  1. It's great that your mom is trying to make some gluten-free stuff, but she does need to take great care not to cross-contaminate the food with her utensils. She must not use a flour sifter which has ever been used for wheat or other gluten-containing flour. No wooden spoons, cutting boards, or any other items where gluten can be hiding in tiny cracks and...
  2. Some flavorings can contain gluten, so it is best to verify by looking on the company website and/or contacting them by phone or email. In case you haven't yet seen this, here's a link to some lists of safe and unsafe ingredients: https://www.celiac.com/categories/Safe-Glut...3B-Ingredients/
  3. It does vary quite a lot from person to person, but many seem to feel better in about a week or so. Some in as little as two days. Some have symptoms for over a month, though that's appears to be far less common.
  4. What kind of rice are you eating? In other words, is it minute rice, parboiled rice, brown rice, basmati, arborio, short grain brown, etc? Have you tried Kasha (roasted buckwheat), millet, teff, or amaranth? What sort of veggies have you tried? Like sweet potatoes, squashes, cucumbers, celery, carrots, green peas, beets, turnips, parsnips, spinach, brussels...
  5. I just looked up vitamin D in relation to breathing, and apparently it is recommended for people with breathing difficulties! So I find it curious that it would have a negative effect for you. Another nutrient which turned up during my brief search is vitamin K. I strongly suspect other deficiencies are involved.
  6. If the ibuprofen is for headaches or body pains, that itself can be caused by nutrient deficiencies. I do know that deficiencies in B12, magnesium, zinc, and others can cause various types of pain.
  7. With numerous food intolerances, I'd be wondering if there wasn't an intestinal yeast overgrowth. This and leaky gut (which contributes to food intolerances) seem to go together for a lot of people.
  8. Wow, I always thought the white lines were from the skin drying out, using harsh solvents, guitar playing, and whatnot. And now that this topic came up, I took a good look and most of the lines are gone! Amazing. Yes, ridges on the fingernails is related, but basically due to nutrient deficiency. Vitamin B12 in particular. Other effect of B12 deficiency...
  9. Yep, same issue for me too. It's been like this several weeks I think. The screen resolution doesn't fix it, but a high enough setting let's you position the posts in the middle as was mentioned. It is an easy thing to fix though, no matter that ads are on both sides. That has been the case even before this problem started, so it isn't the cause. If Scott...
  10. To my knowledge, gluten is not a spice, so a gluten-free diet need not be a bland one. Do you use any spices? What about carrots, peas, beets, green beans, parsnips, turnips, squashes, zucchini, cauliflower, cucumbers, onion, garlic, celery, kohlrabi, scallions, radishes, brussels sprouts, and bok choi, just to name a few? There are lots more, and also...
  11. Who says you have to take 1000IU? The daily recommended intake is 400IU. Also, there are different forms of vitamin D. The natural one is D3 (cholecalciferol). I've read that the prescription stuff is D2, and inferior.
  12. Well, I don't much trust the medical industry either, but one thing I do know about vaccines is that they are incubated in chicken eggs. So if you have an allergy to eggs, that's something to consider. I've also heard that they use toxic stuff like mercury and formaldehyde to weaken the virus, in an attempt to simulate a slight exposure, which the immune...
  13. Hi everybody. I ran into this list of drugs, and which nutrients they impact: Open Original Shared Link

  15. Your description of the brain fog sounds like what many others have related. I used to get such that it was impossible to think straight. Unable to focus and maintain coherent thoughts. And yes, the fatigue was also quite unmanageable. I just had to sleep, or at least try, though I was often unable to rest soundly. It was like my brain was in limbo - couldn...
  16. The loss of the sense of smell may be a zinc deficiency. A deficiency in vitamin B12 can cause all sorts of problems, effecting mood, sleep patterns, memory and other brain functions, and lots lots more. Nutrient deficiencies are common among those with Celiac, and the skin problems you describe also fit. As others have suggested, it is a good idea to...
  17. Are you taking a methylcobalamin B12 supplement, like 3mg per day? I believe magnesium will also help in this area.
  18. Firstly, welcome, and you're not alone in how you feel. Keep in mind that most foods are gluten-free already. You have tons of variety available to you. Perhaps the best advice is to start with the basics - veggies, fruits, beans, meats, nuts, seeds, etc. Even most grains are gluten-free, so you've plenty of choices there too. Though there are many delicious...
  19. It is my understanding that shingles can occur if chicken pox isn't treated properly, but otherwise there isn't supposed to be any real risk of it. At least that's what I've always heard. Here's what I found on Wikipedia about it.
  20. I'd wait a few days while watching for more symptoms, even subtle ones. Take a good look in the mirror each morning and evening. I've even noticed changes in the way my tongue looks. But yes, I would expect the symptoms of a glutening to worsen if consumption continued.

    ARCHIVED Hidden Gluten

Some brands of peanuts are coated with all sorts of things, even for unflavored varieties. Many have MSG among other things, so always check the labels of course. I only get the ones which are just peanuts and salt, which I have only seen in the cardboard "tins". These are usually labeled as "cocktail peanuts", "party peanuts", etc. But peanut allergies are...
  22. It can certainly take longer than a week. Many find that cutting out dairy for awhile speeds recovery. Once you feel better, you can try adding it back, and see how it goes. Avoiding sugar and coffee might help too. I'm sure others will have some good pointers for you. I hope you feel better soon! Welcome to the board!
  23. I'm sure you'll get plenty of specific suggestions, so I'll just post the link to the safe and unsafe ingredient lists: https://www.celiac.com/categories/Safe-Glut...3B-Ingredients/ Hope the gluten-free diet brings all the health and vitality a person could ask for!
  24. Pineapple is one of my favorites to put in with coconut in various recipes But too much water content will form ice when frozen. I did one experiment with something in the fridge that resembled ice cream quite nicely, but frozen it was too solid due to water content. I'm inclined to think coconut cream would work better than the milk, or just the pure oil...
  25. Well, as for the expense, it's not more expensive unless you buy prepackaged gluten-free foods. Most things are naturally gluten-free - veggies, fruits, beans, meats, nuts, seeds, etc. Bread is going to be one of those things which you either make yourself, find a substitute, or stop eating. You might be surprised how good gluten-free breads, pizza crust...
