ARCHIVED positive dgp not celiac
Feeneyja replied to ironictruth's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
In comes SIBO Girl to join Captain NCGS One other thought: have you looked at the possibility of having small intestine bacterial overgrowth (SIBO)? The pain you are feeling may be related to bloating pressure, which, if it is caused by SIBO, would continue after the removal of gluten because lots of foods feed the bacteria in your small intestines... -

I can tell you that the head pressure you are speaking about is one of the symptoms I am experiencing now. And fogginess and dizziness. I'm going to go as long as I can with my challenge. Im hoping the new GI I'm going to see will work with me. I would like him to do blood work every month to see if levels are changing. There were so many problems... -

I should qualify that I'm actually consuming the equivalent of 1-3 slices of bread in the form of vital wheat gluten. Sometimes I have bread, if I'm eating out. But I don't really want all of the carbs and I want to demonstrate that it actually IS the gluten causing the problems and not a Fodmap issue. My reaction to bread and my reaction to the gluten are... -

I am going to have to remember this: "Doctors who fail to notice there are recalls out on their God complex". Brilliant! I'm wondering what symptoms failed to resolve? All of them? Some of them? Neurological ones? I'm sure you have read Dr. Hadjivassilou's work. I listened to an interview with him and he stated that neurological ones can take a year... -

Some days I have 3 pieces of bread, other days I just can't handle more than 1. I had to take a day of gluten rest after the first week. I felt too aweful. Now I'm almost done with week 2 and I feel like I need another break. Just so hard to do something to yourself that you know will hurt. They just don't know how much and for how long. There was... -

I hope you feel better too! Sorry it's been such a long road with still no results. It's so frustrating. People are sick, tests show nothing, but that doesn't mean nothing is going on. Trying the strict gluten-free diet can't hurt (other than being a pain). I know someone locally whose 2 children have celiac. Only slightly elevated blood test.... -

This is really tough. There is still a lot of research needed in diagnosing (or dismissing) celiac disease. It shouldn't be months/years of misery and uncertainty. A couple of years ago Dr. Marsh (THE Dr. Marsh of the Marsh biopsy rating system) criticized the US celiac community for not recognizing an increase in IELs as early celiac disease. He asked... -

ARCHIVED Need Help With Sibo In Kids--Input?
Feeneyja replied to mamaupupup's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
These are all low in fermentable carbs, but limit amounts to see what is tolerated (for us, 2 tortillas, two biscuits, one sandwich round) and don't load up on lots of baked goods in a day I try to limit it to one baked good per day Tortilla/ flat bread: Open Original Shared Link Sandwich Rounds (good with peanut butter): Open Original Shared... -

Also want to say that a lot of gluten free recipes are not good for SIBO- too many starches. Also large quantities of almond flour or coconut flour have too much fermentable fibers so be careful with Paleo/SCD recipes too. It's a bit of a balancing act in what you make and how much is eaten (that's why I like fast Tract- you can qualify things and it works... -
ARCHIVED Need Help With Sibo In Kids--Input?
Feeneyja replied to mamaupupup's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter is now 11 and we are finally on top of her SIBO (since she was 8). Diet is super important. I know it's hard with kids, but a diet low in fermentable carbs is key. Especially when SIBO appears to be chronic. I suggest looking into the Fast Tract Diet. There is a book and an app. Using glycemic index, fiber, and total carbs, the diet tells... -

Thanks cyclinglady. Any advice for the constipation? I was really anticipating D because that's what I would experience when eating gluten recently (which lead to this challenge.) It's really funny. I feel like I need to dash off to the bathroom, lots of gurgling in my gut, but not much moving. -

Saturday was the symptoms I have been feeling amplified big time: Terrible nausea, head ache, dizziness, stomach gurgling, fatigue. And the constipation/strange BMs. Wasn't prepared for that one. I sort of took Sunday off and felt a bit better, now the dizziness is ramping up again. I'm planning on taking a break once a week. Hopefully that's ok... -
My daughter was treated with antibiotics when first diagnosed with SIBO, but it came back and got worse over the year. Instead of xifaxin again (and because insurance wouldn't refer her back to the same doctor), I treated her with Atrantil, herbal antibiotics (oregano oil and garlic), plus diet low in fermentable carbs (SIBO specific diet) and she was WAY...

You might want to have your GI test for SIBO. Similar gut symptoms, common in celiacs, often agrivated by probiotics because you are adding more microbes to the overgrowth (FYI, the overgrowth is typically good bacteria is the wrong place). That's one of the next things they look for in a celiac still having symptoms.

Anyone Eaten Domino's Gluten-Free Pizza Recently?
Feeneyja replied to Veghead1234's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Really? Do you have a name? I would love a frozen "pizza" we can have right now (FYI, we are grain free because gluten seems to have messed up my daughter's digestion sufficiently so she has to stay on top of chronic SIBO). Edit: Oops. Just saw the link! Thank you!! -
Anyone Eaten Domino's Gluten-Free Pizza Recently?
Feeneyja replied to Veghead1234's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
We make Meatzza! The "Crust" is ground beef. Seasoned ground beef, pressed flat and baked about 30 minutes. Drain grease then add sauce, cheese, toppings. Tastes terrific. Totally holds together and completely grain free! Also freezes and reheats well. Better than almond flour Crust. -
I'm one week into my gluten challenge. Felt mostly fine up until today. Very nauseated, stomach churning, mucus in stool, headache and dizziness. We will see how far I make it. I have a history of anemia, headaches and vomiting, unexplained weight loss with loss of hair and diarrhea, many cavities, easily broken bones. But the symptoms have come and...

Thanks. I just looked at U of C and they say the same. Boo. A couple of years ago they said only 6. It was when my daughter was undergoing her gluten challenge. There was even a paper published at that time that said you might be able to get away with only a 2 week challenge. Clearly everyone is different. -

I have been here for my daughter who has severe gluten intolerance, but no celiac diagnosis. We are all gluten free in our house so as not to harm her. But I have noticed that, when dining out or at someone else's house, I don't feel well after eating gluten. Now I'm wondering about a lifetime of health issues that suddenly make sense: anemic off and... -
ARCHIVED Frustrated with doctors
Feeneyja replied to Lindsey1978's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh wow. Positive is positive. Especially with two blood tests and HLA gene status. I don't think you can have an elevated tTG in the absence of celiac disease. It is very specific. You would need a small bowel biopsy to confirm damage, but sometimes those don't come back showing damage because the damage is just not extensive enough. I would find a doctor...- 3 replies

The Sausage is a possibility, but not that likely. There is greater likelihood that the gluten is in the thickener for the Soup. Also, check to be sure any restaurant you go to has a thorough gluten free protocol. Use of dedicated equipment, education of servers, etc. Olive Garden handles lots of gluten: in the bread sticks, pasta, the sauces. Cross contamination...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Chicken? No Such Thing
Feeneyja replied to buckwheat's topic in Super Sensitive People
Squirmingitch, I should qualify that my daughter does not have celiac. But she barely made it through the gluten challenge, has severe neurological symptoms when incidentally glutened (such as the chicken feed incidence) - loss of use of the right side of her body, dragging leg, unable to grip things, involuntary tremors, heaviness of arms and legs, even... -
