ARCHIVED Weak Positive
Jmg replied to Lee Nass's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think Lee's doctor has the right approach. He can't diagnose celiac, but he's aware that he's not excluded it either and he already has his patient's testimony that the gluten free diet helped him. I know the diet can be restrictive but given the flaws in each of the sero tests and the chances the endo misses something I think far more doctors should be... -
ARCHIVED Finding a Living parnter with a speical diet.
Jmg replied to Ennis-TX's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Good for you Ennis. I hope you find someone to appreciate your creativity when it comes to food preparation. I've been on my own for some time now. I don't know if I want to subject someone else to the paranoia of ordering food etc. It's lonely at times but I've gotten used to it a lot more now. -
I followed Open Original Shared Link years ago and I think there's value in her approach. Don't be put off by the addiction stuff, whether you buy into that or not there's some good advice in the diet section. You do have to be wary of how sugar sneaks into your diet and the danger of replacing one sugar with another. Most of all you have to guard...

ARCHIVED Dont get mad, but whats the big deal about 20 PPM?
Jmg replied to Washingtonmama's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Pretty much. It gets complicated because for some of us it's not just a digestive issue. Gluten messes me with in many ways, of which the digestive is very much a minor player. The neurological aspects are worse for me and they take a lot longer to go. I get depression, brain fog, anxiety, eye issues, nerve stuff etc. I get back pain, chest pain, skin rashes... -
ARCHIVED Weak Positive
Jmg replied to Lee Nass's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your doctor now has the positive serology results but no validation via endoscopy. So he can't definitively say you have celiac right now, but the combination of positive bloodwork and your reaction to the gluten free diet is strongly suggestive that you're either: celiac but the damage to the intestine was not caught by the endoscopy or maybe developing... -
ARCHIVED Glutten challenge
Jmg replied to Theri's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease

ARCHIVED Help!
Jmg replied to Caitlinwats's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome Caitlin did your report have ranges listed on it? Post them if it did as different labs have different formats. if your concerned about the endo you could have anaesthetic, most who do this say it's not a problem Try not to worry, easier said than done I know, but you are on a positive path, getting answers and if it's celiac you have... -
Hi again Barry, I've answered in your other thread but just on this: it just would never occur to me. I wouldn't enjoy it. Sure the taste may be ok but the knowledge of what was to come would render the entire experience deeply unpleasant. I can just about understand how you may do this if your only symptoms were some indigestion constipation...

Hi Barry, One question occurred : Did you undergo celiac testing and have a doctor exclude it via a full blood panel and / or endoscopy, or was this something you did yourself? If the latter then: all of your symptoms and conditions may actually be one condition. Which would fit with you saying that the only thing which worked was...

ARCHIVED New to diet and not dealing well
Jmg replied to EasterLily's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome EasterLilly To second gluten-free's words above, this: is very annoying to read! I'm sure your doctor means well, but the time to try gluten free is after testing is complete not before. 3 days in means you should still be ok to get tested if you go back on to gluten. You mention a blood panel, is it possible you've already had... -

ARCHIVED Is 3D Printing the Future of Gluten-free Food?
Jmg replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
That's truly fascinating, thanks for posting. I followed the link and found these guys: Some of the gluten free products I've tried already taste as if they've been printed on cardboard mind you... -
ARCHIVED Let's talk Gluten Free Depression...
Jmg replied to Mermaid's Mom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There is such a thing as gluten withdrawal and in any case the first few months gluten free are often a bit of a rollercoaster with uneven healing, setbacks, reglutenings etc. So some turbulence could be expected. That said, It's of course impossible from outside to know how much of this is mediated by celiac / gluten intolerance and how much by other... -
Good idea Ennis I will just add that mental health can be overlooked but that journals can help just as much as they can for physical symptoms, in fact I'd argue they're even more important. Quite often when people are discussing keeping a food journal they're referencing digestive issues, but I found keeping a journal most valuable for tracking my mental...

ARCHIVED Who knew?!?
Jmg replied to Mermaid's Mom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Absolutely, that's exactly the right term. I'd go so far as to say my life divides between the period before I realised and afterwards, because once I had an explanation, so many things fell into place. I had to make myself stop telling every random person I spoke to about the dangers of gluten -
ARCHIVED Lost! CC Confusion!
Jmg replied to JesLin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hello and welcome It's all overwhelming at first, but it's very early days for you. Usually in the period just after diagnosis most people are damaged so it's a good idea to spend 6 months eating whole foods and minimising eating out. That gives your body the chance to start repairing any damage. The good news is you're likely to feel better than you... -
ARCHIVED Whats the endoscopy like?
Jmg replied to KathleenH's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Here in the UK I was offered a choice, light sedation or nothing more than a spray for the throat. I went with the latter so that I could drive myself home afterwards. -
ARCHIVED Celiac symptoms ?
Jmg replied to Robroc's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Rob and welcome You have found a good site with a supportive community! Celiac can be difficult to diagnose because it can affect Open Original Shared Link in the body. There are links to further info and some hopefully useful answers to common questions in this topic: That said, I tested negative for celiac via blood and endoscopy but some... -
ARCHIVED Probiotics / Vitamins
Jmg replied to Fbmb's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi I take a big B vitamin which I get from Costco. Don't have the pack to hand but I think its their own brand one. Its gluten-free. I also take omega 3 fish oil and currently Vit d and calcium. I sometimes take Pharmaton which is a multivitamin, may not be available where you are. My probiotics are holland and barrett, uk brand so probably no use... -
ARCHIVED Testing and biopsy
Jmg replied to KathleenH's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome Kathleen You will probably get some instant feedback on what they've seen with the naked eye, I got a sheet with the initial observations of the person that did the endoscopy, but the analysis of the villi happened later in the lab via the biopsies taken. So you'll have to wait till you speak to your GI before you get the full picture. ... -
New To This! Any Celiacs/gluten Free In Uk?
Jmg replied to Emma-jane88's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Never been there but just looked at their gluten free menu online and am impressed. I tend to make my own burgers now and cook them separately when bbq season arrives. There's a Gourmet Burger not too far away however so I will give them a try. Funnily enough although I'm probably coming over all: its actually savoury things which I miss more... -
ARCHIVED Anxiety
Jmg replied to 5143Betty's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
One suggestion. Write a short note detailing your symptoms, familial history and your reaction to the gluten free diet. It's so easy when speaking to the dr to either forget to mention something or waffle too much so they lose interest. I found some short bullet points helped keep me focused and ensured I didn't miss anything important. you can also... -
New To This! Any Celiacs/gluten Free In Uk?
Jmg replied to Emma-jane88's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Ah to hell with it. Most of the time these days I'm super good. I have so few vices now. I don't drink, smoke, explore the cosmic depths within my soul via chemical enhancements or eat fast food. God I'm boring. The way I look at it the odd frozen gateaux or cheesecake is owed to me for all this forbearance. Besides we have an excuse for slipping... -
ARCHIVED Sharing to help those with Iron deficiency!
Jmg replied to Mermaid's Mom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That's a cute way of upping her iron intake You can get a similar affect by cooking with cast iron pots: Open Original Shared Link so you could look for a couple of those if the fish ever swims off
