  1. Oh, well the McDonald's I've been to in the old days would cook whatever in whatever vat was empty
  2. I'm seriously tempted to look up the discrimination laws and see what they say about things like this. I'm not the type of person to sue over stupid stuff, but that was just plain rude and discriminatory to me. I was seriously livid when I left, you coulda cooked a steak extra well done on my head in a couple minutes.
  3. Karen, the only thing I asked was "I've heard y'all have a store brand section of gluten free products now, where is it at?" That was to be the extent of my discussion with the employee.
  4. Trust me when I say the complaint will not stop at the store level. What really got me was I didn't say anything about celiac, the employee brought that up. Her exact words were "you don't look sick, so don't be acting like you have celiac or something".
  5. Also a word of caution: while the fries are tested and show no measurable traces of gluten, I have never seen a McDonald's that specifically has a vat for fries only...meaning breaded chicken can be cooked in the same vat as your fries.
  6. All this Aldi's talk is making me anxious. I've had many people on here say that Aldi's is great food and prices, but the closest one to me right now is 35 miles.
  7. So I didn't realize that mega store employees had doctorate degrees. Today I went to do some shopping, and I now refuse to shop at a mega store whose name I will not mention (but I will say they have a building structure in their name) after getting told I don't have celiac cuz I just tested positive for it a month and a half ago by an employee when I asked...
  8. I agree with Colleen, don't limit your calories too much. Strength is extremely important when getting treated for cancer. If you want to try a calorie counting diet, get with your oncologist and medical team and discuss it so you don't go too low. Good luck and stay strong!
  9. So last night I went to a sports game, got really hungry and went looking all over the stadium for a gluten-free option and ended up getting some ribs from one of the concession stands. When I get back to my seat, the lady behind me asks if they are good, and I said "it's the best value I've found in a ball park, especially since I can't have most of the...
  10. Good luck with the challenge. Hopefully you will be able to at least convince your mom to talk to her doctor about it. I know I could probably never do a challenge, I spent a weekish in h*** after a minor glutening.
  11. If you're 1 out of 80ish, why can't they put the food by someone else's desk? It wouldn't be ruining it, it would just be moving where everyone puts the food.
  12. I only spend at most 2 hours in the office every day (9am-11am), so lunch time I'm on the streets. But when it comes to other things (meetings mainly), the food becomes an issue to where I have stood in the back of the meeting room to avoid it. But just let your boss know "hey, if this stuff stays around me, I'm gonna get sick and that's gonna cause a loss...
  13. I don't really have the dinner party issue. Normally when my friends want to get together and eat, it's restaurant time, or a cookout (and with my friends, they know I'm gonna want my food straight from the grill). As for church, we haven't had a meal since I got diagnosed, but I plan to do like I've always done, set up the food line and help keep it moving...
  14. Your family sounds about like mine. I struggled for years with issues (to include several things that had the doctors perplexed), and my family acted like I was faking because the doctors couldn't find a problem. Earlier this year, I walked into the ER with my blood sugar dangerously low, and was sent to a nutritionist to "learn how to keep my blood sugar...
  15. Welcome to the club, and happy early birthday! (Sorry, I cheated and looked at your profile) As for your questions: -Sugar, I have no clue how to tell the good from bad aside from maybe if you look at the ingredients and see if it says "cane sugar" (but don't quote me on that one) -Quick foods, there are several snack bars (I know nature valley has an...
  16. I plan on asking her to go get some coffee or something next time I see her, so hopefully she will see my "dorkiness" (as notme called it) as a good thing. And hopefully the whole "I can't eat a bunch of stuff cuz it has gluten" situation won't be a deal breaker
  17. (So I got glutened last week when I went to Shane's Rib Shack and ordered pulled pork, slaw, and beans off their gluten-free menu, told the cashier "NO toast, I can't have gluten". Well, she rolled her eyes (should have been a sign) and hit the "GLUTEN FREE" button on the register. I get done eating, go home, and within the hour am passed out (at 4pm). I...
  18. While it will be a pain, you do still need to eat gluten. Stopping gluten will affect any test reults. For someone who has already been off gluten, doctors will require what is called a "gluten challenge" prior to testing. For this challenge, most doctors will instruct the patient to eat the equivalent of 2-3 slices of bread a day for 8-12 weeks. With that...
  19. I don't have an Aldi's nearby. :-( But I have heard talk of possible plans to build one in my town!
  20. I just found the "find me gluten free" app, and they have a few places listed on there, to include a bakery! I would go to ruby falls, but I am going to bring some stuff to a coworker who was flown into Erlanger for their Level 1 trauma after a horrible collision.
  21. I'm going to be in Chattanooga tomorrow and am curious if anyone knows of any good gluten-free restaurants in or around Chattanooga?
  22. The cider and Fritos were left over from shopping last payday.
  23. The reason for the low nutrient foods is because my check was about $350 short, so I had to try and make it stretch as much as possible which meant cheap food. I did get some money off a pawn today and went and bought salad fixings (romaine blend lettuce, not the water only iceberg), broccoli to make broccoli Alfredo, some Sonoma veggies burgers (anxious...
  24. They can't give me more than ibuprofen. I came by myself (I love when you're standing there alone and they ask "are you alone?") and I can't have many pain meds.
  25. I had a HIDA scan a couple years ago, showed it was "hyperactive" if memory serves right
