  1. Ok, That's Rachel and Donna so far for meeting in Sacramento. My hubby thinks I need to fly down instead of drive or take the train. It would depend on if we wanted to just get together for a day or the weekend. When is another problem.....sometime in the next year?

Yep, some time in the next year would work for me, but probably not until some time after the first of the year... :)

  2. Morning everyone!

Andrea, sure, I'd consider driving to Sacramento! I have a friend who lives there (actually the friend that I'll be cruising with, and who I actually do all my travelling with it seems, lol). I don't know my way around there since I've only been there a few times and each time it was to my friend's house...but I'm sure she'd tell me how to get around.

  3. You said BS  (pssst...wish I had caught the double meaning, lol)

Somehow I missed the question about distance from where I am to Sacramento...it's about a 2 hour drive from where I live to Sacramento.

I'm Racheling chocolate right now...hope to get over it soon.

Hum, actually shopping WOULD make me feel better and I'll bet it would stop me from the chocolate rachelling that's been transpiring.

  4. Okay, I booked the cruise, lol. I had just finished booking it as my boss came in, lol.

Susan - it isn't a gluten-free cruise, but I saw on their website that gluten free was a choice under special dietary considerations. I have to send them a letter. From past experience (before I was even gluten-free) the staff on board are usually very accommodating...don't know what the corporate office will say, but I'm sure the crew will help any way they can.

Andrea - I've always wanted to do a train trip!!!! It sounds like so much fun. Back when I was a child (way back in the 1950s, lol) train travel was still sort of "in", so my parent took the train to Iowa to visit family...I can't remember anything about it really, just minute little pieces of memory here and there.

So Vincent, I'm wondering if the adrenals aren't the culprit in your case too since it seems so hard to control the blood sugar. I'm thinking it may be part of my ongoing issues as well, since I seem to have blood sugar symptoms, but test okay.

  5. Wow- What a day! I had the meeting today to defend the qualifying exam I took back in June for my PhD in Literacy. I was terrified. But the defense went pretty well and I was aked to leave the room so they could discuss the outcome. Longest 5 minutes of my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They brought me back in and told me I passed without revisions (most people have to do revisions/rewrites). I almost cried. I was so happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally. It's been 4 years to get to this point and now I can finally say I'm a candidate. :D

WOW!!!!! That is so FANTASTIC Bev! Congratulations!!!!!!

  6. Morning all!

Thanks for all the kind words everyone! I'm feeling better today...don't know why I should, but I do and I'm running with it, lol.

Susan - oh yes, I just know you'll share your yummy bumble bar recipe once you've perfected it, lol. I can't find the chocolate at my Whole Foods anymore. I'm going to have to resort to hunting for them soon.

Wow, Rachel, I'm so sorry about YOUR work situation too! It's encouraging to me though that the new supervisor felt badly! Not that I want anyone to feel bad, but it shows she cares on some level. I'm sorry that TheDave is REALLY not your boss now, lol.

Vincent - I'm so glad you feel comfortable in here! I do too...that's why I hardly post anywhere else anymore, lol.

I may be going on a vacation in December. My friend sent me some info on a cruise and I think I may go. It's a pretty good deal for a 10 day cruise to and around the Panama Canal. We've been on two cruises (Caribbean and Western Europe) before and it's a great way for me to relax (something I struggle with, lol). I shouldn't spend the money with all the dental bills, the new computer and car servicing that I still have to do, but I really think it would help my mental outlook, lol. So, over the next few days, we'll no doubt be busy planning all this which should take my mind off everything around here.

  7. I'm actually going to the doctor this afternoon--I'm pretty sure I have an eye infection. It's been going on since last week, and I've been feeling a little nauseous and icky. I was hoping it would clear up on it's own...

Wow, hope it clears up quickly...I've never had an eye infection...does it hurt?

I've been down too lately. Must be going around.

I'm so sorry! You've had good reason though! My "issues" always seem so trivial when I read about other's trials...that's one of the reasons why I don't like to post much. You've certainly had your share of trials recently!

Donna, I am so sorry you are feeling so down. I was hoping the situation with your work changes would be temporary until everything settled down but that doesn't sound like the case. I agree that you are in a difficult position wanting/needing to help everyone but not being able to because there isn't enough of you to go around, and that will make for lots of stress and you will wear you thin. And I'm sorry about your mouth pain and the bills, bils, bills. Please take care of yourself!

p.s. don't beat yourself up about the chocolate, we all do that at one time or another when things are stressful.

