  1. Acidophilus is good gut bacteria, without which yeast will take over. Antibiotics will kill off the good and the bad bacteria, and if you don't replenish the good bacteria afterwards, you can get into all kinds of other health problems (meaning, you'd do well to get some for yourself and your daughter as well). It is tasteless, but I'd put it into juice rather...
  2. After only two months gluten-free, the test would definitely be accurate. They told me it still would be after a year when I asked. In your case, I would recommend just going for the antibody test, just to really know if gluten is a problem or not. If you can afford it, I'd try the casein one as well. Have you tried going dairy and soy free? Those could...
  3. Taking antibiotics with no improvement indicates it's a virus (which would have been my guess anyway), and antibiotics won't help. His problems could be caused by food intolerances, which wouldn't be helped by depleting his good gut bacteria by antibiotics. Why don't you try giving him children's acidophilus (you can open the capsules and put the powder...
  4. One week isn't enough to get a lot of healing done, so I think eating gluten for a month would be enough. But do you REALLY want to do that, and get really sick again, just to confirm something you already know? It wasn't worth it to me. But of course, it's your choice.
  5. Take a deep breath, and tell yourself over and over, "I can do it, I can do it............." And I am sure you'll do great. Try having fun with it, you'll be more convincing that way. I hope you get in! Those shows sound like a lot of fun.
  6. Sure, often that is possible, but not always. With that toolbar I mentioned, every time you thought you had deleted it, it would pop back up the next time you started IE. It wasn't possible to delete, two computer experts tried it (I paid them to do it), and it couldn't be done.
  7. That is so nice.........the other girl actually had a good time, too, thanks to you.
  8. What goes ALWAYS into my basked? Ground beef, pear juice, dark chocolate, celery, pears, limes, shallots, pre-packaged salad.
  9. Now THAT takes the cake, I laughed out loud reading that!
  10. To be honest, some doctors will take an Enterolab diagnosis seriously, and others won't. Some insurance companies will cover it, and many won't. That's the way it always is with something new, I'm afraid. But if you test positive and believe the results are valid (and I certainly would believe them), you don't have to tell anybody how you got diagnosed...
  11. I was sick all of my life, from the age of three. Always had terrible joint, back and muscle pains, alternating diarrhea and constipation, was a walking stick-figure as a kid (and no matter what my mother tried feeding me - of course, containing wheat, I couldn't gain weight) and never had any energy. I thought everybody felt that way! I had heard of celiac...
  12. I noticed amazing changes within a day! It is definitely not a fluke, that is fantastic, you must be so happy!
  13. Char, when Susie was three she had a broken leg, and she got around the house fine on her own........sliding on her bum! So, just put her on the floor, and let her figure it out. No need to have her be in a wheelchair in the house and needing you all the time. And outside, a wheelchair is fine, but why not just use a normal stroller, or a wagon? That's what...
  14. Mine is....................drumroll.............................Stubby Stocking Stuffer!
  15. I had an issue with something that downloaded itself during a search last year, masquerading as a new Internet Explorer toolbar. It was impossible to get rid of, not even my computer support person could get rid of it, we had to reformat the computer. There was no other way. It would hijack all searches, and even hijack my homepage. And since all programs...
  16. Sally, that is great about your trip, I am happy for you to have such a considerate boss. Yes, the eucharist is definitely wheat, don't have it next time! Either bring your own gluten-free bread, cracker or whatever, if they'll let you, or just have the wine, which is just as valid. That is what I do. I hope you don't get sick.
  17. I was awfully sick with nausea, weakness and no energy at all (I don't vomit, though, sometimes I wished I would) for the full nine months with each of my five children, and had eight miscarriages. I am very sure now that the reason was celiac disease. It's amazing that all my children are healthy, after all that. I don't know how bad the cleft lip on...
  18. I believe there is an excellent chance that any upcoming pregnancies should be completely problem free, if you're very diligent with the gluten-free diet. But I disagree with your doctor about waiting only 2 weeks to a month before trying to get pregnant. Your body needs a lot of energy to heal the intestinal damage, without the added stress of 'making...
  19. Hi Mitch, and welcome to this board. As said before, your question is absolutely not stupid, but rather very reasonable. Since celiac disease is genetic, you could well be the one your son inherited it from. And the difference you've felt from being nauseous after eating a full sandwich, and feeling fine with just eating the meat is very telling. When...
  20. Hi Victoria, and welcome to this board. All of your symptoms sound pretty typical of celiac disease, and yes, the reaction you got to the chips is not unusual. It confirms that you're doing the right thing by giving up gluten. Also, knowing that now you definitely notice a reaction to gluten, and get pretty sick will help you to be diligent about being gluten...
  21. You are confusing pinning with stickies. In other forums they have stickies, which always stay at the top. Pinning is something altogether different. We don't even have stickies here. Here when you post a new topic, it initially is at the very back of the specific forum. Once a moderator sees it, they read it to see if it is appropriate (as in: not spam...
  22. Michelle, I understand your frustration. The biopsy from your stomach is useless for diagnosing celiac disease, and ONE of the duodenum is almost as bad as none. Many doctors claim that things look fine (to the naked eye, of course), while the lab finds damage to the villi consistent with celiac disease. So, just because your doctor thinks things look fine...
  23. Ah, your rant clarified what you really meant. And I wholeheartedly agree. My oldest daughter has a policy that every time her children get a new toy, they have to choose one to give away. She has five children, and feels that otherwise they get greedy, and her house will be overrun by toys. Maybe you will need to do something like that, too. My husband...
  24. Well, you learn something new every day. I didn't know that the wheat starch here and in Europe is different. Still, I wouldn't use the European wheat starch, either.
  25. To my limited understanding, it looks to me like you have one celiac disease gene, and one gluten-sensitivity gene, and should be gluten-free. You might not feel any different gluten-free, because you might need to eliminate dairy as well before you do (and possibly soy or other things as well). There are many people with celiac disease who don't have...
