I'm away from my phone but will reply later on apps. For recipes you should be fine on paleo sites, that diet is gluten free and there's loads of recipes available online. The BBC site is good: Open Original Shared Link Select 'special' on right side of page and 'gluten free' to filter the results. Epicurious also has loads of recipes...

ARCHIVED Gestational diabetes link to celiacs disease in children
Jmg replied to Manda7891's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I had a quick google out of curiosity and found this study: Open Original Shared Link RESULTS: We identified 650 children with celiac disease and 107,828 controls in the MoBa database. We found no association between birth weight or height with celiac disease (born small for gestational age was not associated). Celiac disease was not associated... -
Is the foot pain worse in the morning? It could be Plantar Fasciitis and, drum roll, peal of trumpets.... there may be a link to gluten. The reason I know this is because I've been having a sore right foot on waking for a few days now and weirdly enough was coming on here to see if there was any connection as I think I've recently been glutened. Sure enough...

ARCHIVED anxiety, celiac, problems, doctors, i'm lost
Jmg replied to Jm34's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It's easy to make your own. You just need some beef bones. Put them in baking tray and add a little water. Roast them for hr or so at a high heat then put them in a slow cooker for as long as you can manage up to 2 days. You can add whatever vegetables you like: Open Original Shared Link I add some cider vinegar but you may want to avoid that... -
ARCHIVED Embarrassed
Jmg replied to Poodle<3's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My family have been very supportive but even then there's a big understanding gap to breach and the commonly held stereotype of the 'fussy eater' 'first world problems' type to overcome. To put it another way, most people don't know what gluten actually is, but they have seen comedians lampooning gluten eaters as either delusional or attention seeking: ... -
ARCHIVED Having a flake out
Jmg replied to kam00096's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yeah me too, I'm doing better than you but am getting some signs of cross contamination or some other slippage of the diet and have been given the same excellent advice that makes a lot of sense but, meh I don't want to! *Stamps feet, throws toys out of pram Hope you get some relief soon. -
ARCHIVED Suggestion - FAQ / Intro post for the diagnosis board? - input requested
Jmg replied to Jmg's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks Admin Every board update usually has a casualty or two, if you just lost an FAQ thread you got off lightly! I hope at some point you can get a reference to NCGS into there, a lot of people who may benefit from a gluten free diet don't try it after a negative celiac test. Anyway, keep up the good work. ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerance , Possible Autoimmunity & Pain
Jmg replied to MarieH33's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Marie I wrote this in another thread: Some people, such as myself, have what's currently termed 'Non celiac gluten sensitivity' - this is less well understood than Celiac and is to some extent a diagnosis of exclusion, once celiac is excluded then those patients who demonstrate a reaction to the gluten free diet may be deemed NCGS. One researcher... -
ARCHIVED Suggestion - FAQ / Intro post for the diagnosis board? - input requested
Jmg replied to Jmg's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
hopefully an improved draft --- Welcome! If you've yet to be diagnosed but suspect that Celiac or gluten may be a problem this section is for you. We'll do our best to answer any question you have, just start a topic and introduce yourself, but before you post please take a look at the following answers and links to see if they help answer... -
Hi. i used to love travelling through France and eating in the small towns and villages. Haven't tried it since the new diet however and so I can't be much help. When I backpacked there on a tiny budget I used to go to the small supermarkets and live on homemade sandwiches. This guide shows some of the gluten-free brands: Open Original Shared Link So...

That was the heart of what I was trying to say CL - I just witter on a bit sometimes... I am feeling grouchy now, whether I can blame that on a crumb or just my crumby attitude I'm yet to decide. Tonight I wandered the supermarket resenting all the stuff I can't have and the people that can. I think I need a hobby or something. Or a lottery win...

