  1. Ok, it's a little harder but it's not impossible. You need a cupboard of your own, in which to keep your gluten-free stuff, separate chopping board, sieve, pan etc. Just take them out to cook with, clean them and put them back before they can get used by the others. You need separate butter, jam etc. So an area in the fridge for your stuff is also a...
  2. Welcome There's a study which you may find interesting: Open Original Shared Link
  3. A gluten challenge is the name for reintroducing gluten to the diet in order that celiac tests can be ran. For the test to be effective the patient must be eating gluten for a significant period. If you've been gluten free for some time it's certainly a challenge!
  4. Hi and welcome There's no real way to know exactly what triggers celiac to become active. Some report it after stress, for some pregnancy seems to trigger it. For others there's no cause as such, it just develops over time. As it has a genetic component the truth is that you've always had the capacity to develop it, so I wouldn't waste any time kicking...
  5. Hello and welcome Amy, you've found a great site! Yes, that reaction could be a sign that gluten is an issue for you. I'll third what CyclingLady said above. I'm sure you're anxious to keep the diet going to see if its the source of your problems, but now is the time to get a definitive answer as to whether you're celiac or not. It's a lot harder...
  6. Hello and welcome Like IT above I wish I had some advice for you. Although it's good to hear you have a sympatetic doctor, do stay in close touch with them, at present you sound like you need to be in regular contact. I also have POTS but have found the gluten-free diet has just about resolved it. I do get occasional reminders which I put down...
  7. Hi and welcome I think you should start a new topic, the one you've replied to is a few years old and that way you'll have more people see your post and be able to offer advice. I found I lost weight when going gluten free, partly because I was eating far fewer processed foods, but also because I think I lost some inflammation. So maybe that accounts...
  8. That Daim chocolate cake is on offer in Tescos at the moment. I really like it.
  9. You might and it may... You need to decide whether you're done with testing, see SI's comments above. If you've had the full celiac panel and a negative endoscopy then you may be like me, someone that reacts to gluten but doesn't show up on the tests. NCGI is a diagnosis of exclusion, if you react positively to a gluten-free diet then once you've excluded...
  10. May help reduce load on the server?
  11. I don't think Chris Kresser is a doctor mate. I've read his blog previously and he's often got some interesting content, but as far as I'm aware he's not qualified to give medical advice. I don't want to seem pedantic, because I respect the efforts you put into helping others, but I think it's an important distinction!
  12. In Europe also Karen. I slipped up eating some regular cornflakes which had previously been listed as ok by coeliac UK. I developed a rash on my elbows that went once I removed them from my diet.
  13. That's the only usage I'd be interested in. I don't want something to allow me to eat gluten, the thought of it turns my stomach! I do like the idea however of being able to take something say whilst travelling or overseas as an extra insurance against inadvertent exposure.
  14. Welcome Just to add to Jen's excellent post above, there is research ongoing as to what causes celiac but the genetic component means that either you or your partner or both and yours or theirs or both your respective family may have the potential to develop it, or, crucially, could already have it but not connect their experience with it. Take...
  15. Just in regard to the symptoms heads experiencing, most people aren't aware of the different ways celiac can manifest, the more well my own gastro symptoms are actually in the minority. Check out this link Open Original Shared Link if if possible he should stay on gluten till the biopsy, returning to it for a challenge can be unpleasant, far more...
  16. Hi Sara. . I don't know anything about SIBO but I can tell you that after I went gluten free I started to feel like I had an entirely new stomach... It was noisy, gurgling and churning and I'd be paranoid that I'd eaten something that had inadvertently glutened me, despite me being very strictly committed to the diet. I've since discovered...
  17. It's the equivalent of a 'like' on facebook. You click the up arrow at the bottom right of a post to register a recommendation. It doesn't do anything as such other than send a notification to the author, but it's a nice way to either recognise when someone has made an effort to help or to endorse a point that someone has made. This is much easier...
  18. Search is working for me now and I can access advanced search via the eyeglass. Also chrome, Version 56.0.2924.87 win 10.
  19. Thanks for sharing, I find this research fascinating. As you say the percentage picked up by DGP is small: but at least it offers another pathway to diagnosis. Those 71 patients with positive DGP but negative biopsy may have had enough validation from the test to at least try the gluten free diet and if any of them had the same results I did...
  20. Thans for posting that, it included a link to this article from Kevin Seplowitz which Scott published on this site: https://www.celiac.com/articles/798/1/A-Word-on-Gluten-and-Beer/Page1.html It's over 10 yrs old so things may have changed but it makes interesting reading:

    ARCHIVED DH no celiac

    Are you gluten free razzle?
  22. Probably a side issue given the seriousness of your symptoms but have you tried a course of probiotics? If you've had strong antibiotics they may have killed off the good bacteria in your gut. Replacing them may give your digestion a boost and it sounds like it needs that? There's over the counter solutions as well as the option of making your own kefir or...
  23. Sounds great. Consider joining coeliacs UK, they produce an annual guide book with listings from all the major supermarkets which is also available via a mobile app. It would be worth it for you, at least for the one year whilst you're getting to grips with the diet. Cristiana and I have been sharing some UK treats here: you can also have crunchie...
  24. Welcome Bria It does and it will! Over time you build up a list of trusted products and brands and get to know which shops are worth checking out, or which food outlets have a trusted go to snack. You learn to keep some safe snacks to hand, I keep some in my car, in a bag in case I travel somewhere etc. I try and cook fresh wherever...
  25. Welcome to the forum! ? You may not get a response from the original poster as it was 5 years ago. But I hope you find this site as helpful as I have. All the best...
