  1. OK. I'll check it out. BTW, I was just experimenting the past few days with a delicious creamy dessert thingy I dreamed up. It actually turned out very much like those yoplait type yogurts. It hadn't occurred to me until this thread that it could be frozen, in which case I'd bet it would resemble ice cream or sorbet. It happens to be basically fat free...
  2. Hmmm... I'm wondering if the coconut oil/milk had been partially hydrogenated or something, or if there was some other ingredients which caused the weight gain. Since the body can easily burn lauric acid for fuel, most find it has benefits for helping control body weight. I seem to recall also that the other dietary fats being consumed will play a role...
  3. There is no lactose in coconut milk. That is unless it gets added, in which case it not only defeats the point, but would be specified on the label. Besides that it isn't likely legal to call it coconut milk if such ingredients had been added. Don't be fooled about the caloric content, or the fat content of coconut milk (or coconut oil). The primary fatty...
  4. I find coconut oil actually prevents dry skin from occurring in the first place! I mean eating it! The centrifuged coconut oil is the only one I'd use, but it's over my budget, so I just add shredded coconut to my food. Not only does it taste great (to me anyway) but it has numerous health benefits, including the health of the skin, hair, and nails. Of...
  5. Perhaps you don't know about lauric acid then? Lauric acid is the primary fatty acid in coconut oil. It is a medium chain fatty acid, which gets metabolized in a completely different manner than all other types of fat. It doesn't go through the digestive system like other fats do. Rather, the body tends to burn it as fuel very early. Plus it lends the...
  6. Oh, now there's a death stroke for the human race - toxic atmosphere. So besides the holes in our intestines, they want to put holes in the ozone layer with gluten too... Can Man even get any more stupid?
  7. Thanks for posting this! I knew it could be done, and have been looking forward to trying out some recipe ideas. I'm gonna use stevia as the sweetener. They obviusly can't due to those jerks at the FDA
  8. Some time before I knew anything about gluten, I had a case of the yeasty beasties. I took caprylic acid capsules, and felt much better in just weeks. No prescriptions, no drugs. Of course I avoided all sugars and yeasts too. But yes, it will take some time. And since everyone is different with this, nobody can truly say with any certainty just how long...
  9. Not to stray off-topic, but... It's a shame that they continue to brainwash the entire population of the planet - trying to make us all believe that cannabis is some horrable plague to be wiped off the face of the Earth. In fact, it is an incredibly versatile plant. I mention this here because hemp can be used to make numerous products besides rope,...
  10. I might suggest a look at a post I made recently regarding starches: Open Original Shared Link Still other things might be the true culprit, like sugars for example. Not all those are the same either, as I'm sure you're aware.
  11. Yeah, I know your comment was only in jest...I didn't take offense. But yes, people do sorta drink their food anyway, as they don't seem to take the time to chew, along with the habitual guzzling of coffee, etc. They practically inhale their meals. That, and those insane diet shakes.
  12. It's not so funny when you have to eat like that every day to get any nutrient absorption I'm looking forward to solid food again, the sooner the better.
  13. Have you tried mixing the suspect flours into your own blend to be sure it isn't CC? I've read many posts about Bob's products being a problem. I suppose you could also try a bit of plain instant tapioca. If they really are a no-no for you, perhaps your system just isn't yet ready to handle high starch content, or certain kinds of starches. Not all are...
  14. Good suggestion! One thing that makes sense to me though, is that the child's body is working from experience. When the digestive system does better with something, over time it could become instinctual. So an acclimation period of sorts might be what's needed to get the body/mind to realize it can now handle other foods.
  15. I second the peanut butter! What about peanut butter on gluten-free bread/crackers? Mix peanut butter into applesauce, and/or blend with other fruits. I saw some recipes for peanut butter soup on a few sites too. Nuts butters are quite versatile. Beans are also good protein sources of course. Refried beans are a puree, but you could probably put any...
  16. In addition to the fine suggestions other have made thus far, I'd suggest a magnesium supplement for a number of the symptoms you've mentioned. It won't mess up tests, doesn't need a doctors approval or monitoring, is cheap, and can practically work wonders (it has for me and others). Just be sure it specifies gluten-free on the label. There are pills, though...
  17. I also take a powdered magnesium. It is easier to absorb than a pill, even for those who's digestive system is capable of breaking up one of those things (mine isn't). Currently I seem to do fairy ok with the recommended dosage, twice each day. It's the one from Now Foods - 450mg per tsp. I usually just blend it into a meal or dessert dish. However, I was...
  18. Fantastic!! On behalf of all Celiacs, a big Thank You seems most fitting. I hope it open the eyes of many readers.
  19. At one time I thought soy was giving me some problems, but I found that some high/concentrated protein foods gave me difficulty. Same was true for certain carbs. Thankfully though, taking a powdered magnesium supplement has given my digestive system a boost in efficiency, such that most things are no longer a problem. That one supplement has done sooo...
  20. Whenever someone mentions migraines, I think of MSG. It seems to be a major factor for many - gluten intolerant or not. But I suppose the more permeable gut might contribute to some degree. It isn't a given though, just a possibility. As for the rash, it sounds like DH (Open Original Shared Link). I'd recommend looking at some posts (follow the link) and...
  21. The comments given by gfp are quite appropriate. I've designed and maintained a number of sites as a profession. The viability can appear deceiving until you attempt to promote and profit by it awhile. Then reality sets in and you find your site lost in a sea of wanna-be successes, few of which actually make it. And yes, sitting down with the designer...
  22. I use a straight magnesium powder, and mix it right into meals/smoothies/desserts/etc. I take the suggested daily dosage, but twice each day. As long as it helps me with the symptoms I've been suffering from for so long, I'll keep taking it. The laxative effect doesn't appear too strong for me at all - quite mild I'd say. However, I tend to eat enormous quantities...
  23. Nicely said johnsoniu!
  24. Well, being a server/site admin and having my own website (for my business) I can tell you that though it isn't required that you understand much if any of the details, it does help. Take the suggestion of using godaddy.com for setting up the name, and I'd also suggest using them to host the site too. Their prices are quite competitive, and service seems...
  25. Well, since the gluten-free diet isn't difficult to do, nor does it require a physician, I'd say go for it. You might find it most helpful, or maybe not. But you won't find out unless you try it, right? Just keep in mind that you may have to stick with it for months before you notice anything appreciable. It took me six months. On the other hand, many...
