ARCHIVED Costco Rotisserie Chicken
Jmg replied to pip890's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
From memory in the UK the chicken actually says gluten free on the label. The food prep area there though is gluten central. Pizza's, sandwiches etc. I don't think I've had it since gluten free, usually roast my own. -
ARCHIVED Frequent bowel movements
Jmg replied to M-SMOOTH's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The first few months on the diet are a bit hectic. You may find your system slows down over time. Just try and focus on eating really well. Best of luck -

ARCHIVED So.Cali or any state for the matter
Jmg replied to mrcoffeeguy12's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Welcome Mike! if yr going to have celiac there's few better places than Southern California, a place dear to my heart. Look forward to feeling better than you thought possible as you progress on the diet. And don't forget there's still plenty that you can have, you just have to find out what brands you can trust and what restaurant s understand... -
Thanks, I'd looked for a response and hadn't seen that. It's good to see the authors responding and addressing the issues raised. I did think the bible quote attack was a cheap shot and they rebutted it as such As you can guess I'm on their side in this debate but try to preserve a sceptical view to counter the biases my own experience has probably...

I enjoyed the article and I think there's a lot in it, thanks for sharing it However although presented as such, it's more speculative than a traditional peer reviewed paper and there are some criticisms of the approach to citations etc which I think have some validity so in the interests of balance: Open Original Shared Link Open Original...

ARCHIVED GliadinX Breaks Down Gluten in the Gut
Jmg replied to Scott Adams's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I read somewhere (here I think) just the other day that this is a deliberate tactic with patients and precisely because the stats suggest many either cheat or are not strict with the diet. The idea being that if the doctor says 'its very tough, gluten is everywhere', then the patient is more likely to confess to not being as vigilant as they might. -
ARCHIVED GliadinX Breaks Down Gluten in the Gut
Jmg replied to Scott Adams's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Absolutely. One of the biggest limiting factors for me isn't getting a gluten free meal, there's plenty of things which are naturally gluten free which I can order. It's getting something that I can actually enjoy without worrying in the back of my mind about cross contamination. The other one is travel. I used to travel extensively and had a big list of... -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy on Tuesday
Jmg replied to dalek100's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's impossible to answer this until the biopsy results are available unfortunately. The damage to the villi is too small to see with the naked eye. It's good news however that there's nothing amiss to the naked eye -
ARCHIVED GliadinX Breaks Down Gluten in the Gut
Jmg replied to Scott Adams's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks that's interesting. Especially: How odd that the gluten levels were lower with the lower dose! I'd like to have something like this on a shelf so that if I'm going to be in a place I'm not sure about I have an added level of protection. Its also good that they're positioning it like this: -
Hello and welcome Congratulations! You figured this out a lot sooner than myself or many others did. Because this: Is one of the most insidious aspects of gluten to me. It starts subtly and you come to accept the different symptoms as part of getting older or fatigue etc. Good, that's useful info to have if your diagnosis is not conclusive...

I buy the cod liver / omega 3 and a multivitamin / calcium supplement from costco. They're not expensive and they're gluten-free of course. Otherwise I try and get my vitamins etc from the food I eat. So don't worry about expensive supplements, you will get more out of the food now you're gluten-free

ARCHIVED The detox wait...how long?
Jmg replied to JointVentures's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hello and welcome Forgive me, I understand what info you need but just quickly on testing. Was your daughter given a blood test or was it a blood test followed by an endoscopy / biopsy? For a celiac diagnosis you'd normally expect the latter. I understand you're working on the advice of the doctor and you have some evidence to support the course... -
ARCHIVED Looking for advice
Jmg replied to jenhutch's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hello again That's good news. Finding a supportive doctor is very important and it's good they're checking for other potential causes. I don't think of them sometimes because gluten does so many weird things to me that I always suspect it. If I were a casualty doctor and you came in with a a severed arm I'd probably quiz you on your diet... Just... -
ARCHIVED Cursing Grandma Gluten Free Cake Tutorial

Yeah I love it too, thanks for sharing -
I'm not diagnosed but I experience very pronounced highs and lows and I did enjoy the highs. I felt super competent, highly creative. It's a rush, talking ten to the dozen, making plans, ideas for novels and screenplays, all sorts. I wrote a 10 thousand word dissertation at college in just about a single night and got a first for it. I have virtually no...

It's rare to come across a gluten-free bread that would've been anything other than mediocre in my gluten eating days. If you find your losing sales to the people that want something they can eat on the go maybe try a variation on one of these: Open Original Shared Link

ARCHIVED New Symptoms After Going Gluten-Free?
Jmg replied to crb1998's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
A lot of people go through a rough first few weeks on the diet. There could be lots of reasons, from the celiac damage or a 'withdrawal' from gluten itself: Open Original Shared Link (ignore the stuff about 'tapering' as this is not aimed at celiac patients) It shouldn't last however and hopefully you'll soon be feeling better. All the best -
That's a really good point Karen. Liability is a big issue, particulary when working with people and with food. Ennis it's a few years since I've used it but one way to work through some of these issues in a more structured way is to use Microsoft's business plan software. I think this may be one example: There's probably better ones...

A family member runs a similar, but not identical business and this attention to detail is absolutely critical in making sure that it turns a profit. Make sure your budget can support a slow start and always watch your cashflow. A lot of businesses fail in the first months even though they have a good product because of cashflow issues. Try and negotiate...

I have no experience or expertise to offer, only best wishes. I hope you get some relief! I did a little reading out of interest and found this which may be of interest given crazymurdoch's post above: Open Original Shared Link I also found this useful as an overview, it's probably ground you've already covered but I'll include it in case anyone...

ARCHIVED Celiac Disease, Sore throat and swollen glands
Jmg replied to Alessio's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It sounds good to me. It could be that food isn't the culprit here but just in case I'd suggest keeping a food diary, just a brief record of what you eat and how you feel at the time. The gluten free cereal, granola and bread/pasta may be the hardest on your digestion in the first few weeks of the diet. I'm loath to tell you to give them up because... -
Coeliac UK occasionally strike a controversial note. I often saw arguments online about recommendations. I think they're generally guided by the prevailing science. My barley malt story is that I joined CUK and the guide became my Bible in the first months on the diet. One item on there was Aldi cornflakes, I like Aldi and some months later I saw them...

ARCHIVED Safest UK coffee/sandwich and fast food outlets?
Jmg replied to rarchy's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I haven't done it much, apparently they vary in terms of staff familiarity with the requirements, so it depends on the location how savvy they are. They're really a kind of emergency option for me as there's one pretty much everywhere now. Cristiana and myself have been swapping finds here: there's a couple more restaurant chains listed...
