  1. Michelle, I found that even before we knew what caused Susie's eczema, it helped a lot to give her evening primrose oil (swallowing the pills may be a problem, but you can open them and put it into food or drink, or just rub it onto the rash, it gets into her bloodstream that way, too), and a good multivitamin. Amy, fog in the fall is a huge problem with...
  2. Hi Kristen, and welcome to this board. It is too bad that the doctors and labs in Mexico are even more ignorant of celiac disease than in the US and Canada (which seems hardly possible). The idea to use Zoloft instead of the gluten-free diet is an insult! Doesn't that doctor know that depression, anxiety and other emotional/psychological problems are typical...
  3. Thanks, Deb, for your suggestion. But considering that within a year I went from 24 (last October, which my doctor didn't consider a big problem, figures, I guess) to now being 830 in just a year, it's obviously rising very fast, and will likely keep going up. I'll mention it to my doctor (naturopath), though, we're still figuring everything out, I've been...
  4. I agree with the dairy/soy suggestion. If she wants milk with her cereal, use rice milk (not Rice Dream, it's not gluten-free), or almond milk or some other gluten-free milk other than soy milk (I think soy milk is gross anyway ). Also, can you have a sleeping bag on an air mattress (or some similar arrangement) in your room for her, when she needs to be...
  5. That's nice, that you've got a cute new guinea pig. I could have guessed they'd put wheat into guinea pig food, they put it into everything if they could, because it's cheap. Alfalfa pellets sound like a good idea. Did you know that guinea pigs go wild over dandelion leaves? They're VERY nutritious, and free! When I was a kid, my brothers, sister and...
  6. Can you get two kinds of cards, one lengthier one for your friends, and one for restaurants?
  7. Sorry, I was in a touchy mood last night, after a very stressful weekend. I felt offended last night, but reading your post today, I see no problem with it. I should make it a policy of leaving for a few hours (or sleep first) when I feel like giving a snappy answer, and the next day I might see things differently. Carla is right, you may want to look...
  8. Tiffany, last week I had a period of several days were my temperature was as low as 34.7 degree Celsius (94.46 degree Fahrenheit). Are you trying to suggest that those temperatures are 'normal'? Also, my temps jump all over the place, they aren't steady at all. That isn't normal, either. And the way I feel certainly isn't normal! I asked my naturopath...
  9. Gail, that looks like an interesting thing to try. I think I will do it, I don't believe it can do any harm.
  10. I want to add that yes, it IS possible for adrenals to go from perfectly healthy to failure instantly. If somebody suffers a terrible shock, then it can happen. I read that John F. Kennedy was on a warship that was rammed, and not many people survived. He had adrenal failure from this one terrible shock, and needed to take adrenal hormones for the rest of...
  11. Karen, all your blood tests prove is, that the damage to your villi isn't pronounced enough yet to produce enough antibodies to show up in your blood. And that is a good thing. On the other hand, people who have the gluten sensitivity genes rather than the celiac disease genes will often have more nervous system damage and psychological symptoms, rather than...
  12. Congratulations on the new job, new life, new everything, and I'm happy for you to be able to leave your 'old, stinking job' behind. Hooray! I hope everything works out to be just perfect.
  13. Actually, a lot of my vitamin levels weren't so good a year ago, before I went gluten-free. They have just improved tremendously as my intestines have healed.
  14. Kassiane, I am sorry you have to deal with so many problems already. I am also autistic (Asperger Syndrome) and have many of the same intolerances as well. I disagree that there are only either healthy adrenals, or you have complete failure. The road to failure usually leads through the stages of adrenal fatigue and adrenal burnout. The end stage, if undiagnosed...
  15. Georgie, my vitamin B is 830 (normal is more than 150), I was tested for everything just recently. Blood sugar, cholesterol, ferretin, hemoglobin etc. are in the perfect range, too. So were the thyroid tests they did, though. But as you said yourself (and my naturopath agrees), that doesn't mean the thyroid is functioning properly. That's why I am doing...
  16. Who said anything about 'sleepy' adrenals? You better believe there is such a thing as adrenal fatigue, adrenal burnout or even adrenal failure (which will happen if you ignore the first two, and can be deadly). Just because your average MD is absolutely clueless about this problem doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Just as most MDs know nothing about celiac...
  17. Yes, malt extract obviously has gluten, and you better give it away before you give into the temptation!
  18. I cut out the nightshades five years ago, and I find that I can handle having them about once a month now. But if I eat them two days in a row I'll get digestive problems. But it's almost harder to eat them one day, and not to be able to keep eating them, than to just not bother with them at all. Potatoes used to be my favourite food (followed by German...
  19. Well, I saw my naturopathic doctor last Thursday. I told him about my low temperatures, and what I heard here about Armour and the connection of thyroid troubles and low functioning adrenals. Anyway, he explained to me how it all works. And he gave me a temperature chart to fill out every day. I am supposed to measure my temps three, six and nine hours...
  20. Hi, and welcome to this board. Yes, I do react quite differently to foods I am intolerant to. Which foods bother you? And what are your symptoms? If you tell us more, we will be able to hopefully help you better.
  21. First of all, I forgot to welcome you to this board, so: Welcome! Secondly, I forgot to mention that you need to check all your personal care items for gluten, and replace the ones that do. Look for things like wheat germ oil, barley extract, oat bran in shampoo, conditioner, lip balm, lipstick, toothpaste etc.. Nini has put together a 'newbie kit'...
  22. Jebus, it is quite likely that these continuing problems are caused by other intolerances (even though it is possible that you are just slow to heal). I suggest eliminating all dairy (which, all by itself, can cause those symptoms, even if you weren't gluten-intolerant) and soy, to see if that helps. If not, you may have to try an elimination diet to find...
  23. Hi Nancy, and welcome to this board. You have a lot of good questions. When I look at the combined symptoms of both your sons and yourself, it makes even more sense to think it might be celiac disease (or gluten sensitivity). Since it is genetic, it obviously will effect different members of the family, but will not necessarily cause the same outward symptoms...
  24. Hi Angelle, I don't remember seeing any of your other posts, its good to see you! Congratulations to you too, and thanks for posting the picture, you look good together! I'm glad you realize that your kids will likely have celiac disease as well, you might as well just have a gluten-free house, it will make life easier, anyway. And I didn't mean it...