ARCHIVED Having a flake out
Jmg replied to kam00096's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I know how you feel. I had a 'moment' in the supermarket tonight. I'm fed up of reading labels or reaching for something then putting it back. I feel like a different species sometimes, living amongst them but not of them Again, if its any comfort I had swollen lymph nodes for years, under arms or neck usually. I sweated like a pig, used to ruin shirts... -
This has got me thinking as well. I've moved away from only having the things in the book to sometimes looking at ingredients lists in general and if there's no 'made in factory with wheat' warning I've been having it. I thought I was getting over the worst of the paranoia and getting better at managing my diet but maybe I've become complacent and I'll have...

Ahhh....... You know that's my kryptonite. After almost religiously eliminating it from my diet and feeling good its slipped back in. Marshmallows, chocolate, cake etc. Maybe I need to get all Calvinist on the cookies. Yes I've been a bit blase about the supplements recently as well... More good advice Thanks! I'll punish myself tomorrow...

Wow I didnt know that. Here in the UK their fries and hashbrowns are safe, it's one of the few high st fast food options that remain to me so it's a good emergency food: Open Original Shared Link

It's good advice and I'm grateful for it. I'm just depressed at the thought of stripping the variety out of my diet again. I think this time its cross contamination - because most of the symptoms are quite mild compared to what they've been before...

Well I considered it but I finally came to terms with not having definitive answers and decided to get on with getting on. I said my piece above about the cost / benefit to continued research and getting some help in coming to terms with the psychological impact. I think that's an area that would give you a much greater boost but that's your call. All the...

Sorry, I'm a frustrated writer can't help myself. Anyway, thanks for wading through it and for going back 3 more times to decipher my ramblings. There should be some sort of medal I do use cooking foil where possible and don't use jars etc. The fridge handles thing is both very clever and somewhat scary. I just don't have this level of attention to...

Yesterday an old friend showed up unexpectedly. I call him Eye twitch but that's just a joke between us as he actually yanks the muscle just under my eye. It's his way of saying hi, personally I'd prefer a phone call but we can't have it all. He's not the only one of the group to show up, Backpain has also made an unwelcome appearance. Old BP invited...

ARCHIVED Numbness & Tingling
Jmg replied to CristinaH's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Funnily enough my eye twitch, a muscle just below my right eye started again yesterday which along with some other stuff is making me think I've slipped up somewere on the diet. Anyway, lot's of good advice above. One suggestion. Try writing down in advance of your doctor's visit exactly what you're experiencing and what you want - exclusion of celiac... -
ARCHIVED Getting Confused! RePost! Results Only! What Exactly Do I Have? Yes/No?
Jmg replied to casuallythere's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Emma above has already made this point but forgive me if I repeat it as its really important. You are confusing two very different things, the physical damage to the gut which celiac can CAUSE and the immune reaction to Gluten which is inherent in the disease itself. Your right that years on the gluten-free diet can and hopefully will help heal... -
ARCHIVED Deterioration after one year - confused and worried
Jmg replied to Jammy27's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Jammy everyone above has nailed it so just wanted to post some mutual support! One suggestion. When making any changes to diet Be sure to keep a food journal, jnote everything your consume, the time and how you feel. It may be a pain but it's a really powerful tool in helping to track down things which are a problem. It helped me identify gluten in... -
ARCHIVED Help! DQ2 negative & DQ8 positive
Jmg replied to MK16's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your GI may not believe its celiac but they have failed to exclude it. You have serological (blood) markers suggestive of it and you react to the gluten free diet, plus you have one of the genes... You may be one of those people who has damage further down the intestine only detectable via capsule endoscopy, or maybe yr non celiac gluten sensitive and don... -
ARCHIVED Been Glutened and feel horrible
Jmg replied to cbochner's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I wish! As Awol says above, there's no silver bullet sadly. Maybe one of the products that are currently under development will help one day. For now, most of the strategies I've read others employing are a combination of distraction, simple easy to digest foods and comforting things like hot tea. Having said that how does gluten impact you? Some here...
