ARCHIVED Doc Says More Protein...
Ursa Major replied to bakinghomesteader's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Unless you are a vegetarian, it really shouldn't be a problem. Eat bacon and eggs for breakfast (lots of protein in eggs), tuna salad on crackers for a snack, chicken tortillas for lunch, your shake for a snack, dinner with a large portion of meat for supper, something else with protein for a bedtime snack (like hummus on something) ......... It is possible... -
ARCHIVED What Do These Numbers Mean?
Ursa Major replied to kprince's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Strangely, some people with lower numbers have more damage than ones with extremely high numbers. I am not sure it really matters. Obviously you have celiac disease, start the gluten-free diet and get well! With those numbers you may want to check every six months to see if they are going down, though. -
ARCHIVED Deciding Not To Pass The Gene?
Ursa Major replied to WhimsiKay's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have multiple intolerances, and it looks like all five of my children and all of my grandchildren have inherited at least some of them (and most of them are gluten intolerant, too). But on the whole, they are a healthy, beautiful bunch. All are highly intelligent and gorgeous (yes, I can say that, people who aren't part of my family will comment on how... -
How awful, she must have purposely glutened you! I am glad you are starting to feel better. Good for you to pack up and leave.

ARCHIVED Does Gluten Intolerance Interfere With Vegetable Digestion?
Ursa Major replied to Marleigh's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Raw fruit and vegetables are hard to digest. If your intestine is damaged by gluten, you may not be able to digest anything raw. After I went onto the gluten-free diet I still wasn't able to tolerate anything raw for six months. I had to cook all fruits or vegetables I ate, and was unable to eat even salad without getting a horrible stomach ache and diarrhea... -
I agree with Shay that it sounds like adrenal fatigue. I have adrenal issues, and I would get the same kind of internal shaking that felt like 'freezing inside', without it being cold. It only used to happen when I would be under a lot of stress. I don't normally get that now because I take hydrocortisone, otherwise I sure would.

You know, there is gluten-free pizza, donuts and pasta that are really good. It is harder to find good bread, but the selection gets better all the time. You can buy frozen gluten-free pizza crust, or make your own. Kinnikinnik makes very nice donuts, and rice pasta is just as good as regular pasta. There are many brands, and you have to try them to know...

ARCHIVED Am I Having Fun Yet?
Ursa Major replied to up-late's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You know, just because you haven't lived in a tick infested area in a while doesn't mean you can't have Lyme disease. Lyme Disease can be dormant for a very long time before you actually get sick. Anyway, one thing at a time. The thyroid and adrenal problem should be checked out first. This site has some really good info: Open Original Shared Link ... -
ARCHIVED Am I Having Fun Yet?
Ursa Major replied to up-late's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You sure sound hypothyroid and probably have adrenal fatigue as well. Get tested for both. -
ARCHIVED Toro Certified gluten-free Foods
Ursa Major replied to mouth's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wouldn't eat anything with wheat starch! A lot of people would get sick from that product. -
ARCHIVED Enterolab And Doctors
Ursa Major replied to tiredandsick's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, the problem with me always having to self diagnose is, that for over fifty years doctors have failed me, and all my problems have all been 'in my head'. If more doctors would know what they are doing, and would actually do tests to find out what is wrong, and why people have certain issues rather than 'diagnosing' IBS and fibro and just mental problems... -
ARCHIVED Confused About Celiac Disease
Ursa Major replied to Lise's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, I believe you will always be IgA deficient, so you need to do a different blood test (I don't remember which, I hope somebody else will tell you). -
ARCHIVED Enterolab And Doctors
Ursa Major replied to tiredandsick's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you have the DQ8 gene, have the symptoms and get better on a gluten-free diet, than the likelihood that it is celiac disease is fairly high. Actually, leaky gut can have many causes. One of them is CELIAC DISEASE. So, yes, it is possible to develop a gluten intolerance because of leaky gut, but one of the causes of leaky gut is also celiac disease.... -
Lynn, apparently she has no intentions of being here. Teenagers resent it when their mothers sign them up for things without their knowledge (I have one teenager now, and four grown-up kids, who were teens not so long ago), and as a result they'll be even more stubborn about it. I am afraid that there really isn't anything you can do to get her to come...

ARCHIVED Confused About Celiac Disease
Ursa Major replied to Lise's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Unfortunately, your doctor isn't very informed about celiac disease. A gluten restricted diet is useless if you actually have celiac disease, it will keep you just as ill. If you want to know if you feel better without gluten, you need to go to a 100% gluten-free diet. In this case, it is all or nothing. Either you go completely gluten-free or you don't need... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab And Doctors
Ursa Major replied to tiredandsick's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree and disagree with Rachel at the same time. Unfortunately, there is no evidence that really, the only two genes that predispose to celiac disease are the ones currently tested, at least here in North America. In other countries they recognize more than those two genes as official celiac disease genes. Some people on this board were diagnosed... -
Even though I agree with you that it is essential to do all the tests before starting the gluten-free diet, we all know that you can never be 100% sure it isn't celiac disease, even if all the tests come back negative, because they aren't nearly as reliable as the medical establishment would like us to believe. So, even if the tests come back negative...

ARCHIVED Breastfeeding Baby With Possible Celiac
Ursa Major replied to BethHS's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
In my experience, eczema is always a reaction to food somebody is intolerant to. I expect that your son has that mild eczema because you are still eating gluten. And yes, it is very necessary for the mother to stop eating gluten when the baby is gluten intolerant, because gluten WILL be in the breastmilk otherwise. I agree with your doctor that your son... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab And Doctors
Ursa Major replied to tiredandsick's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I believe there are some people here who's doctors took the tests from Enterolab seriously. Hopefully one of them will see this post and chime in. -
ARCHIVED Dont Understand Lab Test?
Ursa Major replied to Teri35's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
What does that rash look like? It sounds like it could be DH (dermatitis herpetiformis), which is caused by celiac disease only. It is insanely itchy like that. I have read that before there was a cause found for DH, and no treatment options, people with DH would sometimes commit suicide, because they would rather die than be that itchy! The only... -
Tiffany, I agree with you. Just like IBS is a bunch of symptoms, not a disease in itself and can be caused by different things, it is obvious to me that the same goes for fibromyalgia. I have all 18 tender spots plus other painful spots all over my body besides those. And they have not resolved with diet. I've tried massage as well, but again, it won't take...

I was diagnosed with fibro several years before I figured out I am gluten intolerant. I had fibro symptoms from the age of three......... or should I say symptoms of food intolerances? Because they appear to be one and the same. Just eliminating gluten wasn't enough to eliminate the pain. And I was in such excruciating pain that for five years I was on...

ARCHIVED Testing For Celiac's
Ursa Major replied to jj91709's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Here is what I think. Anemia in males is very rare, and is enough reason to get celiac disease testing done. Sometimes it is the only obvious symptom of celiac disease in males. Osteoporosis at such a young age is also a red flag for celiac disease, as is reflux, low vitamin D and low levels of other nutrients. Celiac disease is genetic, and having... -
ARCHIVED Positive Blood Work, Negative Biopsy
Ursa Major replied to *lee-lee*'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Could you tell us what your numbers were from your bloodwork? Generally, the blood work is more reliable than the biopsies. Negative blood work results and negative biopsies can -
