  1. Hi hi, I guess the only way to find this out is to test it but I'm curious as to whether sensitivity (which I understand varies for different people) has a genetic component as well as the actual disease. My grandmother gets sick from glucose syrup and other things Australia lawfully deems safe and I haven't tried it yet as not willing to get sick again yet...
  2. Ugh! Woah! Sorry to hear this. So glad this thread is here to make things far less confusing because I would never have realised this could happen and it definitely does. Bother. Square one. But square 2 eventually comes and there is hope yet .
  3. With me it's about 3 days but my Grandma has always found it takes her 8 days. To the hour. Ha. All different .
  4. Mmm. Thanks. Surely they at least wash it down or something... But I might steer clear from now on. Seem to get insomnia from dark chocolate, too. Not coffee. But even 2 squares of dark chocolate rather than 1 and sleep goes out the window. Useful when it needs to! But a bummer other times because it's sooooo tasty .
  5. Oh wow. That sounds really difficult! But at the same time fairly correlated with histamine intolerance (which oddly enough IF recognised a lot in Australia). Happily it does seem to fade over time for a lot of people and as you say, it's a glass filling up thing so you don't actually have to rule anything out (but have the ominous duty of deciding when the...
  6. Nothin' to do at 3am but sit on the internet or curl on the bathroom floor, really. So here I am. Taking a break from crying and sweating after glutened by, I suspect, what got me last week too. Threw it all out etc. but am confused as to why I ate it for 3 days last week and felt like I was hit by a train, slept all day and had mild bloating and constipation...
  7. Hi Evergreen! Did you find out if you had Celiac? Did your symptoms remain at bay on gluten-free? My mum's experience is a lot like yours (and my Grandma is diagnosed) and I'd really like her to get tested but she's (a doctor! who is) from the generation where "I don't have stomach symptoms" means it isn't worth bothering... x
  8. So far am totally confused because I've eaten yoghurt the last two days and nothing happened. Cheese seems to be the bad one for migraines so I"ll try that next. No hot flushes for ages either despite mushrooms, dark chocolate and other tasty things. Mysterious but I'm not complaining (or assuming it'll stay like that). One thing I'm learning through all...
  9. I eat Lindt dark and have never had a CC reaction. Is it extreme to avoid things like that? I never really think about production lines etc. When companies say that, the odds are low and they're just covering their a$$es right? Or should I really be only consuming things made in gluten free environments?!
  10. Mmm, curious about this as well. Should people who've gone gluten-free in solidarity and now reintroduced it to discover they have 'symptoms' listen to them or persist? I've heard reports on both fronts. I have a few friends who are 'paleo' and ditched it after about a year, got strange bowl symptoms but kept eating grains and the symptoms went away. That...
  11. YES! Exactly! This is what happens to me! Exactly. I didn't believe it at first but it even happens when I consume dairy unknowingly. The difference is huge when I cut it out. I have no idea why though and someone suggested the thyroid thing to me when I was talking about it a week ago or so. I figured it wasn't that though because if it's a boost in iodine...
  12. True! Simple combos like that taste amazing and never hurt. Sweet potato is incredible... Glad to hear avoiding soy is working for you. Although actually as I read 'who needs the hormone effect?' I realised I think maybe for the moment I do! My skin is clearer and my cycles continue when I drink soy. Everytime I stop they stop... Which probably isn't good...
  13. Oh Colleen, What a message! Thankyou! THANKYOU. Another really helpful, heartening response. Even just hearing from people who DO understand perfectly how complicated it is when nourishment feels like the enemy and too hard. I'm sorry to hear about your cancer experience. That would have been so...overwhelming. You are amazing and so is life. I'm glad we...
  14. True. Mixing it up is an option I always forget about. My mind is a little too black or white about food these days. Thanks for the advice and reminder! And oh! Short grain brown! That's a kinda compromise, in fact. We have long grain brown or sushi (sticky short) white. Time to acquire a third option ! Do have to note though that the last few nights of...
  15. Hello! Just curious who cooks brown and who cooks white rice? I was raised on brown so feel it has more 'flavour' but my partner eats sushi rice with everything and now I've gotten into it I don't mind it at all. Nifty texture! There's a lot going 'round about how grains are bad and I disagree but am shifting over to the side of their nutrients perhaps being...
  16. Instead of depression I get angry and restless. About an hour after eating it. It took me a long time to realise and somebody else pointed it out initially. It was also a bit confusing because I felt so euphoric to have another food back in the menu that I feel super optimistic somewhere in amongst the anger. Which makes for a mega-moodswing... I get chestpain...

  18. Fantastic thread. Thankyou for sharing your experience and thankyou to the repliers whose situations have improved! I can safely I can now eat a lot more (foods and volume both! hehe) but I forget that when I'm overwhelmed by what I still can't eat. Hopefully our menus will expand further in time and while we wait, we get creative with the good stuff we...
  19. Oh gosh. Oh. Thankyou so much for responding. I really deeply appreciate your words and somehow they actually turned my mood completely around. I instantly felt less trapped. I'm sorry to hear how much you've had to deal with thus far but the fact that you ARE dealing with it suggests a mighty strength and that really inspires me. It also sounds like even...
  20. Hi all, So... I've been posting a bit this week because I finally found this forum and it's really helpful! Apologies for slamming it with all my words but... thankyou for existing. I don't know what kind of reply I'm hoping for but I just need to rant. Or something. This post probably echoes countless posts from others but I'm really concerned about my...
  21. It doesn't bioaccumulate? So does that mean that bits each day are ok and it won't add up over time? This one little post may have saved my sanity. Thankyou so much...
  22. Copied and pasted from another thread but I think it's more relevant here: "Ah. Yay. Someone else has asked this! I feel like as soon as I get comfortable with this diet and find my feet someone links me to stuff like this (was shown all the arsenic stuff yesterday and I remained surprisingly calm... until now, when out of curiousity I read the labels of...
  23. Ah. Yay. Someone else has asked this! I feel like as soon as I get comfortable with this diet and find my feet someone links me to stuff like this (was shown all the arsenic stuff yesterday and I remained surprisingly calm... until now, when out of curiousity I read the labels of things I no longer check because I know they're gluten-free and they ALL contain...
  24. Ah! Another link about histamine! Which I think is implicated in my worsening of a few symptoms since gluten free (eating more of them!) and bettering of others. Is this common after going on the diet...? I really don't think I can bear to watch what I eat even more closely and I love all those foods...
  25. Hi! I'm wondering how you went with these tests?! Pretty confused as to why my symptoms have gotten better but new ones (definitely classic histamine intolerance and related to those foods) are appearing NOW. I thought it might be that I feel good so I notice feeling bad more but I definitely didn't have all this happening before.
