  1. @FitnessMom, Does your rash get worse when exposed to the sun? Welcome to the forum!
  2. Welcome to our forum! This thread is rather old. The original posters might not answer. I'm assuming you've been diagnosed with Celiac Disease. Please remember that Celiac Disease causes malabsorption because of the damage to the villi in the small intestine. The damaged villi can't absorb all the vitamins and minerals that you need. This can...
  3. @Djd27, Has your B12 level been checked recently? How about your Vitamin D level? Low B12 and low Vitamin D can affect your thyroid. Vegetarian diets are notorious for being low in certain vitamins and minerals. Here's some articles to provide more information.... Vitamin B12 deficiency common in primary hypothyroidism https://pubmed...
  4. @Jackie Garrett, You might find some benefit if you read up on Mast Cell Activation Syndrome. Our food contains histamine. Our bodies can make histamines. And the bacteria in our guts can make histamines! Vitamin C, Thiamine (B1) and Pyridoxine (B6) can help our bodies get rid of excessive histamine. Vitamin deficiencies can be present whether...
  5. @ChessFox, B12 is a special B vitamin. All the B vitamins are water soluble, but B12 can be stored in the liver for long periods of time. The other B vitamins are not stored this way. You may have replenished the store of B12 in your liver since you've been taking it several months now. Higher doses which caused your itchy skin and headaches...
  6. Thank you, @ChessFox. Much as I would like to say that all the damage from thiamine deficiency is reversible, I can't. Thiamine deficiency symptoms often aren't recognised as such until the symptoms get severe and the risk of permanent damage is at its highest. In my case, I have acalculia (I can't do math) and my memory is fuzzy about events...
  7. Thiamine and Hashimoto's thyroiditis: a report of three cases https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24351023/ Thiamine Supplement in Patients With Severe Hyperthyroidism https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT02767245 Thiamine and Thyroid Fatigue https://thyroidadvisor.com/thiamine-and-thyroid-fatigue/ Effects of thiamine on growth...
  8. Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) could be causing some of your symptoms. SIBO can occur with or without Celiac Disease. Getting blood tests for Celiac Disease antibodies while still consuming gluten products would be the way to go. A DNA test for the most common genes for Celiac Disease is also an option. Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity...
  9. Thanks for calling on me. Apologies for not being able to answer sooner. I found some articles for all to read. Scott is correct in that Vitamin C helps with iron absorption. Other vitamins that will help treat anemia include Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Vitamin B12 and Folate (Vitamin B9), Vitamin B6, Vitamin A and Vitamin E. Minerals that help...
  10. @LeslieNYC, I get altered body odor when I get glutened, too. Frequently, the odor is caused by bacteria in the intestines that produce lots of sulfur gas when "fed" carbohydrates like gluten and veggies that contain lots of sulfur (broccoli, asparagus, cabbage, onion, garlic, etc.) and proteins high in sulfur like fish and eggs. Small Intestinal...
  11. No, high B12 does not hurt anything. "Signs and Symptoms of High B12 That You Should Tell Your Doctor" https://www.livestrong.com/article/374162-signs-symptoms-of-high-b12/ And... "Can you take too much vitamin B12? How to find your proper dosage, according to dietitians" https://www.insider.com/vitamin-b12-overdose
  12. There should not be any problems taking magnesium, B6, and tryptophan with that. I take passion flower with my magnesium, B6 and tryptophan sometimes and have had no problems. You might want to try the combinations when you have the next day off, just to see how these affect you.
  13. It's because you are still supplementing when the blood tests are done. You have to quit supplementing two to three weeks before getting B12 levels tested. Otherwise you'll be measuring the B12 supplements in your system.
  14. B12 is capable of being stored in the liver for months to years. When a person is deficient in B12, they are restoring the B12 in the liver as well as what is needed for every day. Like filling up that coffee cup @Wheatwacked said. Testing for vitamin B12 level should be done two to three weeks after stopping supplementation, otherwise B12 levels will...
  15. @JoelW1lls, What kind of herbal sleeping tablets are you taking? What are the ingredients?
  16. Thiamine deficiency is prevalent in diabetics. Depending on which study read, 75 to 96% of diabetics are thiamine deficient. Sweet potatoes contain an enzyme called thiaminase that destroys thiamine. Thiamine is needed to turn carbohydrates, fats, and protein into energy the body needs to function. Wheat products are required by law to...
  17. @AaronM Celiac Disease causes malabsorption which results in malnutrition (vitamin and mineral deficiencies). Checking for nutritional deficiencies is part of proper follow up care for people with Celiac Disease. Having NIGHT SWEATS is a symptom of Vitamin D Deficiency. Vitamin D is a fat based vitamin found in oily fish (like salmon and sardines...
  18. This is my favorite brand of golden syrup. Have enjoyed it for years without problems. https://www.goldeneaglesyrup.com/about It's delicious!
  19. The fat based vitamins are Vitamins A, D, E and K. Allithiamine and Benfotiamine are fat-soluble. They mix in with fats like the lipids that make up the cell membrane and can easily pass through. The fat based vitamins can be dangerous because they can be stored in the body for long periods of time and take a long time to clear. But high...
  20. Allithiamine and Benfotiamine are both fat soluble. Being fat soluble allows them to get into the cells easily. Thiamine is cleared from the body in about two and a half to three hours. Excess or unused thiamine is cleared and excreted in urine. Spread thiamine supplementation throughout the day, with meals. There's no upper safety limit to...
  21. I take Allithiamine and Benfotiamine. I get mine on line. Allithiamine has been shown to cross the blood brain barrier easily. Benfotiamine has been shown to help with the intestinal damage and diabetes. A positive for DH is a positive for Celiac Disease.
  22. I have awful reactions to sulfates, too. I can understand how that would be a stressor for the body, but can't say with certainty that was the catalyst. There's so many contributing factors. (I take magnesium citrate orally. Thiamine needs magnesium to help it work properly.) Keep us posted on your progress!
  23. @Artil, I suggest you look into Gastrointestinal Beriberi which is caused by a deficiency in Thiamine (Vitamin B1). "Elevated Lactate Secondary to Gastrointestinal Beriberi" https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4699997/ Thiamine is required to convert carbohydrates into energy. When thiamine is low, our bodies take a short cut...
  24. @RebeccaLMoyer and all, DH outbreaks can occur or worsen when we are exposed to iodine either in foods or medications. Medications containing iodine I've reacted to include contrast dye for x rays and betadine. Medications containing sulfites exacerbated my DH. High iodine foods include seafood like fish and shellfish (crustaceans), seaweed (nori...
  25. I'm glad to hear you're into reading! Here's an article that will help... https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7428453/ "Be well: A potential role for vitamin B in COVID-19" Pericarditis is a symptom of low thiamine. Doctors are treating Covid with high dose Thiamine, vitamin C, zinc and Vitamin D.
