  1. G'day Chris and welcome to the forum. You have found what I think is the single best resource on the web for advice, support and understanding for this condition. There is so much info here it's difficult to know where to start, but that's what this thread is for, please check it out. I think I got the recommendation for 'Real life with Celiac Disease...
  2. The bloating has, if anything, got worse. It seems better when I'm lay down, when I stand it gets worse. Although the lymph swelling has gone down so maybe I'm through the worst. Hope so anyway... I never used to get a great deal of GI symptoms. Certainly not so serious as the other stuff. It's making me wonder if I just react differently now having...
  3. Yeah I did all the bone broths and sauerkraut after my challenge. Although I wasn't very good at making sauerkraut... Its summer here now so I've eased up on the bone boiling, plus my local butcher is struggling to obtain them. As you say healing to the point where microscopic cross contamination doesn't get you would be a big win. I was ok with coffee...
  4. Thanks for the kind responses Last night I went out and had a black coffee, non decaf. Big mistake... I started getting gas almost immediately and it went on for the rest of the evening. It seems like anything which might annoy my stomach at the moment results in churning and an uncomfortable feeling. the weird thing is that I ate a huge lunch...
  5. It's on the safe list here in the uk and I eat it without a problem. theres also a really nice almondy toblerone cake available now.
  6. I tested negative for milk allergy but still react. I still have processed foods that may have a little milk in them, I seem to be OK doing that, although I may have to reassess that. Primary reaction to dairy is through skin. Coconut milk is fine, I've grown to really like it.
  7. I had left sided lower back pain for many years prior to excluding gluten. I also got very severe left sided chest pains. lymph nodes under my arms and in neck were often swollen. After I excluded gluten all of the above largely resolved. I had zero clue that any of the above were food mediated or even connected. And just as an aside I am also...
  8. Welcome marycake There is lot's of support and advice available at this site but it would probably be helpful to others if you could provide a little more detail. Have you been diagnosed with celiac? Has the doctor advised you to go on a wheat free or gluten free diet? Please share a little more of your symptoms and what the doctor has said and...
  9. I think its almost two years since I finished the challenge. I haven't been doing the bone broths, home made sauerkraut, or probiotics recently. So maybe that's something I need to revisit. I thought I was healed and could now be a bit more expansive in my diet. The trifle was lovely! It was a favourite before all this and I couldn't resist it. I...
  10. Has your doctor ordered an endoscopy on the base of those results Paul?
  11. After I first went gluten free I thought that I mildly reacted to gluten-free oats, but it wasn't anything like this. I wouldn't have a problem with rice based biscuits I think, but here in the UK the majority of gluten-free biscuits are oat based. So if I do have to cut them out I'm losing a big slice of my 'treats'
  12. For the past two weeks now I've had bloating, stomach cramps, then the itchy scalp and now I've the swollen lymph nodes have returned and I'm experiencing dizzy spells and a racing heart when standing up. So now I know. Somehow the dark power of gluten has once again returned to the land. But I don't know. Despite being careful, despite rarely if ever...
  13. That's a difficult one. I know the 12 yr old me would've also cringed at the thought of mum showing up with lunch. As you say, at that age you don't want to stand out and you personally run the risk if you make too big a fuss that it becomes a bigger issue. I don't know if this of help but, having been one, I'd suggest the average group of 12 year...
  14. Was this before or after he blood test? If you were gluten free that could have affected the result? I can only say in my case within 3 days I could read in my food diary how I was improving. At the time I felt absolutely dreadful and the immediate effect was a lifting brain fog and depression. The full extent of recovery however took a lot longer...
  15. I would strongly urge you not to discount gluten as a potential cause on the basis of negative celiac tests. I tested negative for celiac blood markers and on a subsequent endoscopy, but believe you me I react extremely strongly to any gluten. Negative tests may mean you have Open Original Shared Link, basically a diagnosis for those who react favourably...
  16. I agree with Cyclinglady - an endoscopy is not risk free, even the best run hospitals can sometimes be sources of infection and if I were you I'd ask the doctor to explain their reasons for ordering one. See my post further up the page for the points I think are worrying. You have the diagnosis already, why are they casting doubt on it? I go back to...
  17. You may find this interesting re your IGA total score: Open Original Shared Link You don't mention any symptoms, is there a reason you had the blood tests?
  18. Damn, now I want a doughnut and no-one's about to take me to Funky Town
  19. i know exactly how you feel. I had various things going on from teens till 40 and it was then I had my own eureka moment? I had pots for years, dizzy on standing, once I stood up and promptly fell into a friends tv ? Its largely gone since I went gluten free, along with the chest pains, back ache, anxiety, depression, psoriasis, mouth ulcers, weird...
  20. Except, if the results are positive, or even marginal, then they may want an endo for confirmation - so do make sure that you discuss with doctor to make sure they've finished all tests first. If gluten is a problem for you its much worse removing then adding again for testing. If/when you do remove gluten you should keep a food diary, just note what...
  21. I meant that Carey should wait for the result, not just the test and if negative (and the doc is apparently opposed to endo) then go gluten-free. However you're right I phrased it badly!
  22. Aside from the gluten, eat healthily, take B supplements, fish oil and a multivitamin. My endoscopy revealed hiatus hernia but no celiac. The chest pains I've suffered for years were very intense, felt like heart attack. All stopped since gluten free. So I think whatever the results, staying away from gluten may be good decision for you. All...
  23. No reason why you should! You've been ill served by the, well meaning, medical staff it seems. Obviously you have the capsule test to come and that may be informative. I'd take the opportunity to tell your GI that you had a very positive reaction to the gluten-free diet and see what they suggest. I'd also ask them to triple check that you've not had...
  24. One potential source of confusion here. I believe that Cyrex do both stool and blood tests: Open Original Shared Link This is their wheat gluten one: I think I've read or heard similar discussions to you Carey about them, where people are saying they're more comprehensive. I've no idea whether that's true or if the 'additional' tests have any...
  25. Hi Atheresa, Take a look at this page: Open Original Shared Link It outlines not only celiac but other ways in which wheat or gluten can affect people and suggests that some can eat barley, rye etc without suffering the same effects. (Gluten is the protein within wheat. For Celiacs the protein in Rye, Barley, Spelt and Triticale are similar enough...
