  1. What do the rest of you do to detox?

I'm interested in this too. I haven't done anything for a while...I've tried a week long detox fast twice before (actually only the first two days are fasting, the rest of the week contains specific foods which are supposed to be gentle on our digestive systems). I had mixed feelings about this...it definitely made me much sicker before it made me feel better, and in the end I don't think it helped enough to go through that again. I'm thinking something a little less harsh such as the celantro you mentioned. I haven't heard of "cracked" chorella, but I think I've heard of chorella. I took charcoal tablets for a while while on and just after the fast, but I think I felt like it was making me feel worse. At the moment I'm trying to balance out drinking lots of water with not washing away all the nutrients.

Speaking of jaw pain ... I get my braces tomorrow  No Invisalign for me ... they can't move the teeth enough for TMD. My ortho uses a different system than the normal and it moves the teeth faster. The problem is, no ceramic is available (it's made, but it has a high failure rate), so it's the all stainless steel kind! The thing that bothers me the most is this is medical necessity (100% paid for by MEDICAL insurance --$9k of TMJ work!!), but everone is just going to think I'm really vain.

We don't think you're vain, lol. Wow, that's great that the medical insurance is going to pay for it!

  2. Sorry to hear you felt bad over the weekend. :(

I cant wait to hear what Dr. Adams has to say at your consult.

I am so excited about the results of your appointment!!! That is truly amazing to me. I was beginning to lose faith in the abilities of doctors and this just gave me hope again. I think he is doing exactly what he should...I would actually be more skeptical of him if he rushed to load you up with stuff and DIDN'T want to confirm the results. But, at least to me, it sounds like he is definitely starting you on the right treatment if you are able to take the stuff he's given you already...that's amazing to me since you haven't been able to taken ANYTHING.

I'm really interested to hear about the electronic testing...didn't even know something like that existed, lol.

I'm excited for my consult too...wish I didn't have to wait until next week. I think after reading of your results that I'll get off my lazy beutocks today and make an appointment with the HN doctors. I keep putting it off...first I was waiting to get through the ampulla thing, then it was the dental thing...enough already, lol.

Speaking of dental stuff, the crown went on perfectly although I have that metallic feeling on my gum again...wondering if they scraped it or bruised it...need to go check. Anyway, the porcelain looks much better than all the metal and it feels great too. Every time I've had a metal crown it always feels like the tooth is too big...the bite never feels right...feels okay in the office while they're testing it but as soon as it's cemented in and I get home it always feels "wrong". So, so far so good. Ha, my dentist even commented (under his breath) something about changing them all...to which I said, yes I think I do want to change them all. So, that gives me my out with him...I no longer feel like I am the one who has to "break up", lol.

  3. rachel- I'm glad (in a weird way) that you have an "almost diagnosis". I think it's smart that your Dr. wants to be positive because treatment for Lyme involves lots of antibiotics (as far as I know) and I'd hate to see anyone go through all that for naught. Keep us posted.

It's amazing what mold can do. I am 99% positive that that was the problem in our evil vortex apartment. It can do crazy things to you....a lot of people think it's BS because mold is everywhere. Could you have any exposure at work? I was just reading an article that sid that Erin Brockovich bought a house after her settlement and it was brand new and turned out to be infested with toxic mold.

I agree with this too! Mold is one of the things I tested positive for on the allergy testing I've had done so far (originally 4 years ago, and on my retest in August 2005 it was still a strong reaction)...I CRAVE sugar like you wouldn't believe. I've suspected my house might be making me sick because I KNOW there is mold there (I can see it in my bathroom (not the black kind though), and for years I had a leak between the walls of my unit and the unit behind me (I live in a condo), but I also feel badly when I'm NOT home...at work, while traveling, etc. I don't feel any better or any worse when I'm NOT home. Anyway, this is one of the reasons why I did a lower carb diet for so many years...my ENT always suspected candida as a culprit in my frequent sinus infections.

  4. He says short term memory loss is always a problem with chemical sensitivities and metabollic problems. Yeah...I can vouch for that! :P

Holy cow, on Saturday I was trying to tell my mom something and had to start the sentence three times because I couldn't remember the word I wanted!

    B) What were we talking about?:o

    :lol::lol::lol:

I have been thinking about the various symptoms for Lyme. I kept reading that neck and jaw problems were common with Lyme and I would think but that's not me and then yesterday I remembered that about two years ago I went through this several month period where I had neck pain all the time. It was when I was seeing the chiropractor and I thought it was related to a car accident but now I wonder. It seems to me that Lyme comes with brain fog and that through that fog it is hard to make connections to the global picture of our health, it is like we fill in the blanks with our own reasons for why this or that problem has arisen not realizing that there is a cause underneath it all. Then when it becomes critical and we begin to seek help we are referred in pieces for diagnosis and the longer it takes for an accurate diagnosis the more we keep adding illnesses or other manifestations of how our body is failing us.

