  1. Hi CarieA and welcome Did you have blood tests? Normally they'd test your blood for celiac markers prior to scheduling the endoscopy. Obviously no-one here can diagnose you but the symptoms you relate are suggestive of celiac orOpen Original Shared Link. The latter is what they call people who test negative for celiac but whose symptoms react to...
  2. Hi Lucy, I know this reply is a little late but having read your account I wanted to respond. I hadn't noticed it before down here in this section! Like you I tested negative for celiac, but like you I have very definite reactions to gluten, brain fog, shakes, etc etc. I had convinced myself I was diabetic due to the mad hypoglycemic reactions to sugar...
  3. Hi and welcome As you say, all 4 of your symptoms are common in celiac, but there could be other causes. The best thing you can do is book an appointment to see a doctor and request a blood test. This will look for 'markers' in your blood, clues that your body is reacting to gluten in your diet. Be sure you have every symptom noted down before you...
  4. Obviously you need to pin that Doctor down and get a straight answer but I think genetics testing can only exclude, not diagnose: Open Original Shared Link So if it's low liklihood that sounds like it's not excluded celiac, just that you may not have the optimum pairings of genes for highest risk: Open Original Shared Link Even if the...
  5. I completely understand your eagerness to get a diagnosis and move on to getting your son well,, but are you sure that this route will provide the certainty you, your son and potentially your son's future physicians will need? You may, depending on the doctor, be able to get a celiac diagnosis but I've seen several accounts on here of people who were diagnosed...
  6. I know what you mean about food storage etc. My whole attitude to food changed and I became a lot more suspicious/paranoid about things! I'd like to think that's subsided into vigilance now, so hopefully it will for you also. You had a positive blood test and if you're not going to go ahead with the challenge perhaps you need to try and replace the support...
  7. It's good to hear you're making progress Michael and that the medicine is helping. Hopefully the blood tests will give you and your doctors some answers. In the meantime, you mention anxiety. There's a lot of advice on the web about dealing with anxiety, I quite like this one: Open Original Shared Link it's quite long but it has a lot of...
  8. Sorry you're going through it right now. Have been there. It will get better. Some ideas: Join Coeliac UK. They'll send you a book with all the gluten-free products listed both by shop and by type. This will save you a lot of time and money also because it includes the 'safe' products from the regular shelves, not just the Free from aisle. There...
  9. Hi all, Forgive the presumption. I don't have anything near the experience or knowledge base of others here, however I wonder if there's a need for an Intro post for the pre diagnostic board that could serve a similar purpose to this one: The same questions come up again and again, so this could save some time for users helping new members...
  10. Obviously there's always the option to exclude gluten independent of tests but it's a big step for a young kid. There are a lot of sacrifices to make, a lot of birthday parties etc where she will potentially miss out etc. etc. I think Adclaure has every reason to try and work on objective evidence if possible. It's the responsible course of action in my view...
  11. Disclaimer, I wasn't diagnosed, am therefore ' just gluten sensitive' but would never think of consuming a small amount of it and was told never to do so by my own GE... That said, I did run into trouble with Doctors who were ignorant of Coeliac. Like any profession there's good, bad and indifferent. I'm surprised by the new GI you describe, If...
  12. Yes my brother in law (not blood relative) is (I think) one of those people. He can happily drink a beer (or several!) but onions or similar are a real issue for him. He doesn't do well with pastry either, but I don't think gluten is the issue with him. Indeed, there are some studies suggesting ncgi is more about fodmaps: Open Original Shared Link I'd be...
  13. This was posted just before I finished typing, but on reflection Karen's quite right to suggest looking at Fodmaps before gluten. Here's a good article outlining why: Open Original Shared Link Fodmaps are not a problem for me but gluten is, so I think I may be too quick to suggest people exclude it! I'm still learning!
  14. You may yet have found a solution, test results notwithstanding. When your doctor returns they may decide the negative results are sufficient to exclude coeliac, but that doesn't mean that gluten isn't the source of your discomfort. I'm just one example of someone that tested negative, both in blood and biopsy, but who has a very strong reaction to gluten...
  15. First column is the resul of your test, the second is the 'normal' range expected, then there's some guidance on what a positive result would be. eg your IGA was 129, in the middle of the reference range 87-352. The forum sidebar graphic obscures some of the test image on my screen but all the tests look within normal ranges as per Kareng and Sugarcube...
  16. Welcome! You have found a very supportive site. No-one here can diagnose you obviously, but I think you need that test conducted asap. There are a great many symptoms of celiac. Your Dr may not me aware of this: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Printing out one of these and ticking off which, if any apply, may...
  17. No I agree with you, it's sketchy, hence the disclaimer in the previous post. There's a couple of papers that show up via google and this was interesting: Open Original Shared Link but there's no smoking gun and given my experience I always have to guard against seeing gluten as the root of all evil. (There it is in Texas behind the grassy knoll...
  18. If you're anything like me you may find that a lot of other things clear up or improve that you would never have associated with gluten. My main symptoms were, I thought, neurological, but as my diet changed I found the backache I'd 'managed' for 20 years disappeared, eyesight issues went, chest pains etc etc. There's things you can do in advance of...
  19. Welcome! You've found a great community, there's a lot of useful info and support here from people who have been through very similar experiences to your own. I hope you find it as useful as I have. Congratulations for sticking up for yourself and finally making some progress with the medical establishment. It's not easy. I know others here...
  20. No I don't believe so, perhaps quite the reverse. I nearly said this on the other thread we talked on, when you mentioned how delighted you were you could eat wheat protein. Google gluten opiod and have a quick look here and elsewhere about the odd ways gluten can interact with the brain... Disclaimer: speculation follows... I think for some of...
  21. No sadly, that's to say they may, but they may not. Everyone is different. You'd be risking a false positive or negative. Can't add anything to CL's post above other than to say that's the info that myself and virtually everyone else that self excluded prior to testing wishes they'd known... No-one here can diagnose you but it sounds very much like your...
  22. I did the challenge and had a negative biopsy. Digestive issues aren't my biggest immediate gluten symptom, but they did start pretty soon (within 2-3 hours from memory) after the challenge began. I've never noticed a reaction to a new protein like that, but I can't say I ever used to notice such things until I became more aware of my body and my digestion...
  23. If the tests come back negative and the doctors have finished any celiac diagnosis then your son can still give the gluten free diet a try. I test negative on blood and endoscopy, but I still had a positive reaction to going gluten free with the lifting or easing of multiple symptoms. He shouldn't cut gluten out however until the diagnostic process is done...
  24. As CyclingLady says above it's ultimately a decision only you can make. I went through a gluten challenge and ended up with a negative biopsy, but I don't regret going through with it, even though I felt crappy during it and I already knew that once concluded I'd be off gluten simply based on it's effects on me. Although the gluten-free diet is the...
  25. One thing which surprised me when I first started to research coeliac and gluten enteropathy was how much was still uncertain. Anyone here will know full well how the gut can affect the whole body, these scientists have found a novel way of finding some answers: Open Original Shared Link
