  1. Mine just came in the mail this afternoon. My kids aren't thrilled about the idea, but it seems pointless for one person to do it without everyone doing it, right? I'm sure my 10 year old has some sort of parasite(s), since he recently told me that he thinks he has worms again. (He came to us from a Russian orphanage and was very well-acquainted with parasites...
  2. I have psoriasis that started at about age 19. At age 32 I developed psoriatic arthritis. I went on a strict gluten, dairy, egg, soy, bean, nightshade, and red meat free diet and after a year the arthritis and psoriasis went completely away. As long as I am gluten, soy and mostly dairy free (I can do small amounts of sheep milk or goat cheese) I have no...
  3. They don't have the gluten-free ones in my normal store yet. But the "old" ones are $4.39 for a 12.8 oz box. Yikes! The Health Valley version comes on sale regularly for $2.50 for a 17 oz box. The regular price is $3.39 or something. I think I'll stick with those for now.
  4. Hi everyone! Once again I'm back, feeling guilty that I've been so "bad". I was doing well for a while, but have gained a few pounds back. I just looked at some pictures of myself and am motivated again to get started (again). So today is another new start. I need to get back here regularly to post my food intake and weight. I'm up to 172-ish ...
  5. Barb, have you been to Haley's Corner Bakery in Kent? Maybe it would be worthwhile to go visit and ask them some questions. They are very sweet ladies and I'm sure they wouldn't mind answering a few questions for you. If I remember right, you're farther north, so you wouldn't be in competition with them for customers. I met a lady in Federal Way who...
  6. I bake the Pamela's bread a really weird way, but it works great. I mix it up right before going to bed with cold water. Then I put it into a 1.5 qt oval casserole dish and put it in the oven on time bake for 70 minutes, with the light on. It "rests" overnight. The oven comes on at 5:40 and at 6:50 the bread is ready, just as I am getting up. The kids...
  7. Peanut butter on rice cakes - maybe with a bit of jelly or honey. Smoothies made with rice milk, fruit and a spoonful of rice protein powder. Dinner leftovers. Chicken or turkey sausage or bacon with rice toast. Envirokidz cereal bars with peanut or almond butter spread on top. It's a challenge, but you can get the hang of it!
  8. I'm glad your skin and hair are improving! I've been gluten-free for a long time now and nothing seems to work - I'm hoping that this might be the answer.
  9. After reading this, I ordered some for my whole family and dog. Between my husband's on-going problems, my son's new health/behavior problems and my frustration with psoriasis and hair that is getting thinner, I figure all 6 of us (other 3 kids too) are going to try it. I hope it works!
  10. Interesting to see that someone else has had great improvement with a kidney disease. I was diagnosed with Minimal Change Nephrotic Syndrome (similar, but not quite as severe as FSGS) almost 5 years ago and going fanatically gluten-free has made it go into remission. I hope your dad sticks with it and keeps improving! I have tried for years, in vain...
  11. I am in remission right now, but I have something called Minimal Change Nephrotic Syndrome (or Minimal Change Disease). It is similar to Glomerular Nephritis. My kidney function has always been okay, but the problem is with "spilling" protein. Going gluten-free was like a miracle cure for me. I don't have problems with protein, but it would be a good...
  12. Hi everyone, I haven't been on here for ages, but wanted to check in and say hi. Basketball season got a little too busy to allow me much time online. My team had a great season and we went to our state tournament and finished 8th! I was an assistant coach and my 14 year old daughter moved up from JV to be part of the team for the district and state...
  13. Really! Ener-G Brown rice loaf is disgusting, but the Light Tapioca is really, actually GOOD for paninis.
  14. We use Ener-G foods LIGHT Tapioca Bread to make Panini sandwiches. Even my gluten eating kids love them.
  15. This is pretty interesting. I've been fingerprinted several times (I'm a teacher and adoptive parent) and it's always been a struggle to get good prints. I just had them done a couple months ago and they got rejected because the lady couldn't get a good print. I have to go in again now. I've been gluten-free for quite a while now, but still no good fingerprints...
  16. Hi Everyone! Kat - I hope your dad is doing okay - sorry to read that he's been having troubles. Liz - welcome aboard! Nice to see another Liz here! I'm down 1-1/2 pounds from last week! Hurray! I've been really busy, so haven't gotten on here much at all lately. Glad to see you all posting and keeping this up! Basketball is hectic, but fun...
  17. Hi everyone, Kat - I hope your family craziness is settling down a bit! I did great, or thought I was doing great yesterday until I was keeping score for our boys' HS varsity basketball game and started to black out. I realized that my blood sugar was in the basement and that I was going to hit the floor any minute. Great... Right in the middle...
  18. Hi all. Hope you had a good weekend. I weighed in for my biggest loser contest today and was excited to see that I weigh 171-1/2. Down 3-1/2 pounds since last week! I know that the first 5 pounds are the easiest, but it still is exciting to see something coming off, especially since I've been working hard at it. Got in an hour long workout this...
  19. I just made it out to Hayley's Corner yesterday. Wow, I was really happy to see the quality and reasonable prices. I tested the gingerbread cookie, multi-grain bread and cinnamon apple muffins and they were all good. I'm watching my carbs, so I didn't test anything else and I'm limited to dairy-free too. (They did have several gluten-free/CF items.) ...
  20. Hang in there, Kat! I'm sure you'll drop those two pounds quickly. I did well yesterday, but don't even remember what I ate. (I had a basketball game last night, so the day got hectic.) I got in an hour long workout - about 15 minutes of weights and the rest cardio. A good friend took me to a new gluten-free bakery nearby and I was really proud of myself...
  21. Hi Kat, I love your enthusiasm. You've inspired me to "come clean" with my weight again. (I think I had it on here or maybe the other thread at one time.) Weigh-in on 1/7: 175 lbs. Goal: 150 lbs by March 31, which is when the "Biggest Loser" competition ends at my community center. Beyond that, my goal is 142, which is what my driver's license said...
  22. Here I am two days in a row! Didn't get to work out today, but did teach 6 PE classes and coached basketball - not as much exercise as you might think, but definitely not sedentary. B - 1 slice turkey bacon, small handful of raw almonds (20-25?) S - Envirokidz cereal bar L - about 2 oz deli turkey, carrot sticks, a few more almonds, satsuma S...
  23. Hi everyone, I haven't been here for ages because I've been too embarrassed. I've gained 10 pounds since school started (day after Labor Day) and am right back to where I started last year at this time. Very frustrating since I worked so hard last spring and lost 13-14 pounds and then let it slip a bit over the summer. Aarrgghh. I signed up for our...
  24. I wish I could offer some suggestions, but I'm in the same boat. Only mine has been going on for a lot longer. When I was on large doses of prednisone a few years ago my hair got really thin and hasn't grown in much. I'm already on thyroid (Armour), have had all my vitamin/mineral levels tested - they were all great except for D, which has come up a lot...
