ARCHIVED Store Bought Gluten-free Bread Recommendations?
traveljunkie replied to chestnut's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Our favorite is Glutino flax seed bread. I love it toasted, but my son makes sandwiches with it. I'm not a big bread eater, but this is one of my breakfast staples. Charlene -
ARCHIVED Quick Vegetarian Recipe
traveljunkie replied to pinkpei77's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi Pink, How did your vegan cake turn out? I have yet to bake a gluten-free cake. I've bought some great vegan/gluten-free pies at a bakery here in Calgary. My latest veg/gluten-free dish is Thai kitchen noodles with lots of veggies. The whole family loves it. Charlene -
ARCHIVED Lab Results
traveljunkie replied to DragonQueen's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hello, I'm dairy free. as well. I find that harder than being gluten-free. I was diagnosed by Enterolab to be dietary gluten intolerant, with no malabsorption. I find I react quicker, and with more intensity when I consume dairy. It really sucks! Being a vegetarian, I never really drank milk, just ate cheese. I can't enjoy that anymore. I'm very limited... -

ARCHIVED Ever Pass Out From Eating Wheat?
traveljunkie replied to bigapplekathleen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The first time that happened to me, I was driving. I was so scared, and drove to my drs office. They put me on a heart monitor. Duh...I knew they were way off because I had just eaten lunch and knew I was having some kind of reaction. That was almost 3 years ago. I had about 6 more episodes of nearly passing out before I learned what was happening. I haven... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Take Digestive Enzymes?
traveljunkie replied to traveljunkie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Jessica, Some people don't have enough enzymes to digest fats, carbohydrates, protein, etc. It can be caused by illness, pancreatic problems or aging. Symptoms are often food allergies/intolerances, because the body doesn't have the ability to properly digest food. So, the body attacks the undigested food particles thinking it's a foreign substance... -

MOve to Florida! lol Charlene -
Hi Stephanie, Sorry to hear you are feeling crappy. I think drs over prescibe antibiotics, and they end up making the situation worse. Make sure you are taking probiotics(acidolphilus) to replenish the good bacteria killed by the antibiotics. Continue taking your vitamins and stay away from processed food, as well as dairy. I've gone through periods...

traveljunkie replied to jessika393's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I know what you mean, Carrie. I'm sure you've seen pics on the news, how some Calgarian's wear shorts in the middle of Feb. They're crazy. I just bought a truck with heated seats! Ahhh...bring on winter. Two Christmas's ago we went to Mexico, and I still was cold at night. I'll pack differently next time! Charlene -
Lucky you! You have reason to celebrate. Finding a great doctor who listens and understands is worthy a celebration!! Charlene

ARCHIVED Is Anyone Else Tired Of Being Freezing?
traveljunkie replied to jessika393's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
HI, I'm freezing right now as I write this! My hands and feet are always frozen. At night, I make my hubby come to bed when I go, so he can be my heater! I live in Canada and I can't wait for the day we move somewhere warm. I often take hot baths or go in the hot tub to warm up. I hope this goes away soon!! Freezing in Canada Charlene -
I've recently started taking enzyme supplements after researching low stomach acid, and it's role in food allergies/intolerances. I'm not taking them so I can eat gluten products...just to be clear on that. However, I do think they may be helpful with other food intolerances. Any recommendations, or experience you want to share? Thanks everyone! ...

ARCHIVED Help!
traveljunkie replied to danikali's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Mary, I was about to post a question about enzymes. What brand are you on? I notice when ever I take enzymes, I have less reactions. I'm intolerant to a lot of food and have been doing research on enzyme and low stomach acids. I have tried different brands of enzymes, some are to strong and hurt me. Thanks, Charlene -

Hi Ken, I can relate to your frustration. I'm not looking forward to my family xmas dinner. Not only do I have to worry about gluten, but I've also become a vegetarian this summer. I would like to skip the whole thing. The consant questions really get on my nerves. It's just food, but they act like they would die if they never ate wheat or meat. They... -

ARCHIVED How Did You Acquire Celiac?
traveljunkie replied to tasha's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Tasha, I also got dizzy after excercise. My most recent problems began about 5 years ago. I would break out in hives, achy joints, retain water and terrible moodiness. Then I started getting dizzy/lightheaded after a workout or eating certain foods. The drs tested me for the usual, heart, thyroid, low iron. I did have anemia and took iron suplements... -

traveljunkie replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi, I have tried the glutino pretzals and had no problems with them. But, I do react to some products with corn ingredients, as well as sesame. It's really hit and miss. I would stop eating them for a while and then try them again to see what happens. Good luck. Charlene -
ARCHIVED How Fast Do You React To Accidental Ingestion?
traveljunkie replied to carrielynn's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Hi Carrielynn, I agree with nini. Everyone can react different at different times. My teen usually gets sick the next day after ingesting gluten. Main symptoms diarrhea, and...