Thanks so much! Nope afraid it's not temporary. The entire office is really worked up about all this, everyone is upset, so it's hard to ignore, lol. I've had my chocolate for the day, so I'm feeling medicated at the moment.

    Beverly,

I haven't said, but I thought.....you're picture is beautiful. It's nice to see you more clearly.

    I agree...haven't said so though!

  8. Donna, how are you feeling lately??

Okay. Been very down lately so haven't been posting much...don't want to bring everyone down, lol. Had my post and temporary crown done on Friday...been fighting TMJ pain since then, but it really hasn't been as bad as last time...knowing what I have and what I can do to help minimize the severe pain has helped. My portion of all this dental work though is around $750! Ouch. And, it's time for major car servicing too...OUCH again, lol.

They downsized our department at work, so there is now only two of us (one will work days one will work nights, so really only 1 person on each shift) working for about 60 people. They've reduced the amount of work we're supposed to do, but it means a major change in procedure and thinking for the entire office, including us...can't help people as much as I'm used to and don't like telling people I CAN'T help them...I've never liked that, but I also can't make myself sick trying to help EVERYONE, and I can't help one and not another. The last day for the people who were let go was Friday...I've worked with one of them for nearly 15 years! Very sad.

So, I've been a little depressed and really stressed so resorted to eating some Hershey's chocolate last week, which didn't sit well, OBVIOUSLY!! Then finally bought some Tropical Source chocolate so at least it wouldn't have dairy in it! None of it is good for me though, and I'll snap out of it soon, I promise, lol.

  9. Mitch is still nauseated, hasn't been able to keep anything down. We just talked to the doctor's office and we are going to try ibuprofen and tylenol. We are thinking it's either the narcotic or the anasthesia that's doing him in. School has been haphazard this morning to say the least. I've got to run and get tylenol sometime today. We have the ibuprofen I was given when Seth was born.

I am to the point where I can't seem to take any of the prescription pain meds...they really do make me feel sick. After the dental appointments I just took Advil, but the nurse told me to take 2-3 every 6 hours...that worked well. Course the antibiotics made me feel a bit queasy too, but not as bad as the Vicodin did.

    Carla, yay on the sauna!

  10. I spoke with a doctor yesterday who is going to test me for heavy metals, hormonal imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, Celiac and Lyme and a whole lot of other stuff. I had emailed him a letter detailing my symptoms that he read before we talked. He thinks it is quite likely I have Lyme and probably Celiac as well although gluten intolerance for sure. He uses Enterlab and Igenex so I am confident that I will get accurate test results.

I felt stunned after I spoke with him, I have wanted someone to take me seriously and he does and it would seem that should be a good thing but it has only been in the last couple of months that I have been able to admit that I am ill and that admission still had a quality of unreality to it. His confirmation has made it very, very real.

I spoke to him about my decision not to have the endoscopy and colonoscopy and the reasons behind that decision and he respected it although he would have liked the results from the endoscopy. He told me that my Vitamin B 12 was way too low and that I need injections, he was very specific about the kind of B 12. He emailed me the Kleinhardt Protocol for treating Lyme which begins with the Salt/Vitamin C treatment. It seems he may be a good match for me since I am committed to the salt/c in any case.

The catch is this is not covered under our great public health care and I will have to fly to another city a ways away.

Wow! That's good news though...it just feels so good to have someone take us seriously! Not so good it's not covered and that you have to travel!

  11. And, one other thing to consider...if you do go on them for any length of time, you may want to taper off slowly if you ever decide to go off again. I've heard (from no scientific source, just hearsay and from a couple of people here) that there can be a kind of rebound affect where the heartburn is actually worse immediately after stopping if you stop abruptly. I don't know if that is true or not, but I tapered off slowly and I didn't notice any rebound heartburn. For reference, my doctor wanted me on them to see if it would reduce inflammation enough to make the cells in my duodenum appear normal...they were appearing abnormal in a biopsy, but he was certain it was from inflammation, so I didn't go on them for heartburn although I was having a problem with it at the time.

  12. Hello,

I've been having heartburn each day and my doctor put me on prilosec. I noticed on the box that it should be taken for 14 days. I am still suffering from heart burn and would like to take something. I tried Protonix but the side effects are making me feel more sick than I was before. Does anyone take Prilosec everday and how long have you used it for? Are there any ill effects for taking it longer than 2 weeks?

