Italiana, if you have not suffered enough it is your god given right to suffer more.
I have never cheated, because unfortunately a few loose crumbs from someone elses food will make me sick if they get onto my hands etc. I remember the pain and what I go through with a few crumbs, I don't find the need to suffer more.
Obviously everyone reacts differently and I am sure if you ended up with leper skin and what I get, you probably would think twice about cheating. It is your decision to make and your choice to quit or not.

I worked for KFC once so that cured me of ever wanting their bucket of MSG. I used to love the smell of fresh baked goods, now they make me feel sick. I look like a leper today because somewhere there was a small grain of wheat or gluten that I happend to unwittingly touch now I have DH on my face. I hate them all we need advertisements for gluten-free things.

Unfortunately, travelling to obtain the food or our food supplies just doesn't fit into their idea of medical deduction. Isn't that grand?
Yes you have to be diagnosed by a medical doctor of any kind to be allowed to take it off. Not only that but for the medical deduction to mean anything you need to make copious amounts of money.
-
We really do need to get on their case of making this a disability again but I don't hold much hope with Harper in there.
They think a disability is the inability to feed ourselves. Without the deduction, the cost of our flour etc. does make it an inability to feed ourselves. If I was to lose my job today, I would lose the ability to feed myself because of the cost of the flour even.
I think we could have a case if we could get some decent free advice from a lawyer versed in medical issues.

I was at Splitt last night with my brothers and I did not have any problems and the food was great.
I did not find them nearly as expensive as Mongolie Grill (which I found totally bland), or if anyone has ever been to Chili's you are likely to be poisoned for sure there for no less than a small portion and $19.00. I paid actually more at Moxie's, the meal was good but no where compared to Splitt and much less food and it cost me $18.00. I paid around $18.00 last night for a delicious huge meal, which I have had the rest for lunch today.
There was a bit of a mix-up when my brothers ordered wine but they straightened it out and the manager reduced the price of the bottle and gave them two glasses free. Maybe they have figured out it is best to deal with these things right away or they may lose business.
When one is catering to a select clientelle in most aspects, it is always wise to settle any problems up front. Word of mouth can make or break a business, especially one like theirs.
If it was my restaurant, I would have no gluten at all in it because of the chance of cross contamination.

It truly amazes me how many people, companies, and doctors imagine they know how much will affect any one of us with this condition. While one person may react to a small chunk of bread, another may not react till they have had a whole piece. Then there are people like myself who react to what could be called "microsocpic" amounts.
Who do they think they are that they can be so cavalier about our health and lives. They are arogant to assume that whatever amount is in their products cannot cause any of us problems.
No, I do not think you went over the deep end as your husband thought.

You may have a whole new business selling gluten-free wedding cakes.

Welcome to the forum, I am from Alberta and wished I was in BC.

Tonight I went with my brother's to the new gluten/lactose/smoke-free restaurant/bar...Splitt.
I have to say I was impressed. The servings are huge, the bathrooms clean and the meals are not that pricey for great tasting, large servings. We had an excellent waitress and I must warn the jerk chicken is hot. Hotter than I even had it in Jamaica but then that could have been tourist Jerk. My one brother who is not into spicy had the Maple Chicken and the other had Paella hot level of 3. He can take lots of spice but said he would definitely tone it down to a 2 because he said it was hotter than my Jerk. My SIL had the jerk chicken also. The food was done excellently the chicken I could cut with a fork and my brother said the Paella was the best he has ever had any where. The other brother said his fish was delicious and done perfectly.
My family is not gluten-free and has not been tested except for me but we all agreed that we would definitely go back there. They were so worried that the food was going to be small portions, boring, bland and expensive and were so very pleasantly surprised.
Just a note to anyone with kids, after 4 PM it is turned into a bar. It is not noisy or nuts and the great supper menu applies but kids are not allowed in there but they will do take out.
I strongly recommend everyone give it a try. They have some great dishes and it is great service and food. We drove all the way from the NW end of the city and weren't the only ones who did. Believe me, I would do it again.

You are talking about the new caramel ones? Yes they are gluten-free and very good.

Lakeview bakery makes gluten-free bread but I have never liked their rice bread and I did have a problem after I ate their rice bread before. Lakeview bakery also makes normal bread and they think that Spelt and Kamut are gluten-free.

Thanks, it did work. I was under the distinct impression after talking with them that the place was totally gluten lactose free, I guess not.

A restaurant just opened yesterday in Calgary. It is run by two men who are Celiacs and it is totally gluten, lactose and smoke free. I haven't tried it yet but plan to very soon. It is located at 7746 Elbow Dr. SW and is called the Splitt Restaurant their phone number is 212-0304, for anyone who is interested.

I made that cake mix a couple of days ago, and I already ate almost the whole pan myself haha.
Just to warn you: the dough is impossible to make the marble mix with, so I kinda just mixed with a finger what I could
And then I have a recipe for chocolate icing...its so good!!
I'll be buying more of that mix if I could find it again...

El Peto makes killer butter tarts the pastry is so good you wouldn't know it was gluten-free.

As most flavored chips have msg in them and other things we don't need. I only eat Lays regular chips.

I have a no-bake cheesecake sometimes referred to as the crack-cocaine of cheesecake. It has Philly cream cheese, dream whip, icing sugar and pie filling/fruit for the topping. It goes on a gluten-free graham cracker crumb crust.
Any takers?
Pick me! Pick me! I will take that one too.

That sounds like a great recipe Paige. I would love that one.

A real friend would not do what she is doing. I truly don't feel that any of us need people like that in our lives. It is hard enough to work with this problem without those who are supposed to love us and be our friends throwing stumbling blocks in our way. Not believing is a stumbling block. This is not like being a crack addict, they are not enabling, we have no choice. They would probably support a junkie better than some of us. People do the pity trip saying that addiction is a disease but it is a disease of choice. They chose to smoke, drink, do drugs. We did not have a choice with this. Personally if you have gone through two years of this with this person, I would cut them loose.
In essence what you are in right now with this so called friend is an abusive relationship. If you allow any kind of abuse then that is what you will receive from others. She feels as long as you take it she is free to do and say what she pleases to humiliate you.
Yes we are picky, it is our lives at stake. We have to be picky.

I would like to welcome you to the board. Thank you so much for offering up such a lovely idea. It would be very much appreciated. You are terrific!

No, Subway is tons of gluten their breads are not gluten-free. Anything else in there I would be leary of because of all the bread crumbs flying around. I stay far away from there.

About flipping time, I say.

I so miss oats. That was always my favorite hot cereal maybe I will get hold of cream hill.

I do not eat at Wendy's, MCD's or any place like that because the cross contamination issues are large. It is Like me eating fries at New York Fries, one of the ones that serves hot dogs. All it would take is a very few crumbs from a bun to be in the fries or anything like that and I spend a week being sick. Actually I was just sick for a whole week because I grabbed my partners phone and answered it because I had to and she was tied up. She had been eating a sandwich previous and answering that phone. I answered it and then not thinking sat down and ate my banana. I spent the worst week of my life with the big D and killer headaches etc. I would never chance eating at a place heavy with gluten like the above places.
