  1. There are dozens of paleo sites you can check out for recipes and ideas. You may also want to take a look at the GI: http://www.the-gi-diet.org/ It's based on foods which take longer to digest and don't spike your blood sugar and set off a vicious circle of sugar, insulin and fat. If you get it right your grazing drops dramatically. You stay...
  2. I am in same boat, yesterday my stomach was churning and bloated and I don't know what the cause was. How about keeping a food diary? Just note what you ate and how you feel. A few days may be sufficient to discern a pattern, either some rogue product or a previously unknown intolerance. I have read that after gluten is removed further intolerances...
  3. Alex the good news is you have found a great site with useful information and warm support! You need to work with your doctor to get a diagnosis but there are plenty here who have had similar experiences: https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/search/?&q=panic%20attack so it sounds like your on the right lines Take heart that you have probably found the...
  4. One of the weird and unexpected things about going gluten free is that for ages afterwards I was noticing things that were no longer there, The tongue coating you describe was just the same for me and it's now gone after time on gluten-free diet. Looking at Pronghorngirls' post above it does sound like oral lichen planus. I also got mouth ulcers (again...
  5. Not sure precisely what clean eating rules out? Could you have a non lactose yogurt? There are soya based ones here in the UK, although in another thread someone warned me off Soy! I see you have scrambled egg with veg. I rotate fresh fruit and yogurt and the occasional gluten-free cereal or bread as a treat, but omelettes are my go to breakfast food...
  6. Thank you for getting through it! I'm a little embarrassed frankly by the amount I wrote. I knew it was self indulgent, but a lot of it I'd repressed and never really discussed with anyone, so I needed to get it out all in one place for my own peace of mind. They're some of the pieces of the 'jigsaw puzzle' which I started to put together as I realised not...
  7. James I don't think they would put you under for an endoscopy. Here in the UK they don't anyway, although you can have a calming sedative if you choose. I didn't, although I think I probably would if I had another. Best of luck with finding an answer.
  8. Thank you for such an uplifting post. Your positive attitude and determination are inspiring, something I'd forgotten that this board was full of. Best wishes for your continued recovery.
  9. I don't have any knowledge of this, hadn't heard that but your post was interesting to me. We spend a third of our lives in bed, could you do some work on proofing your bedroom, maybe net curtains or screens on the windows would reduce any particle exposure? Maybe try something like this: Open Original Shared Link This lady uses a mask at the...
  10. That's some good advice. Thank you It's helpful to think of continuing to recover and you are spot on in that I feel like I have to get to know myself again free of the mental cloud and constant ailments. I tend towards the introspective and looking at things negatively. I know I need to change my perspective, sometimes knowing and doing aren't...
  11. Note: This is a very long and given the current state of our world an almost wickedly self indulgent post. It's purpose is to set out how gluten intolerance symptoms has effected my life and the subsequent psychological impact of discovering it's existence and true extent. In doing so, I selfishly hope to clarify my own thoughts and emotions, but I hope...
  12. 18 months on, a belated follow-up! Your support and reading other accounts was very useful to me. So here's what I've learned, I hope it's of use to others. The Gastroenterologist informed me the endoscopy had revealed a hiatus hernia but the 4 biopsies hadn't shown coeliac. Coupled with the previous negative blood test he ruled out coeliac, but given...
  13. I'm continuing the challenge until I see the consultant for a follow-up, hopefully within 2-3 weeks, so that I could have another blood test. By then I'll have been back on gluten for 9 weeks. I think I'd like as comprehensive a blood test as possible at that point regardless of what the biopsy says.
  14. Hello again Today I had my endoscopy. I chose not to have sedation, just the throat spray. I thought that I'd be happily watching the screen and taking a tour of my upper intestine, but after about 30 seconds I settled for closing my eyes and focussing on breathing! It wasn't a pleasant experience by any means, but it was at least brief (although it...
  15. Thank you I've kept a daily record of what I've eaten and any symptoms I've noticed. It's helpful, gives me a sense of control and otherwise I think I'd forget some of the weirder things I notice, especially as the fog descends!
  16. Further in to the challenge I'm finding the neurological stuff much worse than any gastro effects. On the evidence of a cross contamination glutening I experienced whilst on the gluten-free diet I thought I'd be in a lot more stomach pain, but I think that once fully back on gluten that's not the way my intolerance manifests. Depression and brain fog are...
  17. Totally understand and your choice. However, be aware that should you subsequently decide that you'd like a firm diagnosis it may be much more difficult and painful to obtain. This is the situation I've found myself in and I really wish I'd had the tests before giving up gluten. If you read around enough you'll see that same viewpoint made many times here...
  18. This is what I wish someone had told me at round about your age, maybe a little earlier. Doctors earn their status but they're not infallible and no GP can know everything about every condition, it's impossible. They are all under time / cost pressures and however well meaning will naturally want to progress your case and move on to the next as quickly...
  19. 10 days in, today I found dizziness on standing had returned along with a white spot on my fingernail. Feeling depressed, anxious and nauseous, also worrying about potential long term damage from this exercise. On the positive side I did enjoy going out with my family and ordering some food without worrying about contamination, something I'll try to do regularly...
  20. I'm on day 10 of my challenge and this: is how I feel too. I try to look at it in a positive way, at least as it comes after the change in diet there's an explanation for it and that makes it a lot easier for me to deal with it. In the past I'd be thinking about anti depressants or counselling, now I know it's physical manifestation of my bodies...
  21. Valerie from what I've read negative biopsy notwithstanding your possibly positive for 3 or maybe 4 of the 5 criteria for celiac mentioned in the video: Signs symptoms of celiac disease Blood test Positive Biopsy DNA Positive reaction to gluten-free diet You may be one of the 20% who don't make all 5 but still have celiac. Or as others have said...
  22. Valerie I found this presentation by Dr Fassano really useful in explaining some of the complexities around this condition: It's a long watch, but if you skip to 55minutes he talks about diagnosis, including the percentages of celiac patients who do not show on the biopsy. Obviously you should speak to your Dr but it may be that with a positive blood...
  23. That explains it It's good that your dr wants to get to the bottom of this. Best of luck with the test. Hope you get some answers.
  24. Dan, your post above seems a little confusing. If your GP is planning a test for you the last thing she should be advocating is for you to go gluten free! You need to be consuming gluten for weeks prior to the test.
  25. Thank you I think I've done better this time than the 6 days I did for the blood test. Then I just leapt straight back into my old diet and within a few days I felt dreadful. This time I've been a bit more cautious and although I'm not enjoying it I'm not as bad as I was. Keeping the food diary is helping as I can start to identify some of my 'old friends...
