ARCHIVED Seattle/bellevue: Meditteranean Kitchen
lonewolf replied to tarnalberry's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Yum! Where in Seattle are they? I live in the South End and have never even heard of them. My BIL's are both from the Middle East and I bet our whole extended family would love going there. -
ARCHIVED Enterolab
lonewolf replied to confusedks's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I know I'm not Nancy and I'm not trying to argue here. (I always appreciate the thought and intelligence you put into your posts, Rachel.) I wasn't tested through Enterolab, so maybe I don't quite count for what you're trying to say, but I don't have either of the Celiac genes and I have gotten better from the gluten-free diet. I'm actually even able to... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab
lonewolf replied to confusedks's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, my son tested negative through Enterolab. -
My daughter, her cousin and 2 of their friends were interviewed by a local TV station this morning and then featured several times during the day. They are in a national competition that integrates science and community issues and they are finalists. Their idea is to put lights on the (Mt. Rainier) volcano evacuation signs in the valley near us. If they...

ARCHIVED Enterolab
lonewolf replied to confusedks's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you look at the Enterolab website and see Dr. Fine's "Curriculum Vitae" (I think that's how you spell it) you'll see that he's very experienced. I don't think that they let scam artists be the head of Gastroenterology at Baylor U Med. Center - especially for 10 years. I actually had the chance to go to a seminar where he was presenting and talk to him... -
Thanks for the laugh. You're not old, just smart.

ARCHIVED American Idol Fans?
lonewolf replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I just love all the different opinions on here! I personally like Melinda, but at the same time think that Jordin and Blake are the two right people in the finale. Melinda is very talented, but isn't the right package to be the the winner. She's going to get a recording contract and reach a different audience than the "average" idol viewer. My 13 year... -
ARCHIVED Rice Dream
lonewolf replied to Sinenox's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Most of their frozen stuff already is. My son was just eating Neopolitan flavor as an after-school snack. I'd love it if they made "Cookies and Dream" and the Mint Carob Chip gluten-free - that would be wonderful! -
ARCHIVED Not Celiac After All - Maybe Hope For Some Of You?
lonewolf replied to VydorScope's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Vincent, I'm glad that Timothy is feeling well and that the wheat hasn't made him sick. I hope it's only the oats. Please be careful though. I'm not saying that I want him to be Celiac or gluten intolerant, but based on my experience I know that people make mistakes, thinking that they're okay when they're just asymptomatic. I was totally wheat... -
ARCHIVED My Son Is Having Problems.
lonewolf replied to Ridgewalker's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Welcome to the board! You might consider having your son tested through Enterolab ( www.enterolab.com ). Their stool test is only $99 and might be worth the money for you. It also sounds like he might have issues with dairy, which you might also want to try eliminating for the first several months. Honestly, it's hard for most people, especially... -
ARCHIVED My 0301 Gene Friends
lonewolf replied to confused's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm a bit ignorant of all the gene information, so please excuse me. My son has double DQ3, subtype 7. Is this the same as DQ7? (I think it is.) I also have at least one copy of this gene, but don't know what my other one is. My son's main symptoms are behavioral - teacher wanted him tested for ADD, he went gluten-free and now is an honor student... -
ARCHIVED Nineteen More Days Until Summer Break- Thank God
lonewolf replied to Teacher1958's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
So sorry you've had a rough class. Some groups of kids are just like that. Our 5th grade teacher can hardly wait for the year to be done - they're the trouble group in our school. You definitely deserve your summer vacation! I'm a PE teacher, so I get to give the kids back after 30 minutes - something that has saved my sanity over the years. Hang... -
ARCHIVED Hey There... Self-introduction :)
lonewolf replied to DarkIvy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome! I hope we can all help you out. Sounds like you're on the right track so far - good for you to figure it out. As for doing a gluten challenge, someone else will be more knowledgable than I am. I think you need to be eating a significant amount of gluten for several months before testing, but it probably depends on how long you've been gluten... -
ARCHIVED Lunch And Snack Suggestions?
lonewolf replied to bnsnewman's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My kids are a bit older than your daughter, but for snacking they like: Envirokidz Cereal Bars Homemade chocolate chip cookies Little baggies of Gorilla Munch Raisins Fruit-a-Bu fruit roll-ups Nuts Rice cakes with peanut butter Apple slices dipped in peanut or almond butter Lays Stax in individual cups Clif Nectar bars Ener-G pretzels Another... -
ARCHIVED New To The Board And Oh, So Confused
lonewolf replied to bnsnewman's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Welcome to the board. You're making the right decision to go gluten-free/CF - I'm sure your little girl will benefit greatly. Here are a few meal suggestions to make the transition easier: Breakfasts: gluten-free toaster waffles: Vans, Lifestream (Buckwheat Berry flavor!) and Trader Joe's all have great ones; gluten-free French Toast - use Ener... -
ARCHIVED Replacment Flours For Old Recipies
lonewolf replied to FaithMcCloud's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I mix up a large batch of gluten-free flour and keep in the refrigerator. That way I always have it ready when I want to make something. I use "regular" recipes with my gluten-free flour and substitute for milk (rice milk) and often for eggs (flax meal and egg replacer). I use: 3 C brown rice flour 1 C potato starch 1/2 C tapioca starch 2-1/2 tsp... -