I was taking it everyday, but my doctor had to switch me to Zantac because the PrilosecOTC gave me stomach pains. The Zantac was much gentler. He was going going to have me take it everyday for more than 2 months.

  13. Yep, TMJ was confirmed by the Endodontist in my case. I haven't seen my regular dentist yet (will on Friday) nor my ENT.

Christine - wow, $2,000...fortunately they estimated my root canal at $1,100 and my portion was only around $290 or so. The crown will be additional...I have to have that at my regular dentist's office. Hopefully porcelain will be less costly than the gold crowns (my portion for gold is usually around $350). :(

Beverly - glad you are feeling better, but sorry to hear another surgery is necessary!

Ryan - good to hear from you!

I'm feeling better than last week...I think the allergy testing must have thrown my allergies into a tizzy even though it was only for food and I was only reactive to one food (plus the histamine control). I took Zyrtek yesterday and the day before and that seems to have cleared things up a bit.

  14. Just letting you all (that care) know that I'm leaving the board, for now anyway. I just feel that in the last several weeks, the board has moved from a place of support to a place of radicalism. It seems like every other thread is something about a conspiracy, a looming threat, or some evil substance that's killing us all. Sorry, but I'm over it.

This board no longer seems to be a place where the newly diagnosed or the people that suspect celiac disease can come to get information and support and reccomendations. I understand that many people have other health problems, other intolerances, whatever. I understand the need for support from others on these issues, but I see more posts on more threads that have nothing to do with gluten, or even celiac disease and gluten intolerance. Call me crazy, but I'm just so annoyed by it.

So, saying that, I bid you all adieu. I'm leaving, at least for now. I wish you all well.

    Chelsea

I care and will miss you and your posts! Hope you don't stay away too long!

  15. Thanks Julie and Andrea! I can't say much about the work situation yet because there are some people from work who frequent this website and we're not supposed to talk about it yet. It's a sad thing.

Hum, I DID go on a week long hiking vacation a few years ago to Vermont (thanks Bev for reminding me!)! It was a fall colors type of thing, so every day we did various length hikes through mostly wooded/rural areas. I don't remember any bite indications, but not sure I would have noticed unless it was BIG. And, of course I've had metal mouth for most of my adult life... egads, lol.

  16. DONNA! I may do as you are doing and not bust my arse to get up there...may miss the first lecture. Do you think they'll let us in? Hey, we're Celiacs, we might be having gastro issues in teh morning, of COURSE they'll have to let us in late!

 That would stink if they didn't take into consideration the gastro thing, lol--bet there'll be lots of people in and out of the lectures. A co-worker of mine has been involved (in past years) with the conference and she said it would be fine, lots of people go in and out. She said some people don't even go to the lectures. We'll miss breakfast...not sure I could eat any of it anyway. :P I still don't really know what time I'll get there...so far so good with not coming down with the cold, but still feel like it's a possibility. Still have to take the hazardous waste to the drop off thingy.

  17. Carla-Donna

thanks so much..I couldn't even follow it  so just pulled the whole thing off.:huh::o

Just to frustrated and tired and sad this am.

    feeling so overwhelmed.

Donna, i've been trying for so long to figure out who you are when i see posts from others to you

    think i have it now.

guess that's why i find the daily strength so much easier as we can see the face and real name.

any way was going to just stay home from swimming but since i saw your posts. going to 'gather my old suit' as the other is out in the rain drying. and take this sad old tired body into the 92 degree water and

suck up this gloomy day..and get on with my life.

    thanks girls.

    judy

Ha, yes my user name is rather forgettable, lol...not very user friendly, but I've used it so much I hate to change, lol. I've been around here for almost a year now, but don't really post a lot, so people don't get a chance to know me except on a very few threads...I post mostly on the OMG thread these days.

Sorry you are feeling overwhelmed, but glad you are going swimming! I've been taking walks at lunch here at work, and I think that is really helping to clear my mind and pick me up a bit...just getting outside seems to help.

I had the original. It was so good. Also bought some Blomin Bar's -not as good. But will come in handy. Ever tried those? Have you tried the Nutiva Hempseed Organic Bar?

Patti, thanks to you this might go thru. :)

Oh well, Donna, I tried to respond to you and Judy I got my remark mixed up with yours

Looks okay to me, lol! I think I've had a couple of the B bars. I agree, not quite as good, lol. I haven't tried Nutiva yet, but I have seen them in the store...may have to try them if they don't get my chocolate bumble bars in. :P
