by Open Original Shared Link. They do stool testing, which is way more sensitive than your regular blood tests. They also test for the genes... -
ARCHIVED Pot Syndrome (postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome)
Ursa Major replied to celiac sucks's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Your illness sounds like another one of those that are due to a definite cause (or several causes), and the doctors just have to give it a name, but really are clueless. With another doctor you could just as easily have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, because the symptoms are pretty much the same. I used to have all the same symptoms as you, but was... -

ARCHIVED My Story... If It Helps Anyone
Ursa Major replied to Robina's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for sharing your story, Robina. Sadly, it's not an unusual story. It took me 52 years to figure it out, my doctors were just as clueless as yours. My primary care doctors are now my chiropractor and a naturopathic doctor. My regular GP is only needed to order tests and to give me referrals, as here in Ontario you can't see any specialists unless you... -
ARCHIVED Help
Ursa Major replied to krispysky's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, and welcome to this board. No, you're not insane at all, your symptoms could very well be due to celiac disease. Unfortunately, since you very likely don't eat much bread, or any carbs (other than the ones in vegetables), conventional testing would probably not be helpful, as you need to be consuming large amounts of the foods that damage you over... -
ARCHIVED Diagnosing Infant
Ursa Major replied to Parvelle's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Rachel-Frances, and welcome to this board. I don't believe you have offended anybody. Andrea and Nini just don't want people to believe that you can actually outgrow celiac disease. Also, I am sure they're concerned about your 'gluten light' diet, instead of being gluten-free. Too many people here were told the same thing, ate gluten again for many... -

ARCHIVED Cookie Cutters
Ursa Major replied to momandgirls's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Okay, this is my opinion: If your cookie cutters are metal, it would be very hard to get them perfectly clean, as they have that seam, and I wouldn't use them. If they're plastic, I think most of them would be fine, if you scrub them well. If you aren't sure if you have been able to get old dough totally out of tight corners (like very pointed stars for... -
Old topics still have helpful information, which you'll come across when you do a search for specific topics you need help with. You're not able to 'clean up' your posted topics, the only one who could delete them is Scott (admin), if he'd decide to do that. It is more likely that at some point he'll archive them, though.
