  1. :-) Sometimes I forget, too, but you can always just type in what you've eaten.
  2. Okey dokey... The first one is called Food Allergy Detective. It was a literal godsend when my intolerance problems first started. Basically what it does is that at each meal, you check off what you are eating from a customizable list of food items. Then whenever you experience symptoms, you also check those off (from a list that is also customizable...
  3. I have two really great apps that have helped me a lot in this whole journey. Is it okay for me to recommend them here? I have no affiliation with either of them.
  4. In veggie juice (grain vinegar). I got symptoms and didn't know why until I read the label.

    ARCHIVED So Discouraged

So many kind words, and so much good advice -- thank you all! I'm better now. The gluten bogey-man has cleared my system, and I'm thankful. Your words and your kindness have really helped. I'm not alone in this. Other people understand what it's like. That helps. Right now, every time I eat it feels a little like playing Russian roulette, but I...
  6. This is my first time to post in this part of the forum. I've been gluten free for about 9 mos., and I seem to be getting more sensitive. Recently, I had seizures from cc'd cashews (made on a line that I didn't realize processed wheat). I'm extremely careful about what I eat, and I try to do everything I can to avoid cc. Yesterday, I got glutened, and...
  7. Last night I ate a bunch of cashews without realizing they were manufactured on shared equipment. Got my same old glutening symptoms, but also had something new. Just before my diagnosis, I had started having this weird symptom that felt like my brain was literally trembling. Other parts of my body also felt like they were trembling, but were not. That...
  8. Never had D either. Did have infertility, miscarriage, bloating, persistent anxiety, interstitial cystitis, depression, arthritic pain, pain and achiness all over my body, hair loss, dry skin, sores in my throat, muscle tension, pale skin, low vitamin D, gastritis, irritability, loose stool (but not D), paresthesias, swelling of fingers, asthma, allergies...
  9. I had to be on the road for several weeks recently. Amy's frozen dinners were a godsend! They have quite a variety of gluten free meals (not all are gluten free - you have to check the box), and they are carried by WalMart, Target, etc. They cost around $3.50 each. Now when I'm in a strange town and need a definitely gluten-free meal, I just find a WalMart...
  10. I used to be a bartender, so I know how much beer they get on their hands. I usually ask them if they would please wash their hands before handling my glass. At least one veggie juice I know of contains "grain vinegar." I don't know if that's really considered a problem, but I didn't realize it was in there when I drank it and got symptoms and couldn...

  12. To be honest with you, I don't really remember how it began. I think for me it was more of a gradual thing, but there were definitely times that it was so strong that I was SURE that I had a bladder infection, and didn't. By the time I changed my diet, I had been living with it at a pretty severe level for a long time. You can google IC diet to see what...
  13. It sounds like this just started for you, so it's unlikely to be interstitial cystitis unless it doesn't go away. I have IC...it's kind of like a permanent bladder infection, but with no infection. I've had it for six years, but mine is responsive to dietary changes, so I don't get symptoms anymore unless I eat something I shouldn't. I wouldn't worry...
  14. I took it on a two-day road trip. I would say that this model kept the food nice and cool, but not really COLD. I probably wouldn't use it like that over several days for foods that would spoil, but it was really great for the snack-type stuff I had. I wouldn't rely on this model to keep foods cold for a long time without being plugged in. You might...
  15. Good strategy...thank, BlessedMommy!
  16. Thanks, Laura! Yes, I'm finding it is becoming more natural for me, even in this situation. I do stick out, though. Today we all went to church together, and I had to have a chat with the pastor to determine whether their gluten-free wafers were really gluten free, or likely to be cc'd. So here we all were as a group walking back to the pastor's study together...
  17. Thanks! Basically, I'm packing a lunch at the dorm and bringing it with me to the cafeteria to eat with everyone else.
  18. True, but in this case, we're all from out of state, and everyone is eating in the cafeteria and living in a dorm together for almost three weeks. It requires a tremendous amount of preparation and thought to do gluten free in this situation -- especially because I only have access to a fridge and microwave, and have to wash any produce in the very small...
  19. My doctor was appalled that I was at 20 and said she wants me to be near 80! That sounds pretty high to me. I'm not sure what to make of it.
  20. I'm away from home for a few weeks for a training. I'm unable to eat the cafeteria food with everyone else, so I've gotten some Amy's frozen dinners and some veggies and am managing just fine, however... ... my illness makes me stand out. It is requiring special accommodations (like not being able to eat the cafeteria food), and I am (and everyone else...
  21. Lots of great answers above! I especially echo the advice about dairy, being patient, and iron levels. When I first went gluten-free, I actually got a little sicker for a brief period of time. I sneezed after eating almost anything. Previously, I had probably 100 painful lumps on my outer thighs, which eventually went away. All I can think is that my...
  22. I'm in the midst of a three week trip during which all I have access to is a fridge and a microwave. The last time I traveled I ate only gluten-free food in places recommended by my gluten-free app, but still got glutened. I didn't want to go through that again. I am SO thankful to have discovered Amy's gluten free frozen dinners!!! They are delicious...
  23. For sure, your numbers 2 and 3, BlessedMommy! I actually find myself more grateful in general than I was previously. I'm so very thankful for my good (and continually improving) health, for the thicker skin that I've developed, for all the good things I DO get to eat, and for the fact that my diet is SOOO much better than it used to be! I'm also thankful...
