  1. Meet Gluten Man! It turns out cravings are caused by mini doughnuts in the cranium, and I think the spaghetti in my leg may be contributing to the sciatic pain. I have no opinion on wtf the broken cookie is up to however unless it's a metaphor for a crumby sex life Gluten man comes from Montana State Open Original Shared Link and there's...
  2. I get these weird grey patches on my vision. The other day it was like my entire vision was greyed out in my right eye with the exception of a small 'hole' in the right hand side, which I could see through. That was more extreme, sometimes its just a patch which is obscured. It's a freaky and frankly unpleasant experience although it never lasts too...
  3. I shall scour my local tescos and report back... On my last trip I got the last gluten-free xmas pudding and thus saved Christmas, so I'm on something of a roll, gluten free of course. I know what you mean about the oats, after I started the diet I could notice when I'd had them and thought I'd have to exclude them altogether. I did exclude almost all...
  4. Is it these by any chance? http://groceries.iceland.co.uk/cadbury-dairy-milk-christmas-chocolate-chunks-166g/p/48609 checked the ingredients, like you say look safe. I just need to wait till next Christmas. Doh!
  5. I did what many on here did, eliminated gluten myself from my diet, experienced a dramatic improvement, then went through a testing process which I'd perhaps compromised from the outset. I had a negative blood test and biopsy but the consultant told me that I should avoid gluten for life based on my reaction to the challenge. At that point I made the decision...
  6. Hi Kurt, The popular conception of celiac symptoms doesn't reflect the reality, it's such a strange condition in that it can present in so many different ways, so although you may not have the digestive issues which most will say define celiac, there's a lot of different ways where it may be affecting you. Take a look at these lists for instance: ...
  7. Oh yes. I've gradually moved more towards dark chocolate as I've got older, I like the Moser Roth from Aldi for instance: https://www.aldi.co.uk/p/63574/0 and tell myself its in some way healthier... But every so often I'll get a craving for old school British milk chocolate, cadburys, galaxy or even a raisin and biscuit yorkie. From Cadburys I still...

    ARCHIVED Overwhelmed

It gets easier and the enormity starts to become more manageable and eventually the 'new normal'. You can of course eat out and travel, it just requires a greater level of planning and research. You'll get the hang of it in time. Not unusual to get issues from gluten-free pasta etc, being gluten-free doesnt mean you're immune from stomach aches and I...
  9. Yes! You're not alone in feeling this way. The good news is that it won't always be that way. You are yet to find out just how well you can become on a gluten free diet, it may be better than you ever thought possible. Did you know that gluten can actually cause depression? So at least some of the way you're feeling at the moment could be a result of...
  10. Lots in the same boat sadly. Ignorance of this is high in UK medical establishment, certainly at GP level. I got wrong information, repeatedly...
  11. Couple of new treats for UK coeliacs and gluten-free people Gluten Free Berry Christmas Cheesecake - Tesco - I am on my 3rd already! Cheesecake how I remember it More listed here: http://glutenfreecuppatea.co.uk/2015/11/15/what-gluten-free-christmas-products-are-tesco-selling-this-year/ M&S also do a small new york cheesecake which I loved. http...
  12. Haven't been on for a little while but it's great to hear you're doing so well. Hope your remaining symptoms are also on the way out as you keep up the new diet. Good on'ya as they say down your way...
  13. Hi again For obvious reasons (I'm a bloke) I can't really help with the question and I'm sure you'll get some great advice from others on here, but please see your GP or pop into your local hospital and talk to someone there as well. The gluten challenge is unpleasant for many, but for a few it's really severe. One poster here had a particularly rough...
  14. Hi VG and welcome It's not unusual for people to react differently to gluten if they reintroduce it for a challenge. It also seems to often settle down after a few days as the body reacclimatises to gluten exposure. Keep a food diary and note what you eat, when and how you feel is my suggestion. It helped during my challenge and reading it after...
  15. For me, after 3 days I noticed an improvement, but it was by no means magic disappearance of all symptoms. You should be thinking in months for that. Where I think your GP is correct is that after 2 weeks you should hopefully see a reaction and you already have. So you know now that celiac or not, you react to gluten. Your next step should be to avoid...
  16. Welcome to the forum this is a nice thing for you to do. I think every celiac would wish for a partner as supportive. First, neither you nor he should panic. At nine months in he's hopefully got a lot more healing to do, so more improvement may be around the corner. Second, with just a few months since diagnosis, can you be quite certain that...
  17. This had reminded me of this site: http://gluteninbeer.blogspot.co.uk/ where someone is actually testing different beers to find out their gluten content. You can see from the list about halfway down the page how different beers vary. Not many craft beers amongst them though. If the chills persist meanwhile consider a leather jacket...
  18. Hi Nalazoo and welcome! I found your post fascinating. Thanks for posting it, there's a chance it could help someone else trying to put their own jigsaw together at some point in the future. For me, I had yet another 'aha' moment when you mentioned ear wax. I used to produce loads of brown wax, after gluten went it did as well. Until today I never...
  19. Hi, welcome, and Bad Kitty for drinking that beer Some beers have a higher gluten content than others. I've seen some say that they could drink a corona for instance which is lower than some. There's no way I'd do this however. There's plenty of gluten-free options available if you want a beer, or go for cider instead which is a better bet imo. ...
  20. I don't think a reputable doctor is just going to give you anti emetics, they have a duty to try and find out whats wrong first. You still have the option of doing the gluten challenge. You just need to weigh up the pros and cons and see if it's worth it to you. A positive diagnosis may help you get that endocrinology referral, although there's no guarantees...
  21. Hi Aly and welcome You may want to repost this in a new thread, that way more people will see it and can advise you. I think you would be much better off getting the celiac test now, if you stay off gluten you will need to go back on it and that can be much harder. That said, loads of your symptoms look like they could be gluten related. ...

    ARCHIVED Testing for dh?

Your scalp sounds like seborrheic dermatitis. I have that and although its better after going gluten-free its very persistent. The dermatologist recommended Nizoral shampoo for it and it does help. I think dairy has a big part to play with skin problems, for me at least.

It is normal for other intolerances to become apparent once you remove gluten. I don't know why, perhaps as the immune system is free'd from chasing gluten it finds new targets? A lot of coeliacs find they have to cut out dairy as well for example. It's certainly my number one culprit for skin issues. It also can take time for removing gluten to have...
  24. That was my story Rhian and that of many others here no doubt. I spent years on each and every anti-depressant under the sun whilst telling doctors that I thought something was physically wrong. I found out for myself in the end, so don't be afraid to back your own judgment, ultimately you are the world's leading expert on yourself But, whilst the...