See, that's it...I DO have neck and jaw pain, daily and have had for several years now...I saw a chiropractor very regularly for a while but it never made a difference. Holy crapola, lol...

I wouldnt have accepted that type of diagnosis anyway...my instincts tell me other things cause Fibro symptoms. Some may disagree but I think Fibro is a result of something else but Dr.s dont know what...so they made up this thing called Fibromyalgia...and theres no treatment for it.

It just doesnt make a whole lot of sense to me.

I tend to agree with this too...I think a lot of things like Fibro are actually just collections of symptoms...just like IBS and a host of other things.

  5. Attention Everyone!

Rachel asked me to let everyone know that her computer is down and she will post about her appointment as soon as she is able, after the computer gets fixed.

We've all waited this long, we can wait a little bit longer, right? :P:unsure:

OMGOSH! NOOOOOOO, lol. Okay, really, of all days for the darned computer to not want to work! :P

  6. I'm not sure about the porcelain thing...I already paid close to $500 for it (they always want me to prepay my part on these kinds of things), so I'm hoping the dentist's office took into account the porcelain/gold thing...they're usually pretty good about estimating the actual costs. I never understood why the insurance company would have a problem with a less expensive material, but maybe because for molars it isn't as long-lasting...don't really know...can't figure the darned insurance companies out at all, lol.

  7. Rachel - WOW!!! Holy cow, I missed a bunch this weekend, lol. I'm glad you looked at that report, so now you can really ask some specific questions today at your appointment. I'm so excited to hear the results! Pins and needles really, lol.

I took a small break from the boards this weekend. I wasn't feeling good so left work at 9:30 on Friday, and basically just took it easy all weekend. I was VERY dizzy, slightly nauseated, very headachy and extremely fatigued. Blech, lol. Feeling better today...still dizzy, but at least not feeling nauseated and the headaches and extreme fatigue are better.

I get my permanent crown put on today...I already got the statement from the insurance company--they don't pay for porcelain on molars, so probably will have to dish out another few hundred dollars. :( Small though compared to what I will probably spend getting all the amalgam taken out, lol.

Aluminum...I stopped using foil a couple of years ago...plastic too. I try to use glass or stoneware containers whenever possible and use stainless steel pans. I don't know one way or another if they affect me, but decided since I was so sick the last few years that I didn't want to take a chance, lol.

  8. I just wanted to say I really care about the people on this thread and I'm not going anywhere.

    Thank you!!!

Hmm Talking about lectins.. I found a page which talked about IgA involvement in binding lectins.

    Open Original Shared Link

Got me to wondering if that isn't why my IgA was so high. Because when I was tested I was eating soy & peanuts (which I found out later are closely related to the white bean which I'm IgE to.)

I may have my doc re-run the test for IgA and see. This is the only reference I've seen anywhere online a reference to IgA doing something other than gluten.

Anyway, I don't think I have problems with all lectin foods, but it does help fill in some blanks. I still eat most grains (cept corn) with no problems, potatoes, and tomatoes. Just everything else that I avoid: Dairy, legumes, peppers, corn.

Anyway, just thought I'd share my info.

Thanks for the webpage...I'll look at it in a bit (still trying to catch up on what I've missed, lol). And, I just wanted to say again, thank you for the information...that is exactly what this thread has evolved into...a place where we can all try to help each other figure out those last few problem areas.

Dave -- Welcome back. Always good to hear from you.

    Wow, lots happening here overnight.

Welcome to all the newcomers. I hope you feel at home and find some of the answers you seek. There ALWAYS seems to be someone around with a proverbial pot of coffee on to chat and help us work through all our stresses.

Just wanted to say hi and wish everyone a happy thanksgiving (it Thanksgiving weekend up here!) I guess I should also include wishes for a safe and happy Columbus day long weekend for you all!

Hi Ryan! Hope your Thanksgiving was/is good... (not sure exactly what day it is for you, lol).

  9. Yes I did. Thanks for the thought! I am really missing my carbs. I ate a steak for breakfast this morning (hey, I was hungry!)

Great minds think alike, lol...I also had steak, ribeye to be exact...also had corn which I know you can't have. I've been having steak for breakfast since Whole Foods has been sold out of my beloved Bumble Bars, lol.

