ARCHIVED So What Do You Do When Products "may Contain Traces" Of Wheat?
Rusla replied to mamatide's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If anything says "may contain traces of wheat or gluten" or if it says it is made in a facility that makes wheat or gluten products, I will not touch them. It takes very little to make me sick. As for hot dogs, I have always hated them. -
ARCHIVED Brain Fog?
Rusla replied to Super Bellybutton's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have had accidental glutenings caused by a few crumbs at work. The whole thing is with these, for the last three weeks I have had terrible brain fog, I feel so senile lately. -
I do not eat at Wendy's, MCD's or any place like that because the cross contamination issues are large. It is Like me eating fries at New York Fries, one of the ones that serves hot dogs. All it would take is a very few crumbs from a bun to be in the fries or anything like that and I spend a week being sick. Actually I was just sick for a whole week because...

Italiana, if you have not suffered enough it is your god given right to suffer more. I have never cheated, because unfortunately a few loose crumbs from someone elses food will make me sick if they get onto my hands etc. I remember the pain and what I go through with a few crumbs, I don't find the need to suffer more. Obviously everyone reacts differently...

ARCHIVED Dear Pizza Hut.....i Hate You........
Rusla replied to angel-jd1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I worked for KFC once so that cured me of ever wanting their bucket of MSG. I used to love the smell of fresh baked goods, now they make me feel sick. I look like a leper today because somewhere there was a small grain of wheat or gluten that I happend to unwittingly touch now I have DH on my face. I hate them all we need advertisements for gluten-free things... -
Unfortunately, travelling to obtain the food or our food supplies just doesn't fit into their idea of medical deduction. Isn't that grand? Yes you have to be diagnosed by a medical doctor of any kind to be allowed to take it off. Not only that but for the medical deduction to mean anything you need to make copious amounts of money.

We really do need to get on their case of making this a disability again but I don't hold much hope with Harper in there. They think a disability is the inability to feed ourselves. Without the deduction, the cost of our flour etc. does make it an inability to feed ourselves. If I was to lose my job today, I would lose the ability to feed myself because...

I was at Splitt last night with my brothers and I did not have any problems and the food was great. I did not find them nearly as expensive as Mongolie Grill (which I found totally bland), or if anyone has ever been to Chili's you are likely to be poisoned for sure there for no less than a small portion and $19.00. I paid actually more at Moxie's, the...

ARCHIVED Beware Of Tcby
Rusla replied to Moongirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It truly amazes me how many people, companies, and doctors imagine they know how much will affect any one of us with this condition. While one person may react to a small chunk of bread, another may not react till they have had a whole piece. Then there are people like myself who react to what could be called "microsocpic" amounts. Who do they think... -

Which Seasoning Brand Do You Use?
Rusla replied to mart's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use and sell Epicure Selections, they are only in Canada. Everything they make all dips, seasonings, rubs, extracts, popcorn seasonings, chocolate, coffee toppers etc., are gluten-free except for the Bacon, chives and cheese dip and the sushi kit. I eat them all the time and no problems. -

ARCHIVED New Restaurant In Calgary
Rusla replied to Rusla's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Tonight I went with my brother's to the new gluten/lactose/smoke-free restaurant/bar...Splitt. I have to say I was impressed. The servings are huge, the bathrooms clean and the meals are not that pricey for great tasting, large servings. We had an excellent waitress and I must warn the jerk chicken is hot. Hotter than I even had it in Jamaica but then... -

You are talking about the new caramel ones? Yes they are gluten-free and very good. -
Lakeview bakery makes gluten-free bread but I have never liked their rice bread and I did have a problem after I ate their rice bread before. Lakeview bakery also makes normal bread and they think that Spelt and Kamut are gluten-free.

Rusla replied to Rusla's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Thanks, it did work. I was under the distinct impression after talking with them that the place was totally gluten lactose free, I guess not. -

You are right. I do not like Ontario and I never found it a fun place. A fun place is BC. That is a place I would call a holiday, all the time.

That sounds like a great recipe Paige. I would love that one. -
A real friend would not do what she is doing. I truly don't feel that any of us need people like that in our lives. It is hard enough to work with this problem without those who are supposed to love us and be our friends throwing stumbling blocks in our way. Not believing is a stumbling block. This is not like being a crack addict, they are not enabling,...
