  1. Something tells me there are side effects, but they just don't know yet. Just like a Celiac can go undiagnosed for years, so can a side effect. Also, it doesn't mean one can eat gluten on any regular basis. I get the impression it's mainly for CC, like you might get from eating out. I won't be taking it. I also think it's just a "bandaid", and the real...
  2. Are you still eating dairy? If so, I'd suggest dropping it, as many on this board have found dairy also to be a problem, at least at first. Some have been able to add it back after the gut has had time to heal. Other foods might also be a problem, like soy for instance. As for fiber, I've read that insoluble fiber is what speeds up the passage of food...
  3. Are you taking any supplements? I was also eating enormous quantities of food for awhile, but after taking the supplements I mentioned in my previous post, this has subsided greatly. B12 is also known to be very important for healthy hair, nails, and skin.
  4. What I did was to avoid all sugars and yeasts, and take caprylic acid capsules. I also avoided all vinegars, mushrooms, and fruit. I got amazing results in just weeks. The suggestion of coconut oil is because it has caprylic acid. This particular fatty acid kills candida. Yes, you will need to avoid the items you've mentioned. I would suggest Stevia in...
  5. I saw one from NOW Foods which is Zinc Picolinate. They state gluten-free as well as dairy free, soy free, etc, etc on the bottle. This form is one of the better ones from what I've read.
  6. I don't suppose I'd be consuming either soy lecithin or whey if I had such sensitivities as yourself. I do know that protein shakes are easy to make though, so that's what I'd suggest. There are a number of decent protein sources you could use in a shake, such as peas, flax, chia, and I think I read hemp too, but not sure ATM. Incidentally, you can...
  7. Although I did not seek a doctor's advice, I believe I was having enough pain to be labeled with something like fibro, or worse. Thankfully though, I no longer have such pains. What worked for me is magnesium and B12. The transformation is nothing short of miraculous to me. I still can hardly believe the difference, and you can bet I wish I knew ahead...
  8. Echoing what shayesmom has said, an intolerance is for life - it really doesn't ever go away. Though this doesn't necessarily mean Celiac, it doesn't change how to address it, which is a gluten-free diet. And you need to know that children often have a certain period where symptoms seem to lessen or disappear, but this in no way means that there isn't damage...
  9. Yeasts do bother me too. I'm not sure it it's because of MSG or candida, but either way it doesn't matter in terms of diet. The yeast being called "nutritional" is not the same as bread yeast. I avoid that too. IMO, "nutritional yeast" is nothing more than a way for manufacturers to add Free Glutamic Acid (MSG) to a product without the legal requirement...
  10. First, for your symptoms, I'd highly recommend magnesium, and a sublingual methylcobalamin (B12). Other common recommendations are calcium, Vitamin D, B complex, iron, zinc, and probably some I'm forgetting ATM. Casein is the primary milk protein, and many here find they need to avoid it. You'll often find it in soy cheeses too. The best way to know if...
  11. Well, I'm not a big fan of pancakes, but I did try a recipe recently, just to see how they'd turn out. It was mostly buckwheat, and I think I added a little soy to it. My next attempt will likely be equal parts buckwheat, millet, and fava. For sugar cookies, since it's like half sugar as I recall (I don't eat sugar), I imagine millet by itself would...
  12. It is true that the cheaper Stevia products vary in quality and taste. I did a lot of research, tested a few brands and types, and settled on the pure powder from Stevita. All the other brands that I've found have an aftertaste, and seem to be made in China Agave is primarily fructose, which some folks obviously need to limit, such as when dealing with...
  13. Try Source Naturals, Methylcobalamin sublingual. Here are some sites that offer it: webvitamins.com vitacost.com vitanetonline.com
  14. If you can have nuts, you can make your own nut milk with a blender or food processor. I suppose rice milk can be made in a similar fashion. For a sweetener, try Stevia, which is natural, zero carbs and zero sugars. Just be sure to get the pure powder.
  15. First, be grateful that you caught it as soon as you have. Many do not. For the numbness and such, I'd recommend magnesium, and also a sublingual methylcobalamin (B12) supplement. There are likely other deficiencies, such as iron, calcium, Vitamin D, zinc, etc. B vitamins in general seem to be helpful to many on this board too. Do be sure to check for...
  16. I never use rice flours at all. Not since I tried millet, sorghum, buckwheat, etc. No graininess, better taste, better texture. The sweet rice flours do differ from brand to brand. Not all work the same. That is, some tend to make things more gummy than others. It would probably work best in place of other very starchy ones like tapioca, potato starch...
  17. I actually prefer those plain ones, like puffed rice, and puffed corn - which are usually in health stores. Not much texture to them, so I'd think babies wouldn't have difficulty digesting them. One thing I tried with the corn was to put a couple teaspoons of water in a bowl, add some pure Stevia powder, and toss the cereal around in the bowl so it would...
  18. Wow, poor child! My first thought is that maybe the waffles got stuck in the intestines. That would make me drink a lot, and would also explain the fewer bathroom visits. I'm guessing the party was all gluten-free, since you didn't mention any possible second glutening? I do know magnesium draws water into the intestines, but what I don't know is if...
  19. It seems to me that armpits are a tender area of skin, and prone to infections, rashes, irritation, etc. Heck, I already know I react to even the smell of scented soaps, detergents, dryer sheets, perfumes, dyes...the list goes on and on. I saw a demonstration once where a guy put his finger in a cup of liquid, and in seconds he had a strong garlic taste...
  20. Oh, look at this wonderful new thread: Open Original Shared Link See what a difference the gluten-free diet can make?! Take courage! You're not alone!
  21. Good for you jennyofmany!! I'm so glad to know that you are on the right path. That is, taking decisive steps to get to the root of the issue. I'm confident you've already found the answer too!
  22. Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. Maybe no Celiacs signed up to any such studies. And why would they? So I think the study is flawed in the extreme. There are a lot of members here that cannot eat nightshades either, myself included.
  23. As I hear more about the horrors of meds including SSRIs, I'm ever more convinced that they not only aren't any good, but they do cause more behavioral problems, including bipolar. I know it can be hard for some to walk away from the medical doctors, as they are "supposed" to be knowledgeable. But again, the more I read and hear, the more I know it isn't...
  24. I'm going to guess that the tapioca was processed in a facility which also processes wheat. Though many flours we typically use are milled in facilities where wheat is milled, there are a number of people whom are sensitive to very low levels and thus need to only use products which are processed in gluten-free facilities. If that's you, then don't drink...

    ARCHIVED Advice Needed

So sorry you've had such a difficult time. I too am biased against doctors, so I can't recommend any. What I did was to use common sense, this board, and the many Internet resources to figure things out for myself. If you can relate to the term "brain fog", or experience muscle pain, soreness, fatigue, sleeplessness (or other symtpoms too numerous to mention...