  10. Donna (or anyone who is interested):

a great list (and its very shocking!)-

    Open Original Shared Link

Thank you Laura! Mind boggling isn't it?! I think I've determined that corn isn't the problem (at least not in it's purest form) for me, but I've bookmarked the page just in case. I see many things on that list that DO bother me for some reason so it's good to have.

  11. Rachel, I personally don't want you to stop posting, but definitely understand needing a break...I took a few days myself a month or so ago...if you decide to stop posting (hoping hoping hoping you don't) please definitely PM me the results...in fact PM me anytime you want.

Oh, and I post on the 40-ish thread and I'm actually 50-ish! :)

  12. Julie,

    x

I have had digestive problems most of my life. As a baby I got eczema if I had wheat...but seemed to outgrow that. I think I really started my down hill slide about 10 years ago...I had a lot of dental work done around that time (mostly replacing old fillings and such). I don't know if the dental work started all the issues, or maybe just contributed. Anyway, I started getting frequent respiratory problems...like recurrent chronic bronchitis...then started getting allergies (not hayfever, just lots of congestion, etc.). In 2001 I had major surgery, which really kicked things into high gear apparently because after that, I was sick nearly continuously with sinus infections, bronchitis, whatever, from 2001 to December of last year. I suspected wheat was a problem and had followed a low carb diet, but not knowing about gluten, still consumed it in some of the low carb products I was eating. Finally, my allergist suggested I follow an anti-candida, anti-yeast, lower-carb rotation diet to see if food intolerances were adding to my problems...he had already did trials with me to see if candida and/or thyroid was a problem, but those didn't help much. I followed that diet for six months (it coincidentally was almost entirely gluten-free because it was all non-processed foods) and wasn't sick once...then I took a cruise last year...during the first week I was good and stuck to basically meat, veggies and fruit...but during the second week I started taking bites of bread, pastas, etc. and by the end of the week was eating full servings of them. I gained 10 pounds almost overnight from the bloat. When I got back home, I quickly got back on the diet, but couldn't seem to stay away from the bread...about 3 weeks after returning home and eating the gluteny stuff I got sick...first with strep throat, then with ear infection and then sinus infection followed by a cold. I was sick for nearly a month and a half and was on antibiotics that entire time. It finally clicked with me that gluten was an issue...so I ordered the Enterolab testing stuff. Turns out I am definitely intolerant to gluten and to casein. Since cutting those out I haven't had a single infection! Amazing...it's been a year now.

However, I still have lingering issues...abdominal pain, sometimes severe fatigue, heart burn, dizzyness, low blood pressure, rapid heart beat, nervousness and low body temperature are just to name a few. I've been tested via skin scratch tests for food and environmental allergies and have been receiving treatment for the environmental allergies for nearly 3 year (allergy shots). I've had numerous blood tests, but all have been done by mainstream doctors, so they really only run the most "usual" stuff...not really an indepth tests. I am currently suspecting that mercury might be an issue with me because nearly every tooth in my head has something going on with it. I have 5 gold crowns and am getting a sixth one (porcelain hopefully) on Monday...all of the crowns are in contact with amalgam fillings or are next to teeth with fillings which I understand is a particularly bad combo. I have been to 3 doctors about the dizzyness and low blood pressure/rapid heart beat thing, but all insist I am healthy. So here I am, trying to figure out why.

  13. Hi all...I intend to post this topic on a travel type bulletin board as well, but thought I'd ask here too. I'll be going on a cruise in December which leaves out of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. We intend to fly in the day before the cruise leaves, so basically just need a nice, safe place to stay the night before. I've already faxed a letter to the cruise line for my gluten-free requirements, so that's covered. Gluten-free isn't really a huge concern at the hotel for me since I'll most likely be bringing a lot of my own snacks and stuff, but would probably be eating breakfast at the hotel--but my own snacks would certain hold me over until I get on the ship. The following are a list of places that I've seen on other bulletin boards as being nice and in decent areas and close (or close enough) to the cruise port:

    The Riverside on Los Olas

    Pier 66

    Marriot Harbor Beach

    Westin Diplomat Resort

    The Renaissance

    Courtyard/Airport

(Marriott Marina and Embassy Suites were mentioned, but I couldn't find anything available for when we'll be there)

They all seem to be in the same basic price range (pricey IMHO, but it's only one night and my friend and I will split the cost). Comments or other suggestions? We aren't pool or spa people and won't really be there long enough to enjoy things like that anyway...really just sleeping/showering there, lol.

  14. Donna, OMGosh, you have graduated to necklaces now??? Wow this addiction of yours has exploded!! Please, you and Susan-dingogirl, must have a jewelry show or catalog put together-this could be a new business venture. Maybe do home parties, like tupperware!!!! Next step--earrings!!

