Hi Gemini...Thank you for sharing your wisdom. I haven't felt any sensitivity to dairy...which I'm glad about. Which other foods did you have trouble with. You've been gluten free for 9 years! Wow...how long after starting until you felt good on a regular basis? Do you still have blips? Is that just an inevitable part of the disease? Thank you... -

Hi havanesemom...Thank you for the encouraging words. I do feel discouraged at this point...but everyone on here really lifted me up today. Do you know what caused your bad blip? 2 months is a long time...which foods were causing you issues if you don't mind sharing? I'm pretty much living on bananas, tea and potatoes at this point. I'm like stupid... -

First off, love that you called it a blip. I will now be using that to talk about it too. Interesting about Ghiradelli...I just couldn't figure out what else it could have been...so I guess I assumed. I just want to know so I don't do it again, ya know. I don't really want another blip. I've felt bad for 6 days now. Ugh! -

ARCHIVED How Do You Emotionally Deal With Setbacks?
icelandgirl replied to icelandgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I really want to baby myself and just crawl in bed under a blanket. I've got 3 kids including a 2 year old, so I get very little chance to do that. Another cup of tea is definitely coming up right now though. -

That's good to hear. It is certainly a roller coaster ride...an exhausting one! How long did it take you to get through your big setback? How long until you felt really good on a regular basis? -

Thanks, Lisa. I sure hope it gets better. It was such a good feeling when I saw all the improvement that this just threw me way off. -

I'm wondering how everyone else deals emotionally with setbacks you encounter during your recovery? I've been doing so well for over a month...yay! I was diagnosed in January, had a rough beginning. But for a little over a month was doing great. I would talk about how good I was feeling, how I hadn't even realized how bad it had been until I saw all... -
ARCHIVED Just Want To Be Able To Eat Out Like A "normal" Person!
icelandgirl replied to icelandgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This I completely get. We've been doing pizza/movie nights on Fridays forever. We take turns picking the pizza and movie and all chill out. I miss that. It was nice to just order in and do nothing. LOL! I've made some pizzas at home now, but they aren't as good or as convenient.- 25 replies

ARCHIVED Just Want To Be Able To Eat Out Like A "normal" Person!
icelandgirl replied to icelandgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I also don't have the confidence to bring my food in with me...I'm sure that will come. I normally carry a bag of almonds everywhere now. Good for you on vacation to take the chance and be able to enjoy it. I'm so glad it worked for you!- 25 replies

I'm so thankful that I already loved to cook! That's really helpful. I do miss the easy convenience of being able to grab something, especially on busy sports nights.- 25 replies

Thank you all so much for your nice responses and not calling me a whiner...I know I'm being whiny. I'm doing my best to take care of myself. Making some chicken soup for dinner.- 25 replies

ARCHIVED Just Want To Be Able To Eat Out Like A "normal" Person!
icelandgirl posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm so frustrated and just need to vent! Sigh...sigh... I just want to be a normal person again...be able to go out to eat without feeling scared or getting sick. I've eaten out 3 times since my diagnosis. The first time was Red Robin were I got glutened and I was sick for a week. Ugh! Then looked into restaurants that are good for celiacs and decided...- 25 replies

ARCHIVED Uncontrollable D Making Me Sad
icelandgirl replied to C-Girl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm so sorry...that's awful. Prior to my diagnosis and for a while after I had that. I literally was having it 20 times a day and it didn't matter what I did nothing stopped it. It was an incredibly stressful time. I couldn't even walk to the park down the street with my daughter because there's no bathroom. So...I don't have an answer for you. I wish... -
Let's hope so! So far I've found celiac to be a very frustrating and lonely disease.
-
I would love to know the answer to that too. I didn't want to have surgery at all...ugh...but it went fine and that part has improved at least. In the 5 months has anything gotten better for you? I do still feel like I'm falling apart and I think I'm too young for that. Seriously÷

ARCHIVED Problems Feeling Full After Going gluten-free?
icelandgirl replied to tonalynn's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That's really hard. I felt that way the first couple of weeks but now it's better as long as I eat enough protein. In the morning I make a smoothie with fruit and plain Greek yogurt. The yogurt has lots of protein and really fills me up. I'm not vegetarian though so I'm not sure what else...almonds are pretty filling. I'm really sorry to hear about... -
I've only been glutened once and it was about 48 hours in that it all hit. Fatigue, aches, cramping and D. It's been 4 days now and am seeing improvement finally in the last 24 hours. It's like being really sick. Ugh.

ARCHIVED How Long After Being Glutened Do You Feel It?
icelandgirl replied to icelandgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
OMG...The rib pain. I hate it. Does anything help with it? It's a constant. I was so excited to go out to eat...first time since being diagnosed. The waitress was very knowledgeable. And now this...ugh. -
ARCHIVED How Long After Being Glutened Do You Feel It?
icelandgirl replied to icelandgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks...I'm bummed. The ketchup was gluten free. So either the oats or red robin. I'm so painfully gassy and constantly burping and uncomfortable and the D. Hopefully it starts to get better soon? I just went and got digestive enzymes since a lot of people on here say those help. I guess I want to think it was glutening because I don't want to have... -
ARCHIVED How Long After Being Glutened Do You Feel It?
icelandgirl replied to icelandgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I really didn't think anything of it. I was making meatloaf and it called for oats and I had gluten free ones. Now I'm suffering. Have you ever been glutened? What does it feel like? How long does it last? Does anything help? I was feeling so encouraged and this feels like a setback and it's hard emotionally. -
ARCHIVED How Long After Being Glutened Do You Feel It?
icelandgirl replied to icelandgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Looking over everything I've eaten leading up to what I think is glutening I also realized that I had oats for the first time since my diagnosis. They were Bob's Red Mill gluten free. So...The 2 thoughts are either being glutened by Red Robin and feeling it about 48 hours after or the oats and feeling it less than 2 hours after. Does anyone else have...
