  1. I'm not super sensitive so the following may not be of much use! I do suffer from depression however and one thing which can help is taking action, not just the action itself but the feeling that you are making positive steps. So, you could change travel plans to avoid the wheat fields during harvesting and if you cant do that get a dustmask for the car so...

    ARCHIVED Jail/prison

This got me wondering what the UK prison approach was. Not so good it appears: https://www.celiac.com/articles/23379/1/UK-Prisoner-Simon-Benson-Hangs-Self-in-Gluten-free-Food-Row/Page1.html The subsequent enquiry ruled he should've been given the diet.
  3. You get to play celiac bingo now Just try googling celiac and exfoliative cheilitis and you'll start to find others who were in the same boat. I was getting joint pains which have now mostly cleared up and I was very prone to excessive mucus. I remember being really embarassed once in a very high level meeting due to my persistent and horribly mucus driven...
  4. I had rheumatic aches which have gone since my diet change. It sound like yours isn't improving so maybe you should follow that one up with the specialist in Feb. I think you have to be careful that in automatically suspecting gluten you don't miss something else. The only snag is that you may be paying for a needless consult. I guess you've time between...
  5. Have you come across the idea of healing your gut via diet? Open Original Shared Link
  6. If you're not already start taking a good multi vitamin and it won't help reduce symptoms but you could use this time to savour any gluten filled foods you enjoy. Good luck!
  7. Thanks, I'll do that That's a really good idea. Something like: My test results are back, what do they mean? Ask your doctor for a print out of the test results. This should include both the reading from your blood as well as an indication of what a 'normal' result would be within a range. Usually a figure will be given and any reading over...
  8. Hi Emma and welcome I can't say I opted out of the biopsy, I was actually delighted when the GI put me forward for it because I was desperate for answers and the biopsy is considered the gold standard when diagnosing celiac. For your doctors, its the logical next step after positive blood work. However there is a slight risk, the procedure itself can...
  9. You're most welcome Being gluten free takes a bit of practice. Remember to check ingredients, gluten is in a LOT of things which you wouldn't expect. Be wary of contamination from pots and pans, wooden cooking utensils etc. Try and eat fresh food rather than processed. Keep a food diary also!
  10. If you've not been eating gluten consistently in the weeks prior to the test you could get a false negative. You need to be eating gluten every day for 6-8 weeks prior to the blood test. Gluten sensitivity isn't universally recognised, but it is real. It's diagnosed when a patient tests negative for celiac antibodies but reacts to the gluten free diet...
  11. Cider should be gluten free. Never hurts to check if it's an unfamiliar brand, but unless it's been flavoured with something with gluten or its one of those faux ciders which are really ales eg: Open Original Shared Link you should be ok

    ARCHIVED Anxiety?

I know what is like to be sat in a hospital thinking you may have just had a heart attack. I had horrible chest pains for years, each time I thought it may be my last. I had a full heart checkout and it was ok, the cardiologist said try not to worry... It's not easy and a certain amount of anxiety is natural on those occasions. My pain has mostly gone...
  13. Hi vita1 and welcome I agree with fundog, testing is worthwhile, even though there is no treatment other than the gluten free diet, there are many good reasons for finding out if you have celiac. There are some links and further info here which may prove useful: Part of me wants you to go back on gluten right now, as he longer you are off...
  14. Absolutely, somewhere on pubmed there's a paper detailing how airborne gluten irritates the sensitive cloud layers producing the same endless downpour of a reaction that I'm currently experiencing sat in a caravan in north Wales. Meanwhile, in tin hat land, an alternative hypothesis is forming, that gluten sensitivity itself causes rain, flooding, the loss...
  15. I know you've tested negative for Celiac, but have you given the gluten free diet a try anyway? I tested negative, but my skin improved markedly once gluten-free. The other big dietary influence on skin for me at least is dairy. Keeping a food diary and excluding those may help you exclude them as factors?
  16. Ah my mistake thanks. In the UK our medical establishment says that on diagnosis close relatives should be considered for screening. It's not automatic as such and I'm not sure if the approach is the same elsewhere. I'll amend the text, but may need a mods help, I think there may be a time limit on editing posts.
  17. Hi and welcome Many, myself included, have had similar experiences. It's very common for people to eliminate gluten as a trial, to then discover their health improves and then when they try to get a concrete diagnosis they test negative. Is it celiac? Only a doctor can diagnose that, but your hashimotos automatically increases the chances you have...
  18. I had the hypclycaemia episodes, palpitations and blood pressure issues also. All much better after going gluten free, but I also try and eat to control blood sugar spiking as much as possible*. I know you say you eat frequently, but are you eating low GI foods which take longer to convert to sugar? I try and get protein with every meal also. ...
  19. Another Brit here. As above, I've found this a fantastic site for both information and support. I've learned a lot about odd symptoms which I would never have thought to attribute to gluten from here. It's so helpful because even now I find it bizarre that I could've spent so long, with so many different symptoms without realising they were in any way related...
  20. Oh and one other thing. Although $2000 is a pain in the arse and going through tests even more so: It told them, and you, that you didn't have a problem with each of those systems. It excluded them and in doing so may have brought you closer to the truth. A lot of diagnosis is done through exclusion and that's one more reason to follow through properly...
  21. Hi and welcome No-one here can diagnose you of course but your list of symptoms matches many of those I experienced, most of which resolved or significantly improved on a gluten free diet. If I had to bet I'd say you're on the right track. If so, congratulations on figuring out something which took me a whole lot longer! Having been in your shoes...
  22. Hi, I started this topic awhile ago but don't know if it's of use/needed. I wondered if the mods or admin would take a look and see if it, or something similar, might be useful? Thanks Matt
  23. I wouldn't want to write anything that will stop you pursuing definitive answers, that's really important. As above, your problems may not be celiac. However, if your doctors have ruled out Celiac you have nothing to lose, and potentially much to gain, from trialling the gluten free diet. This: was exactly my reaction after my negative biopsy...
  24. The sick, but not quite sick enough, state is a good definition of the trap that a lot of us fall into. I wound up living with various symptoms because in and of themselves they didn't seem severe enough to seek help, although my reluctance was in part due to the brain fog and depression which came along with it. I also had mysterious pimples every so...
  25. That sucks Sorry you're having to cope with such a restricted diet. When I make a shake I use coconut milk. Not sure if that would be allowed on your current diet, but it makes a really nice smoothie base I mix with Spinach, Ginger, Cinnamon and a banana, I think the ripe bananas are ok on fodmap diet?