Does anyone else think that it's funny that the weight issues section is right under the baking and cooking tips? Anyway... I wasn't too good today, but if you only knew how bad I wanted to be... B - 2 small blueberry pancakes with a bit of strawberry jam S - 2 more pancakes with more jam and a handful of almonds L - 1 rice tortilla... -
ARCHIVED Suggestions For Gluten Free Camping
lonewolf replied to JennyC's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I LOVE camping! Breakfasts: sausage, bacon, fried potatoes, pancakes, french toast, toast fried on the griddle, eggs, applesauce made from dried apple rings and maple syrup Lunches: sandwiches made with gluten-free tortillas or bread, chips with bean dip, deli meat wrapped in lettuce leaves, all the normal "sides" - chips, carrot sticks, fruit, cookies... -
Eleven years ago I was told to avoid wheat and that I should "watch" gluten. The test I had done showed off the chart numbers for wheat gluten, gliadin, rye, barley and oats, but the doctor crossed those out and said I really just needed to avoid wheat, that so many people had high scores on those that he thought they were false positives. I was told...

ARCHIVED I Found gluten-free Tomato Sauce
lonewolf replied to little d's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Please don't eat "regular" bread. It's full of gluten and negates the gluten-free spaghetti. Feel free to ask lots of questions and we'll help you to get all the gluten out of your diet. My signature says that I "cheat with butter". This has nothing to do with gluten. I'm sensitive to dairy, but do eat regular butter, though I probably shouldn't. -

Hi all and welcome to Courtney, Donna and Angie. I hope you all stick around! I've had computer problems, so haven't been on here for several days. I've also had will-power problems. The five pounds that I gained right after Easter are now permanently attached , but I guess it's my own fault. I've still been working out hard 4-5 days a week, but... -
ARCHIVED American Idol Fans?
lonewolf replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Did anyone already watch tonight? Could you please PM me with who got voted off? My girls want to go to bed early and just want to know. Thanks! -
This is my opinion: Celiac Disease is one form of gluten intolerance. True Celiac Disease can only be diagnosed if there is damage to the villi of the small intestines. BUT, there are many other manifestations of gluten intolerance, most just as serious as celiac disease. Some people have neurological problems, some have severe arthritis or other horrible...

lonewolf replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Everyone, I've been away from the computer for a few days and am just finally getting back to it. So much for my resolve to write down everything and post it here to keep me accountable. I've been working out, but haven't been very careful about my diet. I guess I'll try to start again tomorrow. My 13 yo daughter found out on Friday that she... -

Cathy, congrats on the 1-1/2 kilos! Way to go! Don't make too many waffles with your new waffle iron though. What a fun gift. Shirley - glad you got some sunshine. We had it for a few days and then got soaked again here. You sure sound like you keep yourself busy! True confessions, just to keep me honest: B - 2 pieces of French toast,...