Can't say the thought of home parties hasn't crossed my mind, especially as they were laying people off here over the last few weeks, lol. Yes, truly it's an addiction!

  15. I also want to add that I feel somewhat connected to all of you here, and will offer what support I can.

You've all been supportive to me as I am relatively new to the Celiac thing. I wouldn't've been able to cope with a LOT of this with out Rachelville (both threads)

    Thanks again.

Rach -- I hope you know one way or the other soon enough what you are going to be dealing with.

BTW the new avatar is my daughter Tasmin.

    Tasmin is adorable!!!

  16. Premature posting:

what is this about earrings? rinne? I must have missed that part....

Yes, quite a few of us have discovered that we can no longer wear earrings, and some can't wear any type of metal jewelry. I can still wear bracelets just fine, but necklaces will bother me after a while...I start scratching at the back of my neck within just an hour or two. I can't wear any type of earring for longer than an hour or two...even gold. Used to be that I couldn't wear cheap fake earrings, then I couldn't wear sterling, and now can't wear 14kt gold...my ears start to weep within an hour or two and I get cyst-like things in the pierced holes...odd, but while discussing that one day, we determined that a lot of us have some sort of sensitivity to metals, which at least in my case seems to be getting progressively worse as time goes on. Someone suggested trying 24kt gold, which if I can ever afford, I may, lol.

I truely hope Rachel and Donna and Patti and Susie and everyone else does find solutions, and gets better, and to that end I will always strive to help...

    ...

    *hugs to all*

Thanks Vincent...do wish you'd hang around though. :)

Today I had a check up with my GI and he thinks I am still getting gluten, but not know how that could be, got a bit more testing done. Will go back next month for another test then will not go back for another year.

Good news but need to go thru foods/ fine tooth comb for gluten or ?? Long way there so really stocked up @ New Pioneer Foods.

The amalgram story has been very interesting but removal is not allowed in our state or next state where my dentist is and I may have health problems not allowing that anyway. I wish you who are working on that much luck and will keep on listening. Thankful for new cyber friends.. evie

Oh Evie, hope you can pinpoint where the gluten is coming from, if that really is what is happening. Could it be cross-contamination like with a toaster or other appliance or utensils perhaps?

I also had no idea it was illegal to remove amalgam some places, WOW! I have lots of questions to ask when I see this new guy...I did read somewhere...one of Rachel's posts, one of the websites she listed, or somewhere that one can sometimes expect to be sicker once removal starts (or something like that...I have a terrible memory for what I read). That scares me, lol.

(can I use we even though I don't post here that often?)

    Sure you can silly, lol!

Rachel- put down that ice cream and back away! Don't make me hurt you, lol!

  17. Donna - - I'm like a proud momma! good for you....don't forget to go to the next gem and bead show at the Expo Cento in San Mateo (november or December) - holy Lord - - I don't know if you've been, it's unbelievable!

Yep, went to the one they just had a few weeks ago...my co-worker has a resale license so we even got to go into the "special" area in the back. Spent a whole bunch of money there too!:lol: If the next one is during the first two weeks of December I can't go cuz I'll be cruising Panama, Panama-a {singing van halen song as I type}. Hey, I made 2.7 necklaces last night! Better than nuggets I tell you! (the .7 is one that is strung, but I think I want to get a bigger bead for the center, so no clasp yet...they created a monster when they showed me how to put a clasp on, lol)

Laura, definitely come and check us out at the OMG thread...we get silly at times, but interpersed there is a lot of good info for those of us trying to figure out why we still don't feel well even after being gluten free for some time. We're all trying to find the missing pieces of THAT puzzle.

  18. bead store....come on girls, have I taught you nothign?? those are for EMERGENCIES only...they have a four- to eight-time markup....you can get MOUNTAINS of pearl strands for as little as $3 or even $! (really crappy ones) at gem and bead shows...and they sell them for $15 or $20 at the bead stores - - talk about HERESY!!! And there are a couple of great catalogs that are almost wholesale, also ebay is wonderful for gemstones and findings (clasps, etc)....you must NEVER shop at a bead store! :o I also have lots of great websites if anyone (Donna?) needs materials...some great ebay sellers...and get this - was watching an item on ebay, some onyx nuggets, they sold for $32. What people don't know is that in that same seller's REGULAR store, those same nuggets are selling for $16 a strand, so I got two for the price of one - but bidders don't know that they have a store! crazy.....

Just put in a HUGE order at Firemountain!

Hope you're hair is having a great time, lol.
