  1. Well said! Was it the PA that made that Dr Google remark? Disgraceful, regardless. As above Ebloom, write down advance what you want to get across. Get the test. Don't stop eating gluten till all testing is over, but after that point consider trialling gluten free even if you test negative for celiac. There are a lot of ways gluten can mess with...
  2. Hello again and thanks for clarifying where you're at with testing. As Karen says above you need to get definitive answers. You've said as much yourself: It strikes me that your where I was a few years ago. You know something's amiss, but you can't pin it down. Getting a positive diagnosis could be very helpful for you. As it stands, you could be...
  3. Good luck, remember that if you do have an intolerance, it's essential that you exclude all gluten. You can't cheat or have a little bit every so often as the immune system will respond to the smallest amount. Come back here for help if you need it.
  4. I had what I think was DH about 18 months into being gluten-free. It was an intensely itchy rash on each elbow. I reviewed my diet and stopped eating a breakfast cereal which I'd previously thought was safe, but had barley malt in it. The rash resolved. Note I didn't go to the doctors, so I can't tell you that it was DH, but it's my best guess. It wasn...
  5. You're not alone, this board is full of people who the medical establishment as let down in one way or another. Awareness of celiac is not good it seems. If it does turn out you have it you will find lots of support and shared experience here. Remember that you need to keep eating gluten throughout the diagnostic process, so don't be tempted to make...
  6. You have the antibodies, so your body is seemingly reacting to gluten. Your brother may be right, some people have damage further down the intestine than the endoscope reaches. Some on here have had capsule endoscopies to explore exactly that possibility. As to what to do, well it's up to you but I based upon your symptoms and the positive blood tests...
  7. Maybe coke / gluten-free ginger ale would replace the sugar and acidity?
  8. Open Original Shared Link has a lot of detail concerning the current understanding of NCGS. It's certainly real. It needs more research, but the positive news is that research is underway. Hopefully there will be more answers and greater understanding as that work is completed. In the meantime, don't worry about the reporting of this, it's frequently...
  9. Hi and welcome back There are others here with more experience, but I completely understand and identify with the 'wormhole' and disassociation that you cite, I've done and felt similar myself as years have gone by in a foggy daze. I know how difficult it is to think and act clearly when undergoing brain fog and anxiety. There's a lot I could write...
  10. I havent used it, not much of a baker tbh, but this one looks good: Open Original Shared Link
  11. As you say, there's no test, it's diagnosed by exclusion, so there's no metrics to check to assess compliance other than anecdotal response to symptoms. Conversely, I've not seen anything that says that NCGI can resolved or be cured either. Open Original Shared Link gives a good summation. Basically, there's not much research period! That is changing...
  12. Hi Anns and welcome Do you think that I am on the right course to see if I possibly have Celiac? Yes, it was smart of you to consider the possibility and its good that you've had the tests. Both the aneamia and bloating are symptoms, although of course they may be unrelated. Best way to find out is to check as you are doing. Can...
  13. Well HIV undermines the entire immune system as I understand it, so that would be akin to using dynamite to put out a kitchen fire! There is some work going on to try and retrain the immune system to not see gluten as a threat though: Open Original Shared Link I'm laughing as I write this imagining the conversations you could have with people as...
  14. Thanks for posting this Adrien, it's a great list and I and others will appreciate the effort and the thought behind it. I loved my time in Malaysia and I'm glad I sampled all the food I could whilst I was still on an unrestricted diet. The good thing is that, like you say, some of the nice Malay foods are still ok. As a backpacker I survived on a lot of...
  15. Hello Hanna and welcome! You've found a great site, there's lot's of support and info available here, mostly from people with far more knowledge than myself. I'm sure you'll get some useful responses. First off, don't worry. You are only just starting your healing process so you have lots of recovery ahead, it will be mainly up, but sometimes down...
  16. Thanks for those responses. Both very helpful. I can't remember how much if anything I'd had to drink on the day they took blood, but it was very hot. So that may be one explanation. I posted the same question on patient.info and got this reassuring reply: I'll go back to worrying about gluten
  17. Hi all, I don't know whether kidney disease is celiac related or not but hopefully someone here can advise. I recently had a general blood test as I'd been feeling unwell. I think I've been glutened tbh but I also felt lethargic and out of sorts. I asked for thyroid and other levels to be checked. Frustratingly they didnt run the TTG - something...
  18. That has the same name as one of my favourite beers from one of my favourite cities: Open Original Shared Link IF it tastes the same I'd be sorely tempted!
  19. A noticeable improvement within 3 days for me. Many more improvements over longer term. Suggest you keep a diary logging how you feel, what you eat and what time. If changes are gradual it can be hard to notice but looking back over the diary entries can give you an insight into just how you were feeling as your diet changed.
  20. I thought so till I saw Jalvaraz's post. Turns out there's a gluten-free version Open Original Shared Link
  21. I finally found out my gluten issues right after I left a very stressful job and could no longer function I was so ill. Symptoms had gone on for decades before, but it took a moment of stress to bring it to a head. I had anxiety gerd and the irregular heartbeat and I had a nasty bout of shingles when I was 20 which I've subsequently realised was due...
  22. The second link I gave you was to a series of online video courses, you can try those for free to see if its something you think might help. There are also a lot of worksheets you can download, the first link had some I think but there are plenty of others out there if you search online. Finally I had another look and found this: Open Original Shared Link...
  23. I definitely had more energy, I was virtually bedridden beforehand, but it also felt like something of a serotonin boost, and, bizarre as it sounds, my senses seemed heightened. I felt great and I didn't know why.
  24. Excellent. The chances are your body won't absorb some of this however so get as many good B sources in your diet as possible in addition. Get some sunshine as well, I know it does rain sometimes in Melbourne but believe me on that score you do a lot better than the poms. Try and note these positive things, it's so easy when you're down to forget...
  25. As you doubtless know now, there are so many ways celiac can present, Open Original Shared Link as I could find online. It would probably be quicker to list what isn't a factor For me personally, nausua, check, left sided back hip pain (my laymans theory here is that celiac is affecting the sciatic nerve which runs from lower back down leg) , check,...
