  1. Hi Claire and welcome It's quite common for celiacs to also suffer from lactose intolerance. https://www.coeliac.org.uk/coeliac-disease/associated-conditions-and-complications/lactose-intolerance/ After healing on the gluten free diet many can reintroduce lactose at a later date once the villi have recovered and begin to produce lactase...
  2. Have you read this? Open Original Shared Link It could be what you're going through?
  3. I've not been doing it either, but I've just read the BBC research and have resolved to do it in future! I like rice and have the coconut milk which is rice based too. So I'm probably as at risk as anyone... You need 5:1 water and pre and post rinsing as well as the soaking. This blogger has collected the advice: Open Original Shared Link
  4. Well said! I can't help with advice, but I and many others are wishing you well Jm34, hope that things pick up for you.
  5. Arsenic levels in rice are currently a topic over here. One tip is to pre soak your rice before cooking, that can apparently remove up to 80% of the arsenic.
  6. Ok, please disregard my previous remarks on this, From Cristiana's post above it sounds like it could be just what you need.
  7. Hi Jherm I think you may be looking for someone to say you don't have celiacs: But all of these: are irrelevant to a celiac diagnosis. Whereas this: is very common to celiacs, in recent years its become apparent that those for whom GI issues predominate may be in a minority. No-one here can answer that but the person...
  8. Cara I was prescribed amitriptilyne many years ago for depression. It's a tricyclic, quite an old class of drug as anti depressants go and it can hit quite hard - I think I was given it because I mentioned problems sleeping. I don't want to tell you not to follow your gastro's advice, it seems to have some effect on migraine: Open Original Shared Link but...
  9. Forget them, have a kitkat chunky! In a week's time it may all be verboten so if you have any favourite gluten filled foods, now's your chance! Joking aside, if you've had the endoscopy and the bloods have been taken you no longer need to 'load up' but you shouldn't eliminate it entirely until the consultant has either diagnosed or excluded it in case...
  10. Welcome It's very nice to read your post. I've been here awhile now but I'm still very thankful to have found this place and for the support and information I've received here. Hopefully you can still enjoy gluten free pasta. I made myself a pasta sauce a couple of days ago and loved it, can't really tell the difference any more from how pasta...
  11. Hi Cara and welcome to the forum You've found a great place, whether you turn out to have coeliac or not! There are lots of people here who have been through similar situations and come through the other side. Lot's of good info to be found and support as well. The test for coeliac is first to test your blood for markers, then, if that's positive...
  12. I'm happy with my hairy legs :P There are others here who are better placed to tell you just how gluten can interact with thyroid etc. I'd spent years not really understanding why I got so cold that I habitually wore two pairs of socks etc. Likewise with the palpitations and chest pains I had numerous ecg's, wore trace monitors and had a echocardiogram...
  13. I completely understand, but even so I suggest that in the event of a negative celiac diagnosis you at least trial the gluten-free diet. You may be one of those people that test negative but still react to gluten. For me for example eliminating gluten stopped the palpitations, thyroid issues, anxiety etc. If only my hair had grown back too... If it's...
  14. Hi and welcome I think you may be in the UK? If so, the free from sections of larger Tesco's and other supermarkets often stock this: Open Original Shared Link Definitely don't go for the regular ones. I reacted to barley malt in a brand of cornflakes despite them being previously declared safe by coeliac UK. Have you joined Coeliac UK...
  15. Welcome B&S I can only wish you good luck on your search for a doctor. On this: I don't think you should worry too much. Reading this site it's clear that people differ in their sensitivities. I have neuro symptoms that have abated after following a gluten-free diet despite living in a shared kitchen. The tips in the newbie thread regarding...

  17. Hi Celina, Welcome to the forum! This site has loads of info and a lot very knowledgeable folks who have been through very similar experienced. So you've not only found a great resource, but hopefully you won't feel so alone in this also. There's a lot in your post I identified with: I also went through coeliac testing and wound up with...
  18. I like Costco but am in uk so our Costco products may differ, but I've found coconut flour, gf 'chips' pasta and more. There was a brownie mix which was pretty good if like me your a bit lazy when it comes to baking. The lines seem to vary here so you need to get it before it's gone. In the refrigerated sections there are some nice falafel and spicy...
  19. Ok, most important, neither I nor anyone else here can tell you if you have true celiac or not: and whether its IGE histameine celiac whatever doesn't negate that its unpleasant for you and worrying etc. For what its worth I tested negative for celiac, that doesn't mean I don't react badly to gluten. Only a doctor can diagnose you and that would require...
  20. Sadly the gluten challenge is the only way to establish or exclude coeliac. It's often not pleasant, I didn't enjoy mine, for some people the reaction is too severe. Your reaction to gluten is maybe more suggestive of a wheat or gluten allergy - sneezing etc is an IGE histamine reaction, the classic coeliac response takes longer to manifest. It...
  21. Gerald it's exhausting enough to read that, so I can only imagine how you feel. I sincerely hope that you can get some relief from all of this. As I finished reading Kareng's reply above appeared and I have to agree with her. You've seemingly had a combination of western and alternative medicine and have also been exposed to so many different and conflicting...
  22. I'm glad you posted this. It's good to read accounts of others taking charge of their diet and it's a bit of an inspiration too. I gave / vastly reduced sugar in my diet maybe 10 years ago, before I learned of my gluten problem. I'd read a book called potatoes not Prozac and followed the diet plan there. It was a revelation, I had more energy, the cravings...
  23. Please don't mention it. As I said above I've found this site invaluable, wanted to put something back and if anything I've put can be of use great! but if it's unsuitable don't worry about it.
  24. Hello again. Is removing gluten the only change you've made to your diet? If that's so, then the fact you're reacting quite strongly is very suggestive of you having an issue with gluten. A lot of people Open Original Shared Link, that could be what's happening to you. I know I experienced a lot of stomach churning and noise! The lightheaded and out...

    ARCHIVED Best apps?

Just looked, on my phone I have coeliac map (which by spelling is UK based) which lists GF food places, am sure there'll be a US equivalent if you're across the pond I also have Find me Gluten free which I've not really used, think I just installed it because it was free! Coeliac UK do an app which duplicates their safe food guide, recommended if you...
