  1. Kody, gluten can cause MS symptoms. As can Aspartame. Do you drink or eat things containing Aspartame (Nutrasweet)? Just an idea to rule that out. Quit your job, I think that should be a priority. I know you need the money, but it isn't worth losing your health over a job. Only if your health doesn't improve after you are truly free of all gluten should...
  2. Kody, I think going to Mexico for a while is a fantastic idea. I agree, if you need to take a break for medical reasons, you won't lose your scholarship. You need to obviously talk to the college about it first, and get the official approval. It is obvious that you can't function right now. Also, maybe taking one or two courses long distance (same college...
  3. Liz, yes, Enterolab will provide service internationally, I checked with them on that a while ago. But in young children, the diet is the best test, anyway. Oh, and you don't have to eat gluten for an accurate result with Enterolab. It will still be accurate up to a year after you eliminate gluten. So, if the diet shows dramatic results, I wouldn't bother...
  4. Deb, that story is hilarious, I laughed so hard it brought tears to my eyes. Aren't kids great at embarassing us in stores? That reminds of what my second youngest, Janet, used to do. When she was three, she used to point at people, and say things like, "Mom, why is that lady so fat?" or "Why does that man only have one leg?" So, when she did that...
  5. Cassidy, even though other foods you're intolerant to won't cause intestinal damage, that doesn't mean they don't do damage elsewhere. They can cause irreparable neurological damage in the end, I believe. It would be better for your health to eliminate known allergens/foods you're intolerant to. You can eat white spaghetti sauce, I've seen a gluten-free...
  6. Liz, I hope your husband's results will be positive. And your doctor is totally, utterly wrong in saying that blood tests are completely reliable in young children, and that your son can't have celiac disease. Heck, the blood tests aren't even reliable in adults! That kind of doctor makes me so angry. Have you been able to connect to Enterolab yet? I just...
  7. If your daughter has the symptoms, it is very unlikely that the blood test result is a false negative. On the other hand, the biopsy may turn out negative, because in a three-year-old there may not be enough damage yet to be seen (which would be a good thing). I would advise you to try the diet after the biopsy is done (without waiting for the results...
  8. I'm glad the director is receptive, rather than making you feel like a pain. But I am sure it was frustrating to see the Crispix project! I guess it will take some time. But don't let it go when this happens, because otherwise they'll feel the Crispix were fine, while they were not.
  9. Sounds like the dream teacher for your daughter. Its so nice when you know you won't have to worry about her safety while in school.
  10. Patti, that sounds familiar, I get something similar to that at times when I eat something wrong. It's your bowels complaining about the poison they have to deal with, I think.
  11. John, your results show very clearly that you're gluten and casein intolerant. They also show that your intestines aren't too damaged yet, as you have no malabsorption yet, which is great. I am no expert on the genes, somebody else will have to chime in here. You obviously need to be gluten-free and casein free for life, no question about that.
  12. Wow, now you made me cry, too. How wonderful.
  13. Karen, that is very smart. Most kids that age think the bank 'just gives' you money. I wished they would. Last spring when I was visiting my oldest daughter in Ottawa, I realized I forgot to bring any sesame snaps, which is pretty much the only snack I can actually tolerate. So, I took Emily, my oldest granddaughter (then still 5) to the grocery store...
  14. I am very glad to hear that your daughter is back to her happy, easygoing self (and pain free). That must be a relief for the whole family.
  15. Hi, and welcome to this board. As my naturopathic doctor says, weight gain can be a sign of malnutrition just as much as being underweight. Because when you can't absorb nutrients, your body will scream 'hunger!' all the time, and you eat a lot. Your body will hang onto every little bit it can and turn it into fat, because it thinks it's starving (and...
  16. Yes, I agree that you didn't have a choice for a while, because it made you sick. And you likely didn't digest it anyway. As I said, just slowly increase your fat intake, so you don't 'shock' your body with it all of a sudden! I am glad you're healing, that means you're doing well on the gluten-free diet.
  17. Katherine, I love it, and it works perfectly. The only problem is, that you say at the very beginning that gluten is the protein from wheat. You don't mention rye or barley, and so people that use your fabulous flow-chart may not understand that rye and barley contain gluten, too. If you fix that, I think it will truly be excellent.
  18. Thanks, Carla. Hanna is now 3 months old, and Zoey is six months old. They're both so very sweet. When I had them both sitting (sort of ) on the couch for that picture two weeks ago, at one point Zoey reached over and stroked Hanna's head very gently several times. She'll stroke my cheek with that soft hand of hers when I hold her, too. She is just adorable...
  19. Even though it may be possible, gluten can cause many skin reactions other than DH, and it could be eczema. If you can't get rid of it, see your doctor and get an eczema cream.
  20. Tiffany, I voted to be intolerant to both dairy and oats. The option that said I am intolerant to many things other than dairy or oats I took as, that I am intolerant to things OTHER than dairy and oats, and can have those. But I am intolerant to everything under the sun INCLUDING dairy and oats.
  21. Anything below 97.6 is too low, I believe (as your average daytime temperature). Mine was as low as 94.4 at times during the day, which is extremely low, and in fact is considered to be mild hypothermia. There is a problem long before that. Carla, knowing that you had tick bites many times during your childhood, and haven't felt great since then is highly...
  22. Elizabeth, a very low fat diet is very unhealthy over the long run, as every cell in your body needs fat to function. The reason you couldn't tolerate it for a while was, that your intestines couldn't absorb it, and so it messed up your system. The problem with dairy was, that the tips of your villi (which were non-existent for a while) produce the enzyme...
  23. Molly, I hear you. Personally, a digital camera or some computer software, or an mp3 player would thrill me, and I don't care a lot for jewellery (I wished my husband would finally understand that, he gave me jewellery for my birthday this year in May, which I haven't worn yet). My girls are different from me, though, and like jewellery. But my youngest daughter...
  24. Kristen, I have found that my older girls loved getting a 'sweet 16' silver necklace for their 16th birthday. I don't know how much money you want to spend. All teenaged girls love jewellery. You know the girl and would hopefully know her taste. If she has pierced ears, some earrings would be good, too. Or a really nice watch (here it gets tricky, though...
  25. Okay, being on vacation would answer why I haven't heard from him. But I am serious when I say that he won't be back.
