ARCHIVED Endoscopy And Diagnosis. Why Or Why Not?
across replied to user001's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I spend about eight hours a week with people in nursing homes and can tell you that if I'm ever sick enough to be in a hospital or nursing home, I want to have an official diagnosis in my chart. I have a friend who is diabetic and has lost a leg to the disease, and even though they know her diagnosis, they still feed her potatoes and apple juice practically... -
ARCHIVED Gluten In Injection Medication A Problem?
across replied to abaker521's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks, Beth. Yeah, that's pretty much exactly how it's been...except for the throwing out gluten stuff. I've been gluten free for about six months now. I feel like I do spend all of my time on the computer these days trying to figure out how to get my health back. I have gotten dramatically better since being off gluten, but now after a positive blood test... -

ARCHIVED Blood Test Just Above Normal Cut Off - Follow Up Or Fine?
across replied to tri-gal's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My circumstances are almost exactly those of your husband. Weak positive DGB IgA, everything else normal. I had been gluten free for six months, with a three week lapse due to some plumbing issues making it difficult to cook. Doc said I didn't need to be eating gluten before the test. Doc said the results were not celiac, but gluten sensitivity, and planned... -
ARCHIVED "internal Shaking" And Hand Trembling
across replied to flutterby's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I realize this is an old thread, but I just want to say that I get this, too! It's a terrible feeling! I had it last night. I was trying to figure out how I could have gotten glutened, and the only thing I could come up with is that we just had a whole bunch of drywall work done in our house, and there is a lot of drywall dust around (which apparently contains... -
ARCHIVED Is This A Huge Issue?
across replied to Waitingindreams's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
What you said about the residents being organized to serve the institution's needs rather than the other way around is quite often true, sadly. I'm thinking about getting a medical id bracelet with my gluten sensitivity status on it just in case I'm in a car wreck or something and can't speak for myself. We don't often think about those kinds of things... -
ARCHIVED Gluten In Injection Medication A Problem?
across replied to abaker521's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for the link, Karen. I'm sorry for my ignorance. I'm new to all this and it has been a lot to absorb over the past week or so since my journey with all of this started. I have actually read a lot from the University of Chicago over the past week, and honestly, have been a bit overwhelmed. My question wasn't really an attempt to challenge you so... -

ARCHIVED Is This A Huge Issue?
across replied to Waitingindreams's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had a positive DGP IgA blood test (even after being gluten free for six months), and my doctor diagnosed me as NCGS - in spite of the positive blood test and a dramatic reaction to going gluten free and then reintroducing gluten. I'm planning to have the endoscopy because if I have celiac, I want an official diagnosis, and I don't know any other way to... -
ARCHIVED Annoying Buzzing Sensation
across posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Anyone ever have a buzzing sensation in their abdomen? I've had this for about six years now, and it drives me nuts! It feels like a cell phone on vibrate that is buzzing continually in my abdomen. It keeps me awake at night pretty often. Occasionally, the buzzing sensation will extend down my left leg to my foot. After six months off gluten, this finally... -
ARCHIVED Gluten In Injection Medication A Problem?
across replied to abaker521's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Are you sure it has to get into the digestive tract to cause problems? My understanding was that the problem doesn't come from the gluten itself passing through the digestive tract. Rather, with autoimmune disease the body overreacts to the presence of gluten in the body and attacks itself (in this case, the colon) as a response. But I'm no doc, so please... -
ARCHIVED Communion Bread

We have gluten free wafers, but there are still cross contamination issues which we haven't quite figured out how to solve yet. The pastor distributes the wafers, and he already has gluten on his hands because of having broken the large wafer as part of the liturgy. There are other cross contamination issues besides that, and we're still trying to figure... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cat Food
across replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I read or heard somewhere that tuna is not really good for cats. I recall that it was a vet that was saying/writing this, but I don't recall the reason. He/she suggested that instead of feeding them the tuna, it was better to just give them some of the water that the tuna is packed in. I still give my kitties tuna, but I try to limit the amounts. -
Thanks, all, for your replies! I'm testing my theory right now that it may be related to my new bottle of fish oil being rancid. My mom got really sick a few years back from rancid fish oil capsules, and starting a new bottle was the only thing I could think of that I changed. I haven't taken the capsules for a couple of days now, and things seem to...

I'm not actually on any hormones.

Actually, that's not rare at all. In women with dense or fibrocystic breast (breasts that are on the lumpy side), caffeine is known to cause breast tenderness.

ARCHIVED Round Up Of Symptoms

I was having to urinate around 15 times per day, and had continuous bladder pain at a level I would describe as moderate. I was also having trouble emptying my bladder completely, or at least it felt like that. I had been having symptoms of IC for about six years, but was just finally diagnosed last year. -
Since going off gluten six months ago, I've been calm as can be. I got glutened this morning accidentally. This afternoon, I'm back to self-condemnation and anxiety. I hate gluten!

ARCHIVED Calling All Ambiguous Status Or Ncgi People....becoming Comfortable With Ambiguity
across replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I really admire those of you who can live with the ambiguity! I'm planning to have the biopsy because the ambiguity is just too hard for me. -
With the exception of about three weeks of some gluten exposure that ended about two weeks ago, I have been off gluten for six months. (The reason for the expose was that we had plumbing problems and I was having to eat out almost every meal). For the post two weeks, my breasts have been extremely tender. I used to have this problem around my cycles...

Have you ever seen the documentary "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead"? In that, two guys with urticaria both stopped having outbreaks and were able to get off their steroids after going on 60 day juice fasts. It makes me wonder if it wasn't the juice fasting that was effective, but perhaps the elimination of gluten? I'm not at all telling you about the movie...

I also have had osteoarthritis in my finger joint. Going off gluten has made a world of difference in that, but so has fish oil. When I'm not taking it, the swelling and pain start back up.

ARCHIVED Round Up Of Symptoms
across replied to UK2004's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have interstitial cystitis which resolved completely with the elimination of gluten. But I was also doing the paleo autoimmune protocol, so I had eliminated many other things besides gluten at that point. It only took a few days for my pain and frequent need to urinate to disappear, if I recall correctly. If there's one thing I've learned through all of... -
ARCHIVED Need Help Interpreting These Results
across replied to across's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm glad to hear you can still eat out, BlessedMommy! My head is still spinning from all of this. I eat out a whole lot. I always order something gluten-free, but I've been glutened before in some of the restaurants even with the gluten free options. Also, I have to spend two weeks in another state for school in a few weeks. I have to live in the dorm... -
ARCHIVED Need Help Interpreting These Results
across replied to across's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thank you, nvsmom-- I really appreciate your help! The reference range for the deamid. gliadin IgA was <20 neg., 20-30 weak positive, >30 positive. I can't imagine doing a gluten challenge! Just the small amount of gluten I had prior to the test made me miserable. I'm still dealing with the aftereffects of that. Ugh! The thing is, I hate...
