  1. Hi Janine, I hope you check one more time. It was a typo when I said you could get a false positive. I meant negative. Positives are always right, but negatives can be wrong. It's just the nature of the tests. I wish you best of luck and good health and apologize for any confusion.
  2. Exactly...can't believe I messed that up...will edit my original. I was trying to explain that, as a celiac, she could still get a negative result if she wasn't eating gluten. Her first tests were positive and, in my opinion, the end of the story, but if she gets tested again, she risks a false negative if she's off gluten. I think it confuses people...
  3. There really isn't any reason for you to get retested, but if you must, you should continue to eat gluten before the test. If you don't, you risk getting a false negative. The blood tests are looking for antibodies and other things that show a reaction to gluten. Without eating gluten, your body won't be having a reaction (this is a good thing). Someone...
  4. From what I understand, the tests don't yield false positives. If you tested positive, you have celiac. The tests do yield alot of false negatives. If you are off of gluten and get tested again, you will likely get a false negative. Why do you think your positive results were wrong? The dietary response supported the diagnosis...why did you start...
  5. My only thought is that I wish more doctors thought like you! I had chronic diarrhea, with gas and gas pains, as well as intermittent itchy rash. All of this goes away if I avoid gluten -- I don't remember when I last felt so good. But if you ask my doctor, she will tell you that my blood tests don't indicate celiac, so I should continue to eat gluten...
  6. I'm assuming you have some digestive or other symptoms that make you suspect celiac. Have you tried the gluten-free diet to see if it helps? You could have non-celiac gluten intolerance or sensitivity. The solution would be the same -- the gluten-free diet. Trying the diet is the easiest, and in some ways most meaningful, diagnostic tool. If you respond...
  7. I didn't have weight loss either, but the few different symptom combos I tried (starting with abdominal pain/starting with D) both came up with Celiac as the top diagnosis. Wow!
  8. Others have already thrown out quite a few possibilities, so I'll add one more. My grandmother has had this problem for years -- it was one of the first symptoms of her scleroderma, another autoimmune disorder that causes hardening of the connective tissue. It sounds as though there are alot of possible causes, so I hope you're talking to your doctor...
  9. I don't think you have to stop drinking, but you might want to until your symptoms come under control (if they aren't already), so that you'll know if your system is reacting poorly to alcohol. That said, I have gone for long periods without drinking before and found that, for both my spirits and the attitude of others, it helped if I had a "fun drink...
  10. Well, I don't think I have the winner, but I may as well throw mine into the mix -- great thread! a bowl of peas and corn, heated, topped with cottage cheese and S&P baby carrots dipped in mustard potato chips topped with dill pickle slices a spoon of peanut butter dipped into the chocolate chip bag; eat off the chips and repeat dipping baked potato...
  11. I hardly ever drink, but my favorites are: red wine, grand marnier, champagne, and margaritas on the rocks with salt.
  12. I had terrible gas before I went gluten-free. I was worse on days when I worked, but I always thought that was because I was holding it in, so it accumulated. (Man, the conversations we have on here...) Anyway, when I'm home, or out in the world, I can release the gas periodically, so it doesn't become so bad. I find that exercise does help to work it...
  13. I don't find a correlation between rice and weight gain. With gluten carbs like pasta and bread, yes, but not with rice. That said, no matter what you are eating, if you eat more calories than you burn, you will gain. You shouldn't want to stop this process. It's your body healing and performing as it should -- absorbing the energy and nutrients...
  14. I don't know about the mucous, but I just wanted to let you know that you are not the only one to have poop pride. It had been so long since my stools had been normal that since going gluten-free, I have actually beamed with pride over some of my creations. On more than one occasion I have offered my BF the opportunity to see them. He has yet to take me...
  15. I also love the envirokidz animal cookies, but they are pretty sweet...sweeter than traditional animal crackers I'm sure your kid will love them, but you might not want to be handing out that much sugar. Another idea that might help, and I think it's what I would do if I had kids, is transition them all over to a gluten-free snack. Maybe mini flavored...
  16. The Corn Pops in my Safeway have wheat in them. I checked hopefully after people mentioned other generics being gluten-free. It's possible these were part of the recent switch along with Kellog's and Kroger. Be careful and read labels!
  17. I agree with you. Even if I'm at Whole Foods, I won't buy something that I can get at my regular market -- I want to give my regular market as much encouragement as possible!
  18. Inspired by you all, I made a pan of these today with Cocoa Pebbles and mini Jet-Puffed marshmallows. I had never seen a cocoa pebble before. Anyway, I can assure you that this combination works just fine. I will eat way too many of these over the next 48 hours.
  19. I buy Erewhon Crispy Brown Rice at Whole Foods. It's just like rice crispies. Just be careful to get the version that says gluten-free on the box. Erewhon makes another one that looks identical but has malt in it. I don't know about marshmallows, but I bet someone else will! The Jet-Puffed ones are Kraft, though. I did a quick google and it looks...
  20. I've never been glutened by Thai Kitchen, but I've never had that particular product. Have you had that product before? Is there anything else in it that could be bothering you? As for C&W, I think I've only ever had plain frozen peas, and never had a problem there, but that's not really a surprise. I agree that the seasoned veggies seem most suspicious...

    ARCHIVED Sushi Dinner

I will reiterate the warning against imitation crab -- I don't know any sushi resturants near me that use real crab in the California rolls, so those are always off limits. I would think that seaweed salad has soy sauce in it, but I don't know that for sure. Some of the combination veggie rolls have soy sauce in them...I got glutened by one that had...
  22. I am not diagnosed hypoglecemic, but I have learned that I need to eat regularly or I will get nauseated and dizzy. I used to be able to go the whole day without eating. Sure I would get hungry, maybe a little light headed, but I could get through. No longer! The first time I knew something was odd was several months ago when I went to do some shopping...
  23. Like Tiffany, I don't have celiac because I never had a biopsy. I had a high AGA IgG, but normal AGA IgA and tTg. I felt so sick with D and gas every day, so I decided to try going gluten free. I had such a positive dietary response, I am 99% sure that I have gluten intolerance. Who knows, maybe my biopsy would have been positive. At the time I felt...
  24. No, but never did. CA-USA
  25. No, but I've gone through periods like that in the past. Are you feeling physically hungry but just not into eating? Is your energy still high? Are you still engaging in activities, work, etc., with your usual level of enthusiasm? I know when I lose interest in eating, it's usually not the only thing going on, and when I realize that, I can usually...
